Modaco 2.2 anyone?

I'm waiting for whatever Flipz is up to right now..

I'm sure he's working on something though...

I bet it's going to be a version of Fresh Rom with kernel and other add-ons ...

I'm going to wait though......

All i read was blah blah blah i love FRESH hehe jk. I hated flipper when he came down on Modaco about a rom that he was just letting us know premium users that there is a beta and he wanted us to try it out before its release. He was crying oh your all about money blah blah blah and this is about open source blah but it was beta not official. Less then a week he released the rom and now 2.2. It was for beta tester and like any beta has lots of problems and i found myself hitting my head against a wall. But after all that he released it for FREE duh and since then i hate filpper and to be honest he should respect Modaco since he took his work in the beginning and wouldn't be surprise if he looked into his kernel. Modaco made flipper

Hmm, guess I never saw that. Oh well. I use them both, at least parts of both lol. Since I can't afford to pay for Modaco's kitchen, I use Flipz' until Modaco releases his final version. Chances are, I'll use whatever ROM is newest, or whichever ROM I happen to have flashed to my phone at the time lol. They don't seem to be a heck of a lot different to me once I flash some themes and make them look the way I want them to, except that it took more work to get rid of the Sprint apps on Modaco's, as well as a few other apps that were added into the core.

Flipz is working on his kitchen big time, I believe that's his biggest project at the moment. Sounds like it'll be out in the next couple of days, and perhaps something else as well.

i installed 2.2 last night.. with compcache..

I had Modaco 1.3 before... and to be honest..
it feels a little slower....
bringing up the keyboard..
swiping ....

so... i just finished .. flashing 2.2 without compcache...
I hope it faster..

I am worried about the battery...
I had 90% charge at 2 am... went to bed .. it died in middle of night. My phone is my alarm clock!!!! late for work !!!

sounds like one of your apps is keeping it awake. Or perhaps compcache does it? Not sure.

I'm not using compcache, with Modaco 2.2, and I'm down to 30% awake time, with about 8 hours of awake time out of 26.5 hours of uptime. 11 hours ago, I had about 7 and a half hours of awake time on 15.5 hours of uptime (47%). My phone has pretty much been unused during the past 11 hours, except for a couple texts, one MMS, half dozen received emails, and a couple webpages. That probably took about a half hour of the awake time, so Modaco 2.2 certainly isn't keeping the phone from sleeping. By morning, I'll have about 12 hours of awake time, due to me plugging it into my computer to charge.

I don't think 2.2 is keeping your phone awake, something else is. Especially if it died in the middle of the night while sitting idle.

You played with it for an hour. Well that test is all i needed to come to a conclusion thanks for your testing. Did you test it with compcache or all the sprint bloatware removed. The only thing you tested was your a fresh fan i understand he makes nice cute roms. If this was maybe a three day test i would understand but one hour is not a test and nobody here can come with a conclusion. I still think Modaco rom is better then Fresh's but that again its a matter of preference and i really don't like flipper.

So your saying i'd need three days to tell whether or not a scratch reload with Modaco 2.2 to judge speed compared to my first rooted rom that i've loaded 4 versions of fresh over and had all my apps and widgets is what would be necessary? Its a phone, its simple. You can tell pretty quickly when overall performance has changed.

I'd hate to see you attempting to test drive a car. "You guys mind if I keep it a week just to make sure its faster than my moped?"

I'm not a ******. this is not a jury trial. We are not looking for credible witnesses.

An hour straight of messing with the phone between screens, downloading apps, launching them, rebooting and yes I did remove the sprint bloat before my hour of playing with it.

It is no faster and i'm not a fanboi.

I don't think compcache is that good. If the processor was really fast, then compcache would make things faster. But the Hero is just too slow. To see how slow the compcache swap is, make a large swap (eg 100MB) and turn up swappiness (100), and see what happens.

However, while I was playing with this kernel and compcache, I came across an xda post about how to configure the Android internal taskkiller. I think this helps much more with responsiveness and speed. Of course this doesn't help if you're goal is to run more things in the background.

My experience with it:

OK here are my conclusions of what I did. I flashed Modaco over Fresh. My uptime shot up to 90%, then 80% then 70...After 3 days I could not get it under 70%.

Before rooting, my uptime was 15-20%.

I restored back to the original Sprint bloatware ROM.

Reflashed to Modaco. Manually removed Sprint Bloatware
APPS that are SAFE to remove - xda-developers

Uptime after 5 hours? 9%.

I will keep testing it over the weekend and report any changes.

My awake time's to 47% again, about 18 hours. But that's simply because I had it plugged into my computer for 10 hours (I got LOTS of sleep last night, minus the hour to drive my dad to work and come back home lol)

First post here, excited about joining this forum!

So I just downloaded Modaco 2.2. I RUU'd back to Sprint stock and just rooted my phone. Getting ready to update to Modaco. I've previously used Fresh 1.1. Curious to see for myself how this ROM is.

Cool! Manual way copy/paste seems to be the easiest for me.

Good luck and keep us posted....my only curiosity is the Uptime.

I noticed my phone not sleeping while on the charger now, which is causing the high % awake time. This on the AC charger also. Example:

Reboot my phone a couple of hours before bed and used it minimally. Awake time at 11%. Plugged up and went to sleep. Checked phone when I woke up and awake time was up to 78%. It seems to stay awake regardless of being plugged into to pc or AC.

interesting. I'll find that out for myself for sure tomorrow morning, since I'll have my phone plugged into the wall tonight.

On a side note, what difference does it make if it's not sleeping while charging? It's not killing your battery, it's charging lol

The up time seems to have something to do with the new Kernel in Modaco's rom... I flashed his rom and kept Fresh 1.1, and I am having the same uptime issue when charging my phone.

Weird, the AC adapter never makes a difference for me but I'll check now that I the new kernel loaded to see if that changes.

Oh boy, does it ever! :D

'Cuse me butting in here but I thought that some of you might be interested to know that Paul's already implemented an option to reconfigure the LowMemoryKiller minfree parameters in his 3.2beta kitchen. It's therefore a safe bet that it will migrate into future release versions. :)

The beta is also using Teknologist's latest 1.9.2 kernel, and between this and Paul's ROM optimisation the general feeling is that compcache is no longer an advantage on the GSM build. It (and the minfree parameters) are certainly worth experimenting with, believe me.

Hope this is of some interest.

Uptime 27:33:11

Awake time 2:57:34 11%

Modaco 2.2. No problems here just running what i always do, just did not use it alot today cus of work, but about two hours of music and some gtalk and text. My battery life since i unplugged it this morning at 5:30am till now drum roll please.......77% POW.

Last night I threw on AOSP 1.6 ..I liked it, it's amazingly fast as well..too bad there's no market, gmail, etc....

so after i was done playing with it, i stayed up a little late and threw on Modaco 2.2...

I'm pretty amazed with the speed from the previous version though...

I hear you on the charging bit. I just wanted to throw out an observation for those that might notice and be concerned about their awake time.

Didn't I read somewhere the new 2.1 kernel HTC released that Modaco is using does not contain the awake time fix? If that's the case that explains everyone's high awake time issues...
