Help Moment 2.1 Update Thread

I have the new 2.1 upgrade and I love it! The only one thing im having a problem with is I cant turn my screen off, I have to wait for it to time out! Is there a fix?

I'm confused ...what version do i have, are the Baseband version and the Build number suppose to end in DE03?.. this is what my phone says..

I also installed the noclock zip for DD10 ..would that of changed the build#?

Maybe. My build version is Eclair.DE03.

I use an app called "Spare Parts" that you can use to enable "Go To Sleep" as the end button behavior.

For some reason this feature was foolishly removed from 2.1

I just updated my Moment but I don't have any more homescreens or the active wallpaper. Don't know what else. Is this a bad install or did Samsung/Sprint rip us off?

The latter. They removed a few features of Android 2.1, most notably Live Wallpapers and the 3d Gallery. But just poke around this forum for a few minutes and you'll find instructions to restore Live Wallpapers. I'll warn you, though, you get bored with them after about a day and go back to something normal to conserve battery.

I had the same issue with Google logging me off. It acquires my location and loggs me off. You have to log on to Google.com and quickly go to settings before it acquires the location. Turn off auto location. Then go back into google by sliding your phone open and search for something. Then press the local button and it will ask you to agree with letting it share your location. That is what fixed mine. Good luck.

I have tried all of the Home Replacements with our phone and settled on Tag Home. It is awesome and flys on our phone. No live wallpaper, but who cares. You can have up to 9 screens, but don't need them if you set up correctly. You also get 4 permanent buttons on the bottom you can put anything you want into.

One last thing. I found Zee Contacts ($1.99) that is the best money I have spent. You open it and it gives you 30 speed dials to use for anythign including bookmarks, direct dials, texts and best of all GROUP e mailing and texting. It will take you into k9 or the standard mail apps and into the standard text app.

Is it just me or is the battery life getting better and better every day? I noticed yesterday that when I went to plug the phone into the charger for the night I still had over 50% battery left. Today it has been off the charger for 7 hours and just went from indicating full charge.

Mine for som reason has gotten extremely worse :o

Since this seems like the best place to ask:

Prior to applying the 2.1 update the other day, I was using Missed Reminder to notify me of missed calls/SMS/MMS etc. but it won't run on 2.0+.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a decent replacement? I tried MissedCall but wasn't really impressed with it.

EDIT: Ended up going with Easy Reminder, though I liked Missed Reminder better.

Anyone uneasy about installing the update:
(This will sound insultingly simple, but it's true. There are no intuitive shortcuts to the process.)

Read the Sprint pdf Instructions carefully. Keep the pdf on your comp screen while you go through the steps. If you follow their instructions carefully, the update will go smoothly 1st time.

......."can anyone help me upgrade my phone step by step? im new to this android phone and i'm completely lost. thanks"

Go to this link:
Sprint Software Downloads - Smartphones - Samsung Moment with Google

click "More details"

Open and read each of the first two pdfs at the bottom of the box.

Follow the instructions for removing your present Samsung Mobile driver files on your computer.

*important: Read thru the Samsung Moment Update Instructions pdf completely, before starting the process.

Set the pdf instructions to one side of your computer screen, while you follow the instructions. The process will give clear instructions as you go, but having the pdf as well is good policy.

The process is clear and I had no problems. But, there is no casual (ie, sloppy/fast) way to do it. Read thru and then follow step by step.

(I know, it's all pretty 'Duh!', but we Americans are an impatient bunch of instruction non-readers.)

can anyone help me upgrade my phone step by step? im new to this android phone and i'm completely lost. thanks

step 1 go to the market
install " mybackup "
it's only good for 30 days as a trial, so be quick about this
backup your applications to the website, backup all other settings to your sd card

step 2 go to sprint.com
Sprint Software Downloads - Smartphones - Samsung Moment with Google
click " more details "
there is the pdf file instructions, and the download file
as well as the correct usb drivers

you will be removing your sd card
and removing the battery and reinstalling twice, during the procedure, yes twice, dunno why it's necessary, but do it anyway

step 3
reinstall your sd card and turn the phone back on
reinstall " mybackup " on the new software
and backup your files from both the website and from the sd card

and you got the newest stuff

i cannot post a screenshot tonight
will try again tomorrow

just follow directions. but make sure you phone is fully charged before updating it.

btw....has anybody else notice that the phone no longer vibrates, when using the touch keyboard. well at least on mine, and my brothers phone.

So I thought it has been out for 10 days, I will go for it. I followed the steps one by one with them printed out and everything is fine and it starts to update, says 5 secs elapsed time 0% complete and never does anything else. Tech support says it fried my phone and they have to send me another.

Is there anything Sprint does right, ever?

Okay so I'm reading through peoples post, and now I'm skeptical.
My moment works fine with my 1.5, I want the update but idk if I should get it. Is it worth it right now? Cuz im seeing more complaints then compliments lol

2.1 is a step up from 1.5. When I had 1.5 I barely made it through half the day without a recharge being needed and that was with me doing just about nothing on my phone. Now I only have to plug it in at night, and some times in the late afternoon.

I updated over the weekend and love it. Battery life is improved for me (although I didn't really have a problem with it before). Install went smooth following instructions on Sprint web site and haven't had a problem since. I think it's worth it. :D

Searched this long thread a bit and didn't see anybody else with this issue. Apologies if this was posted earlier.

90% of the 2.1 update seems to be Just Better, I'm having problems with the slide-out keyboard. When typing into the browser address bar, typing a few letters and then 'a' will cause it to do a select-all on the address string (typing 'a' as the first letter is fine). Typing a few letters and then 'c' will either do nothing or output a random string of characters.

This seems to only affect the browser address bar. Text input on other forms (in or out of the browser) is fine.

For anyone debating upgrading to the official here are some things to remember. It is an upgrade! Yes anything new may have bugs. There are negative posts on here regarding the upgrade. That is what most forums are though. People looking for answers with things they either can't operate or are not working properly. Between AF and SDX most if not all the fixable problems are answered. This is one of the best forums and community I have ever been part of. Everyone tries to help and there are lots of people willing to help. Battery life has significantly improved for some and not for others. There are things you can do to change your battery life. There are things you can do to improve your use of the phone. Try it and if you don't like the upgrade then you can go back but I doubt if you upgrade you will want to. Hopee this helps.

As for Frezik, have you done anything but the stock upgrade. After you did the stock upgrade have you attempted a hard reset? You can also double check the android keyboard menu shortcuts for the browser when using the hardware keyboard under menu/settings/(can't remember and the phone is not allowed to be out right now) but do some digging and you will find it. Hope that helps as well.
