We've finally been able to get our grubby little paws on the Moto 360 smartwatch. It's one of three of the first Android Wear smartwatches, and it's probably our favorite one yet.

My guess is that the 360 will launch along side the new moto x. I could wait. Gives me time to save. I'm going all out with a new phone, smartwatch and tablet.
 
I'll wait too. The 360 looks elegant and premium. Like a high performance car. The LG G looks a clunky square box with an awkwardly sized screen slapped in the middle. Like my old TI calculator watch.

LOL... TI calculator watch? I remember having the TI81 calculator, but a watch didn't even exist yet.
 
I really like the look of it, though the bottom of the screen not working on the demos yesterday bothers me. Hopefully that was just an issue with the demo device they had yesterday.

I am hoping that it has a heart rate monitor, one of the reviews yesterday mentioned an indention on the bottom.

I'm actually hoping they use a standard setup for the bands, that way you could just pick up a band anywhere, and in any style. Otherwise if it breaks you'd have to go online to get a replacement.
 
I agree that I would like to see it thinner. It looks like it really sticks off the wrist in some pictures. I tried a metal band on my Pebble watch and it was a disaster. The vibration that the watch did was no longer "silent". If a notification came through the whole room heard it. So I ended up ordering a 22mm band that had links in it but was rubber and black. Much better. It helps class the watch up a bit.

That has always been my problem with these watches looking too much like toys. I did not upgrade to the Pebble Steel but I did wonder if they had the same vibration problem that my Pebble had with a metal band.

I will see if the Moto 360 comes out soon with the metal band and if it has vibration problems. If there is an issue I will just get the LG G Watch and swap my rubber link band from my Pebble on it to make it look better. I think it would be harder finding a band to fit the round Moto 360 because the connection looks like it is in an awkward spot.

At Google I/O, they said "later this summer". I say it gets released the same time as the Moto X+1, so if you keep a google search set for that phone and its release date, that's when we should expect moto 360.

My guess is mid-August.

i'm also worried about it overheating.
this thing will be on your wrist so you will know good and well when it gets hot.

That and how long should this thing last? is it water proof? scratch resistant?

i'd love to have one but i wont be stupid about it.

I'm about 99% sure it will be water proof, since the Moto line of phones all have splash proofing (and some, like the Moto G, seem like they could be considered waterproof).

I've also seen rumors that the Moto 360 may have sapphire glass.

While I agree that people should check the specs before they buy, I believe it is safe to assume that the Moto 360 will be waterproof and scratch resistant.
 
For me I will need to be convinced that it will last 4-5 years which is typical lifespan for me for watches.

Yup, I agree, which is why my initial prediction (and one I am hoping is true) will be a $249 witg additional bands costing extra (varying price, depending in band materials). Since all of the test models shown at Google I/O were leather, I am guessing that will be included on the watch and one can purchase the metal band for an additional 50-100. To me, that just seems logical. That would be a way for Motorola to maximize profit margin.

With many consumer electronics, the biggest profits are made from the add-on accessories. Anybody purchase a 3D TV before? If you get an honest sales person, they will tell you that they can make a better profit selling 4 glasses on a single TV purchase.

Plus, I'm hearing there's going to be multiple colors for the bands as well. It's almost August. I'm surprised we haven't received anymore details yet.
