Root More screen real estate

I've been waiting for custom ROMS to introduce this kind of feature, can't wait to see it implemented in all custom ROMS.
 
Oh man, just when I thought I had a phone that I was going to stick with the stock OS for a while I had to go and read this thread....

Looks like CM is going to suck me back in on this phone too. Maybe I will hold out for a couple more weeks at least though.
 
You can get the same functionality with GMD Gesture Control app. The Lite version displays a notification the whole time, but you can map any gesture to toggle software buttons.

It also allows you to map any gesture (multi touch or otherwise) to pretty much any system command. Try it!

(There are also plenty of other apps that just offer the navbar hotdog functionality. They do require root, but not a custom ROM. Having said that, I use a ROM that makes the navbar 75% smaller anyway, so it's less pod an issue, but still nice to hide it and get full use of the screen!)
 
Paranoid Android has taken this a step further with their PIE controls, you can have expanded desktop all the time and still access nav controls ;)

How does this works? Gestures? I had the idea of not rooting my N4 for a while, but now you are making me think about it.
