Help Moment 2.1 Update Thread

I have a technical question about upgrading to Android 2.1 - both my fiancee and myself have the Moment, and last night we upgraded both phones.

My phone is running like a dream and I am loving the new features. His phone, however has some quirky things going on. The browser crashes whenever you visit Google's homepage - we figured out that you have to disable "find location" to fix that. But he is also having some goofy things going on with his keyboard (the letter "a" won't work!). We upgraded from the same computer - so I am wondering if something with the update didn't import quite right.

My question is this - is it safe for us to reflash the Android 2.1 system to his phone? Do we have to revert it back to factory settings (1.6) before we do that?
You should be able to just reflash it. You don't have to go back to 1.5 (we never had 1.6). If it happens again, get another copy of the 2.1 file and put a fresh one in. It shouldn't make a difference, but maybe it did in this circumstance.

On Saturday it stayed on 100% for a couple of hours then slowly dropped throughout the day. Today it dropped to 90% in less then an hour. There was no real difference is how I used the phone Saturday vs today. Yesterday the phone was in airplane mode most of the day, so the results are meaningless.
Glad to know it's not just me.

I noticed a few days ago that this new market lists programs not installed through the market. I backed up everything and then restored them from the SD card not expecting updates(thankfully, sick of updating all the time) and sure enough I got a notification for updates.

Cool!

Thank you! We'll try to reflash it tonight and see what happens (fingers crossed!)

Following the instructions exactly, the update from Sprint to 2.1 hosed the phone. Had to take it to the store for a fix.

Is this ready for prime time?

Just wanted to report back that reflashing the phone did not fix the Google locations issue. His phone still crashes whenever a Google search is launched if search with locations is enabled. Mine however works just fine - both phones upgraded from the exact same computer. So weird!

Has anyone else noticed a drop in batter life after the upgrade? Before the upgrade, we could both get through a normal day with less than 50% battery usage. After the upgrade I'm not even making it through the day without needing to charge up the phone. I have a task killer enabled, and have done all the usual things (dimmed screen, turned off wi-fi, etc) to cut down on usage.

It seems as though the update wasn't ready to be released. Why when I go to accounts and sync and try to add an account (facebook) it never works. It doesn't even bring up a way for me to log in.

I got my update at a sprint repair store. I had to call a couple different ones first to find one that had it or was doing it. The first one said they didn't have it yet but the second one did it with no problems. In and out in a 1/2 hour.

So does your facebook sync work fine?

I downloaded a facebook widget from the market and that has never worked even before the update. The icon to the app takes me into facebook touch and that works fine though.

but if you go to settings>accounts and sync> add account and click facebook does it do anything?

Strange about search with locations... I assume you've checked settings on both phones and compared other installed apps across the two Moments? Very weird indeed!

My battery life is good, really quite decent on 2.1... maybe slightly better (but no worse) than it was under CL14.

Not sure if it did anything or not. It went right to my facebook notification page but it was old and needed to be refreshed. Tried it again and got nothing. If I hit google it takes me to the setup wizard but I stopped there.

No, it is definitely broken. Just goes back to the account sync page.

It works with 2.1 on my Droid, but not on the Moment. :(

Not a biggie though, I just use the Android app for Facebook and hit Menu/Refresh (which does work).

Well the only thing is if it would sync all your contact pictures would too and on my boyfriends droid it shows his contacts facebook status with the sync.

I haven't heard anyone say that this mythical Facebook sync works. It was recommended to me, and I have subsequently been recommending to everyone I can, to use SyncMyPix. Awesome app that does exactly what you're wanting and probably more.

I'm confused ...what version do i have, are the Baseband version and the Build number suppose to end in DE03?.. this is what my phone says..

Firmware = 2.1-update1

Baseband = s:m900.8.os.DE03

Kernal = 2.6.29

Build # = ECLAIR.DD10

Installed I have 2.1 w/ Recovery 3.0.8, rooted with JK v.7, DE03 Theme template, live wallpapers, custom boot logo and boot animation.

I also installed the noclock zip for DD10 ..would that of changed the build#?
