Motion being discontinued?

I saw that PG mentioned that the Motion would be discontinued as soon as existing stocks ran out. This is where I'm confused, many felt this was a good thing or at least thats what i took away from their comments. What would be a positive about this and why?

Here I was thinking we had a phone that was new and would be developed further. Now I'm worried that it may be the end of the road as far as being able to get the bootloader unlocked or that interest will definetly cool off now.

Please- someone explain this to me, even at the risk of making me look like a complete fool for not already knowing the reasoning behind this.

I think it was a move to get a large batch of new customers.
Probably having something to do with the merger.
I am sure a large many of people went with metro just for the price of the motion

well the chances of the bootloader getting unlocked are slim to none, prolly have better chances of getting ice water in hell. ;)

Other than the bootloader tho, development all depends on who is willing to put time into it. BobZhome owns one, so I dont think he will stop any time soon. I should have the one I am getting tomorrow and I will be putting some time into it for a undetermined time. And anyone else is welcome to jump in at any time. ;)

I had already posted some time ago that to me, this 2nd set of rebates and price drops signaled the near end of the Motion.

Metro wanted it, at it's decent price point, to pump up the number of FoGee! customers which IMO it did just fine.

But, newer phones with similar or better specs And Bigger Screens were also closing in fast on the scene too.

That's OK, I think the Motion turned out to be a Great Deal for everybody.

Mine only got used a couple months before I got my Spirit, my Motion costs me about $100 and I'm perfectly happy for that to be my "phone insurance" now with the Spirit.

With the Motion being discontinued will Metro continue sending PRL and other updates when available or will we have to do them manually from here on out?

You may just have to dial 228
I highly doubt prl is phone specific
That shouldnt be an issue ads far as i can tell

The PRL is sent to the network, not the phone based on model. If you have a phone on Metro's network and they push a PRL, you should get it.

Only phone specific PRL so far is the S3 PRL

I've had mine for 8 months now, I stuck with my last phone (Optimus M) a lot longer because I didn't like the Esteem or Connect and I wanted to wait for a great phone at a great price - which was the Motion.

When I upgrade (probably to a Spirit), I'll probably give my Motion to my brother so he can FINALLY have a good phone. He's still suffering with the OM, in an area that has no 3g-he only gets 1x on that phone.

oh the esteem and connect both blow the OM/C out of the water, but their prices suck and still do.

And switching carriers, I would check which one has the best coverage, etc b4 I decided. I am loving tmo. ;)

I'm curious, if they discontinue the motion will there be any price drops, rebates, etc.?

Also what does a motion currently cost?

I just bought mine last week from MetroPCS for $149 plus tax. As I looked at the available phones, the Motion looked good. I had no idea it was being discontinued. No one at the store mentioned it.

+1 $149 is what mine cost and it being discontinued is was teh excuse given for not having any in stock, which none of the stores in Dalton had any and one from another store ordered/picked up.

IMO That's freekin' nutz.

I'd buy a refurb or used Spirit off The Bay for <$200 before I'd spend over $150 for a Motion.
