Root Most recommended thing to do with root?

Just rooted my phone 2 days ago.. I have wireless tether and titanium backup... What else is there to do?? download custom roms and kernels? I don't see why being rooted is so great... someone enlighten a noob.
 
Wireless tether, alone, is a good enough reason to root. I'm sure Robtheknob7 just wants to know what else he can do now. Nothing wrong with that.

Read the Rooting for Dummies thread all the way through. It includes some good information on what else is available to you. You can also search the market for "root", which will give you a lot of root only apps. Be careful, though, as these phones do come locked down for a reason...

Yeah seriously... not paying the $30 bucks a month for the hotspot feature is a pretty good reason to root.

Custom roms and kernals are great because they add features to your phone along with speeding up your phone or increasing your battery life. Another great thing to do with root is customizing the look with themes and mods.

The great thing about android is the customization that it allows... but if you dont have root access you dont have much access to a lot of the customizations possible.
 
Id like to customize the look a little more... Do I need a custom rom to do that? Or can I download something while using the stock rom??

Also is there better live wallpapers anywhere? The rainbow colered moving balls are getting old. And to me the grass and water is stupid

You will need a ROM that is deodexed. Without going into too much detail, it means that system apks can be modified for theming. Pretty much any mod you'll want to flash to customize the look that much will require this. You can find a lot of mods/themes here:

EVO 4G Themes and Apps - xda-developers

Always read the posts for whatever you like very closely as not everything is compatible with all ROMs. That being said, most custom ROMs are deodexed already. See this post for an idea of what people are using:

There are many, many other threads in the rooting section here that discuss custom ROMs.

As far as live wallpapers are concerned, you don't need root for that. Just search the market for live wallpapers. There are a lot of them out there.
 
I think I'm goin to go w. the myns warm rom... since its recommended my lots and seems to work great. I have the newest version of the Evo, will that cause any problems?
 
once you really start trying out new things and being active on these threads, you'll wonder how you ever lived without a rooted phone, my 2 cents
