Root Modify stock 4.67 rom

I was wondering if it was possible to add the power/home screen shot and the hacked hot spot to the stock rooted rom. If I understand it I think I need the deodexed rom to do it. I found the mods at xda but I think you have to do this by modifying the rom and not just a way to flash the mods. I know there are stock tweaked roms with this already done but Im happy with the stock rom and kernel that I have removed what I want removed. Im getting great battery and performance and use it as my daily. The only thing I miss from the other roms are these 2 mods.
Thanks for any input you may have on this.

Its VERY easy to add those modifications to ROMS. However, you are correct in that you modify the ROM before you flash it to your phone.

There's probably a way to do it after the fact, but I'm unfamiliar with how.

Thanks RX thats what I thought So I need to download the deodexed rom and unzip it then modify the apks or scripts or whatever then rezip it. This sound right?

Yeppers. It just consists of downloading the tweak and replacing the files in the ROM with the one from the tweak

Odex would probably work as well. Don't quote me on that though

Ok this sounds fun!!:D I believe one of the tweaks I believe the screen shot from grosumewolf said to use notepad ++ so Time to check this out. And Many nandroids on hand just in case;)

After modding the stock deodexed rom can I just rezip it with 7zip? also is there any special settings in 7zip that i need to change?
And one last question is there a link anyone has on how to change the rom from deodexed to odexed.

Thanks

You may be able to re-zip it back up, but I always use dsixda's kitchen to build my ROMS.

ROMS cannot easily be changed back and forth between the two. That's way above the average users abilities and I don't believe there is a script for it to do it for you. I know in the kitchen there's an option to convert one way, but not back the other way.

Lets forget the deodexed to odexed thing for now.LOL
Basicly all i did so far is add the screen shot mod by adding the comand lines to the build prop and putting the additonal apks in the proper folders. I reziped it with 7zip with the default settings but the ziped file is about 15meg smaller than the original zip folder. That concerns me that the compression is set wrong.

Thanks for the dsixda I just downloaded it and will check that out.

This is the Stock Optimized Rom with some of the Tweaks added to it.
It does have the Hacked Hot spot and CRT animations. I'm not sure about the Screenshot though.

[ROM] 4.67 - Rooted - Optimized - Sharing means caring - xda-developers

It might be easier to add the screenshot to this since it's half way there?

But if you are trying to learn how to do it I totally understand that. I have no clue myself.
Or are you already working from this?

Thanks Nater I will try that one. It looks to only be missing the screen shot ( I dont see it in the build prop) Im going to try the program that RXPERT posted up to add the screen shot.
But yea im trying to figure some of this out Kinda scary to think of flashing something I made to my evo.

I did the same thing a few months back. Your basically just downloding the mods other devs have made and replacing the system files with their modified ones.

After that you build the ROM using the kitchen and you're all set.

Hey Ex, couldn't you just use 7zip to pull out the folder, make the mods to said folder, then drag and drop back in, then update the archive?

That's all I do when I mess with simple theme mods, works great. Don't know if it'll works on the scale you're talking about tho.

I believe you can g. For small mods using 7zip is fine but if your changing a few different things then it will be faster and easier to use the kitchen

Well here is what i did. I unziped the rom with 7zip then i opened the system/build.prop in notepad++ and added the lines acording to the info on xda for the screen shot. Then I added 2 files as followes
MySketcher.apk (located in /system/app) | libScreenshotUtil.so (located in /system/lib)
Then I reziped it with 7zip This resulted in the final ziped rom being smaller than the original rom so i think it either ziped already ziped files or the compression is set wrong. Not sure

so I got Kitchen working and was wondering if you add stuff in the working folder like the screen shot mod then have kitchen rezip the rom?

but does it work? did it flash for you?

Lol worst scenario is it doesn't work and you restore a nandroid
Just wanted to again say thank you to all that got me this far. The 1st mod i did with the kitchen and the screen shot works. Im going to try the 7zip one and see if that works and i will report back but again thanks argedion, Granite1,Rxpert83 and NaterTots for all your help.

UPDATE with a couple questions
I now have Fedora linux dual booting with windows and have kitchen and most other things working in linux including my wireless printer (That was a learning experiance) anyway before i start modifying my first rom I want to figure a few things out with linux if some one cann answer these i would greatly apreciate it.
1 is there a linux video player that will play 3gp
2 is there a disconect in linux before removing my phone in disk drive or do i just unmount or do nothing and just unplug it.
Thanks
Mike

#2.... just unmount it via your phones screen.
As for #1.... I am a complete Linux n00b.

I figured out how to get the kitchen up and running and that was the extent of my playing around. From then on out it was ROMS.
