Mobile World Congress 2012

Games, it seems HTC is teaming up with whoever to get an edge, Beats audio and now Playstation. Its not really about the Playstation games but the Android Market will probably devour Playstation too. Creative people will make the top games, similar to how Youtube works, the best get the most views. Thats what I like about Youtube, Google, and Android, theres true democracy going on, the free web at its greatest. When I meant about the games consoles I mean they can't even be called games consoles anymore, just look at the specs. "Home budget entertainment system" seems argueable.

I think HTC doesn't have much of a choice, and nor does Apple really. (*Cough* manufacturing in Foxconn) Because they aren't mass producers of technology, so they're limited to only what they are supplied with. Samsung Exynos anybody? Creating every device out there for even the most picky. Samsung really has become the gorilla in the corner, it will be interesting to see Samsung and Apple through 2012. Or maybe I'm just being Samsung biased.

What did you mean a modifield version of the Amaze camera, software or the hardware of the camera? I wouldn't say its true because the newly released Sony Ericsson Ion in CES has a top notch camera

Sorry, talk about me clipping sentences!

The HTC Amaze came out with a fundamental improvement in image processing software, marking an actual change in this area, HTC's first in some time. (It also has feature upgrades.) As my phone takes 3D pictures, I was fortunate that a dev at XDA modified the Amaze camera software so that I could use it.

I recently heard that the iP4s uses the Sony camera sensor. I don't pay much attention to the iPhone (not knocking it or being a fanboy, it just isn't on my radar much). I have friends with the iP4s, not the Sony, so comparing to that (or the SGS2 camera) many think those are top notch, as well. I think that all cell phone cameras are lacking, though. With the right lighting, settings and software, you can get great snaps out of about any phone camera, but I would like a wider performance envelope in this area.

That said, maybe the Sony would surprise me, and I ought not generalize without being sure, so I will make time to check those out.

I'll give props to the Exynos, sure, but a lot of the mindshare for it has been driven by the press. The OMAP in the Galaxy Nexus is very worthy, for example. It matches cpu performance and while its GPU doesn’t stack up with 3d benchmarks, it is optimized for 2d media performance and is no slouch. People rag on the Qualcomm S3, but if you clock one at 1.5 GHz, it matches or exceeds the Exynos at 1.2 GHz cpu benchmarks and doesn’t totally suck in graphics. (And runs asynchronously, unlike the A9.) I'll provide pictures on request, but the AnTuTu scores show those 3 jockeying for equivalent overall performance. And Samsung uses more than just the Exynos in the SGS2 variants and I think that they are all worthy of still being called an SGS2.

For 3D graphics horsepower important to the most demanding gamers, the processor in the iP4s is eating everyone's lunch by a wide margin.

I don't know what to make of gaming performance. I'm not a gamer and never met one who was satisfied with their system's performance. Those cats push the edge, while cats like me still think the Wii and Angry Birds is really something.

I don't begrudge gamers what they need and like, but I remain concerned about an industry press that has everyone looking at benchmarks that puts one or two benchmarks at the forefront of a horse race. That doesn't concern many consumers as much as they are being told that it should.

Example, the new HTC features an exciting quad core setup with A9 cores, but what will marketing do with dual A15 cores against that?

Same way, what is more exciting on that HTC with the Tegra 3? The quad cores, the graphics cores - or will it be the ultra low power 5th core, stretching out battery life? How will all that be optimized?

I guess I have a lot of questions, so I am really looking forward to seeing what this year brings! :)

I always get really excited about these events! This is the one I look forward to the most.

Quad core, 16+ MP cameras, more cloud, Android watches, etc... Can't wait :D:cool::D

Lol don't worry about it, I mean that mobile technology has run circles around games consoles.

Yeah the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S has the same camera sensor as the iPhone 4S but I have to agree that the camera on the iPhone is better, even with without the advertised so called Exmor technology. I bet Sony Ericsson was going for the zero shutter lag option in the Arc S, I've tried the phone instore because it was only

Yeah, Early, that phone kind of looks like crap. Aspect ratio is fine for iPads, but I don't think for phones.
Also, I know MWG has only happened for a few years, but is there any chance it would be somewhere else next year (it's always been in Barcelona)? I would love to go, but "unfortunately" Barcelona is one of like 2 places I've been in Europe and I wouldn't want to really waste a trip to go to the same place.

Nope, Barca is its 'home', just like CES is always in Vegas.

I wouldn't want to really waste a trip to go to the same place.

It's not a city you're likely to tire of. I've visited three times myself and still haven't seen everything I wanted to. Plus it's just a great city to just hang out in and chill, especially with an ice-cold Estrella Damm in a frosted glass! :D
