Moto Droid Gallery Video

Bruceo, when I started reading this thread, I thought you were just another Idiot troller looking to create unrest. I must say that my opinion has changed and I agree with you and understand where you are coming from. Though I have to point out, the Droid was never advertised as being better than an Idevice. Just capable of doing things it could not. The inverse could also be applied, Idevices can do things the Droid can not. (like have pretty and cute looking cases, and scroll through images faster)

I can honestly say I have never heard of anyone using their phone to backup a raid drive until now. Still scratching my head on that one. Seriously, though. I have like maybe 30-50 family/friend photos on my phone that I always carry around. A few hundred on my PC/external backup. I could put them all my phone, but why? More room for music, which is currently taking up about 12 gig of space on my phone, 120 gig on my PC/backup.

Ill be posting my own video in the morning but I exported 3303 raw files to jpg keep them in their original resolution and selecting the max setting for picture quality. I loaded my card up with junk in other folders and it is now sitting at almost 13GB's full and I can scroll back and forth through the gallery as fast as I can swipe the screen.. No lag, No little white boxes... So what am I doing wrong?

Looking forward to seeing it and possibly figuring out a solution.

1) Bruceo has mentioned in other posts that he clearly has a messed up DROID. I think he called it a "lemon" at one point and time. I think that should render any of his conclusions on the phone as being moot and irrelevant to the general DROID owning public. I mean the guy returned it for another phone it was so messed up!

2) Bruceo, you have still failed to answer my question. Even though others are experiencing DIFFERENT outcomes with the same file load on their SD card, there is CLEARLY something going on with your SPECIFIC DROID that is skewing the results. That being said, you haven't answered my question:

So, you've tried different class SD cards on your DROID and even touted the capabilities of the iPhone, being the tech-geek that you so profusely claim, can you tell me the difference between the iPhone/iPod's ability and speed to access its onboard NAND flash memory compared to the DROIDs ability and speed to access its SD card memory and how that can affect file retrieval rate?

Or, do you think that's irrelevant and believe it's completely fair to compare apples to oranges?

I still say by implication and direct comparison VZ is saying the droid can best the iphone in all areas and more and is a device without compromises, a robot in your pocket that just does. My dissapointment comes with the fact that it falls short in so many basics that it shouldn't and I am dissapointed that so many here are just blindly content with that. Do I like the phonme, yes, it is the best I have personally have ever owned but even as I type this post on the phones core browser I am dissapointed because the text is lagging about 5 letters behind but if I were typing on the 2G touch in mobile safari there would be no lag and then when I need to fix a typing mistake I realize because of the lag, it is a pita to locate the cursor because I have to dpad or lucky tap n the capacitive screen where it takes no time to finerslide with the fine placement magnifier. When I type a post this long I like to c&p in case I hit a button or something happens to my session but I don't even bother on the droid because the C&P even with the hard keyboard is a mess and often causes more probs than not. I mean this stuff is just basic....

S far as tons of photos... Thousands could be questional but hundreds is not unreasonable, but it shouldn't matter. It should be able to fluidly handle whatever multimedia fills the device especially if it is standard formats. You mention 12Gb of music, well we could discuss the numerous dissapointments in the media player, just compared to the eris not even the digitally clueless beauty queen...

Yeah I had to return the first lemon because it has at least 3 or 4 random reboots a day even after a hard reset, which is apparently not uncommon with the Droid. This one hasonly spontaneously rebooted twice in 2 weeks.

I dont need to get into a discussion about nand vs sd memory. Droid id supposed to be faster and it certainly is not. Then they should have used 16 or 32 gb of nand and put a sd slot in for expansion the it would have done instead od doesnt. Also, why put an sd card slot in that you cant remove without removing the battery thats also dumb....

bruceo... I shake my head at some of the things you said. You call DROID owners blind, but man, you're own biases blind you. You say the DROID fails to do the basics, but based on the responses, it appears that many people are content with how the DROID does the basics. Text lag? Never experienced it. I just cut&pasted today with ease. I was astounded how easy it was to dial a phone number of a store I searched on the web. Just long-pressed it and it dialed.

Maybe your fingers are too fat. Maybe that's why you hate the keyboard so much. Maybe that's why it's a "lucky touch" every time you touch the screen. My DROID has never spontaneously rebooted. Sounds like you got 2 out of 2 lemons. Maybe you should take that as a sign: Leave the DROID alone!

Go get another phone. Wait around for that perfect mystery phone. Sounds like you have the Eris already, so enjoy that while it lasts before you start calling it your POS phone like your TouchPro.

