What does "deodexed" mean?

So you and others that have successfully installed the backlighting mod are probably using JT's super clean ROM, right?

Would really appreciate a non-deodexed version!

First linked thread has as good an explanation as you'll find. Yes everyone successfully running the BL mod is deodexed. wasp did say he was making a non-deodexed one

I am SOOO a member of the Borked Brigade... on every device I've owned in fact. I have even borked Mainframes back in the day, so I know from borking!!!

I am on stock kernel with voodoo 0.2... thats the issue. I may decide to swap back to the droid for a day so I can hack the sh*t out of this with a deodexed rom... the hour I was without a working phone today was the longest hour since I bricked my touch Pro 2 back in May!!!

I've borked a few Mainframes in my time usually the production system in the middle of the day, yeah I don't fool around. This is also a good way to wake up the boss. He'll probably be really cranky so have some donuts and coffee on hand.

well this is different than bln. bln (built into a kernel) is what will flash with email/text/missed calls. this just extends the time that the keys stay lit up (from 3 secs to 10,15,32) as many people dont like them turning off so early.

if you want to remove:

you could flash one of jts roms as it ll replace the services.jar (which is where the ekbl is modded)

or you d/l this services.jar (stock services.jar) and push it with terminal em or adb

-first put it on the root of your sdcard (NOT in a folder)

su
mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
cp /sdcard/services.jar /system/framework
mount -o ro,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
reboot

if using a terminal emulator it may reboot after the cp line, which is fine.

Oh, and one thing I noticed.

I tried to flash this on the stock ROM (rooted) and it wouldn't work (duh, it's meant for deodexed ROMs). I get that, but now I think my Voodoo lagfix was somehow affected, because I am getting crazy lag.

It wasn't this laggy before.

Any ideas?

voodoo slows down after a few days, even if you reboot your phone. (this among the 500 reasons a lot of people wont use voodoo ). i find that if you boot into clockwork->advanced->wipe davlik cache, it clears your system of any lag. i do this (when on voodoo that is) every day or two.

some people say thats ridiculous you would have to do that to keep a kernel running smoothly, but its the price you pay to run ext4

basically the button 4 soft keys buttons (home, menu etc) only stay lit up for 3 seconds, which bothers many of us when doing things.

wasupwithuman modified part of the services.jar file so that they will stay lit up longer...either 10,15, or the max possible of 32.

this is different than the backlight notifications mod built into kernels that uses the soft keys as lcd notifications.

I suppose I continue to remain in the minority here then in terms of not needing or wanting these extra lights. I personally dont much care for the BLN nor this extended soft key. Just seems like an extra battery drain based on my habits, patterns and usage.
