Root momentary 3g data speed?

I noticed my data icon changed back and forth quite a few times between 3g and 1x. never stayed at 3g more than 30-45 seconds and signal went to no/1 bar while it was on 3g. full bars on 1x though. I'm on joneidy sense rom and his custom recovery. have prl 3020. no themes installed. anyone have any ideas or any theory's on how to lock it into 3g maybe? on a side note I have had signal issues for a few days and couldn't get almost any signal on CM7 rom so I came back to sense rom. then this. I have a few screen shots but gotta figure out how to post them

Several people that have prl 3020 are getting 3g indicator, some for extended length of time and even some better then 1x speeds.
I to am in jax but I cant get prl 3020 it stays at 3019 every time I have tried updating.
I have not seen the 3g icon
But i am in the Arlington area which may be too far north for it.

Yeah, here in Georgia i am also at prl 3019, just updated last night after reading other people mentioning 3020. No success yet though. Using also Sense rom. I love the price of metro, but damn the data and coverage sucks so far behind. You give and take though. $50 is (FOR NOW) still worth it. No 3020 YET here though.

-Install LTE OnOff
-Scroll to bottom and change it to EVDO only
-But it forces it into 3G signal and where it cant get EVDO it will just drop the signal