It's unfortunate that you've posted all these opinions about your DROID when clearly, you've have a bad experience with both your lemons. Needless to say, there are many others who are not having your UX and enjoy their phones a lot. But don't call them blind as some sort of generalization.

Ok, sorry it took so long to get this put up. It's been a long day lol. Anyway, as you can see in the video the SD card is pretty full, roughly 4GB left. The files are all straight .jpg exports of raw format pictures taken either with my wife's Nikon D40 or my Canon. There are 3,303 files in the picture folder in cast it wasn't clear enough in the video.

As you can see in the video there is never any lag or white boxes etc no matter how fast I scroll..

Lol, seriously? I opened the file to show you they were full size real files and not little tiny pics, since I figure that would be the first thing the creator of this thread would claim. I can make another one where I start to scroll as soo as I open the folder if people really want me too.

I still think the video demonstrates pretty clearly that the OP either has a bum phone or an agenda...

i was just giving you a hard time ;) thanks for going through all the trouble of doing that for the thread!

Thanks for posting that! Nice to knowb that even a full. Sd card and high rez photos that it can scroll smooth. I wonder if dxtop is creating too much overhead. Even typing this post I have a ton of lag. I have resigned myself to returning both the droid ands eris. And going back to my crappy. Touch pro until htc comes out with their os on fsster hardware I'm sure it is just around the corner. I'm going to go ahead and do a hard rest just to figure out wherehopefuthe underlying issue lies..

Why would you need to with 32GC full performance beats the SD sotrage because it lags the phone more as you fill it up. I have a class 6 and it lags like as in the video. use the affordable class 2 and it is at least 5 times worse.

That statement right there tells us all you're a douche. You know god-dammed well that micro-sd cards are slower than built in memory, yet you constantly slam the Droid over the iPhone/iPod Touch. Get a freaking iPhone and stop bitching.

Same ole loser responses. Get the point Mcfly. The droid is constantly
marketed as not only faster but implied that it blows away the iphone. I am calling it out. I guess they should add to the micetype "faster with only the 512mb of onboard ram"

Sure I'd get the iphone right now in a heartbeat if it were on Vz or Sprint as it clealy destroys the droid in in most features. It just irritates me that it could easily be the other way around if some common sense was put into the mix.

Your an idiot, i came out and said what everyone knows. Why in the hell would you need to scroll that dam fast and cant even see what the hell your looking for. Look hard enough and you find stuff. Dumb ass post sheesh

BTW it's .... You're. Which means "you are" not Your.

12gb of music. The the droid should be pretty frustrating because you can't even skip songs remotely with bluetooth headphones you can't even do it on the lockscreen. You have to power on, swipe, nav to the player and then skip. Terrible UX

1. he's handling the touch screen on the device completely different. Watch how rough and spastic he's hitting the droid. That's a biased review.
2. Apples and oranges. The droid has way more going on in the back ground that the ipod doesn't.
3. There's an app for that...Gallery multi touch in the android market place.
4. WHO CARES? It's lame to go on a android forum and tout a different phone....it lack class.

As I remember you took a different point of view when you posted about the Droid not having a basic Bluetooth operation like voice dialing. You said we shouldn't expect the Droid to do something as complicated as Bluetooth voice dialing. When others have a honest expectation they are young and foolish. When you have an expectation then the manufacturer should listen and rise to your occasion. I think I got it now.

WHAT?? You must have me confused with someone else. Point me to that post. I have been bitiching about the poor bluetooth support no reason bluetooth voice command/dialing should be the fail that it is currently on droid and android in general

1. The with the excption of the 1 comment on lack of responsiveness of the menu the whole demo had nothing to do with spastically touching. You're saying I somehow made the thubs not populate because I was spastic?

2. Yeah I guess it is apples & oranges an older proc Ipod beats the droid by far. There was nothing running in the bg but that is supposed to be a benefit not a hindrance.

3. Yeah and every app suggestion to sub for a lacked feature has been buggy and poor. Guys say oh multitouch is a gimick then all of a sudden its excited postings about how there is a browser or picture viewer but in the end they are buggy and their multiT is terrible.

4. I own a droid so I have got every right and there is not anything I have posted that is not true or backed up. The only thing lame here is your post and willingness to compromise and be suckered. PT barnum would love half the people on this forum.

I thought we'd already established based on my test that there is an issue with YOUR Droid and not will all of them. Yet you are still going on and on about it like it's a real issue.
