Motorola Atrix Battery Life

My battery is getting better with time...I just let it die all the way on every usage and they recharge it. It lasts me quite a while now under moderate to heavy use !

I am starting to see improvements. I think one of my issues is that I am a teacher and in our building, the phone is constantly going in and out of signal. I have had wifi on for 4 of the 8 hours that my phones has been on today and am still at 70% right now. Not a lot of use on that other than email, text and a phone call, but still 70% at this time of day I can live with.

So something weird happened today.

At around 1:30pm, battery shows 70%.

I did a factory reset on the phone. Afterwards it showed 90%! at around 2pm. Phone has not been charged during any period today since I unplugged it in the morning (8am).

After installing a bunch of applications it is now back down to 70%.

Does anyone know what just happened there?

Oh, phone runs noticeably smoother than it did before factory reset. Both using ADW EX

I've had my Atrix since Friday last week and will say that I unplugged it from the charger this morning at 5:00 am and I have 70% left at 3 pm. That's with 20 or so text messages 3-4 phone calls, several widgets running, pull email every hour, a few apps downloaded, and some games to boot! This has to be the BEST battery life for an andriod out there. I love the phone, but still not crazy about the motoblur, love htc sense ui, but the Atrix will be a great business phone for me. Need something for the weekends that has a better camera/multimedia exp.

I was concerned about the battery life at first. I have let it die before I put on the charger for 3 days straight and now I am getting much better battery life. I think part of the problem in the beginning was I was playing with the phone too much. The newness of the phone is gone and I have it setup exactly like I want it and the battery life is much better. I have had mine off the charger since 7:00am. I have made a lot of calls, a few texts and a few emails. I have checked the stock market and surfed a little and now at almost 3:00pm, its still at 80%.

If this continues, I will absolutely love everything about it. I came from a iphone3 and I am still getting used to android, but I love the speed and the customizations. I miss some of the apple simpleness, but overall a very good experience. I keep my battery saver at night time and run launcher pro plus.

So, does the factory reset improve the battery performance or does it just calibrate the percentage remaining display? What i think i notice is that it goes from 100 to 80 fairly quick but then the discharge slows down. I get around 24 hours on a charge (down to 5% remaining) with average use. I could have sworn it was doing better the first couple of days where I was playing with it none stop

Since you got it though, have you added a lot more apps? Just because you were playing with it the first day, maybe you didnt have a lot of crap running in the background.

I just did my second factory reset when I realized I had a lot of app crap still on the phone and SD card that I wanted to get rid of.

Still getting at least 16 hours on a battery before this though and Im very happy with that. Im on my phone ALL day.

not many apps, mostly games and speed tester, stuff like that. I just think something happened to the battery. It still shows that most of my drain comes from the display. doesnt that mean it isnt wifi in the background, etc? I am currently 3.5 hours from unplug (full charge) some wifi browsing, playing a couple of games, at 70%

I bought my Motorola Atrix last Saturday, and like many others, I have been having horrendous battery life. I tried to remove apps, lower my display, and numerous other things recommended by people on this thread.

One recommendation was to drain the battery completely so I did that.

Last night I completely drained my battery until it automatically shut off. I charged it completely to 100% over night and for the first 3 hours I have sent about 8 text messages and received 6 text messages, checked FB, Twitter, and the news and made about 3 phone calls and I am at 90%.

I did about the same amount of actions on Monday and Wednesday and I was at 60% at best.

My recommendation is to drain the battery completely and recharge it, so far it is night and day.

I will keep you posted! If I can't have this phone last from 7 AM to 9 PM in the evening it is not worth it.

BTW I love this phone!

One of the recommendations on this forum was to drain the battery completely and recharge to 100% over night. Have you done that yet? If not I would give it a go, as it worked for me.

I did that yesterday, fully discharge all the way until the phone turned off. Then charged to 100% which was achieved at 7pm yesterday. By 8pm I was at 90%, (very little use), by 9pm down to 80%, a few games played. By 10pm 70%. Went to sleep at around 10:30pm, shut off wifi, (battery set to night mode). Woke up at 7am with 60%. Virtually no use until 1pm and now its at 30%. To me the battery has gone from excellent to crap. It was a gradual process that kept going in the wrong direction. Can be a faulty battery. I have yet to try the factory reset.

OK. I sold my iPhone4 to buy my Atrix. I was disappointed because of the battery, my story is almost like anyone here, a living hell... But, consider that the iPhone do not sync any Widget or let you have Multiple Widgets on each screen, and does not let you have a live wallpaper. In fact the iPhone does not have a real multitasking, so Yes! If you want an excellent battery time, go for an iPhone4 or 5. If you are like me and want to give the Atrix another chance, lets do it: First, start fresh. Make a HardReset. Second, set display brightness to 10% or 15% (do not use automatic setting). Third, add your most used apps to the auto-end list in the NATIVE motorola task manager. --- Maybe with a bit of luck you will get a 24 - 36hrs (I am) of Normal use in your Atrix. :)

HARDRESET:

To perform an External Manual Reset of your handset to restore to factory settings, read instructions below and then perform.

Power off the phone, press and hold volume down button, press power button.
Screen will come up with "Fastboot", press Vol down key to cycle through choices until you get "Android Recovery", then press Vol up key
Wait for the "triangle ! / Android" screen then go on to step 4
Tap on bottom right corner of the screen (may take a few times). a menu will come up
Tap on "wipe data/factory reset", and tap OK. Another Confirmation screen will come. Tap Yes and OK
After userdata is cleared, the "reboot system now" option will be highlighted by Default. Tap OK.
Phone will reboot to initial setup MOTOBLUR screen.

I traded the iPhone4 (was within 30 days) for the ATRIX.

I use the automatic brightness setting, I don't use a task killer app or the stock task manager.

I've been told that you DO NOT allow the battery to get so weak that it turns off the phone during the initial conditioning stage. I allowed mine to get down to 20% from when it came out of the box and after 2 full charge cycles.

It's been unplugged now for 14 hours and I am at 50% power after a day of several long and many short phone calls, map and navigation use, web surfing, messaging and about 15 minutes of flashlight use.

I've had the Defy, G2, Hero, EVO, EVO Shift and while the Defy was close, none have had the battery life the ATRIX has not to mention a much faster processor and better (richer) display.

I really couldn't be happier.

WOW hope this works.. started out sweet!!!!

so my story is i keot going into setting and doing a factory reset and that didnt do ****. so now i saw this and after reset my battery went from 20-30 and now its at 50!!!! so this is off the the right start. thanks for the info on the "hard" reset

I am on my second Atrix because the first one was getting terrible battery life. The second one was having the same problem, until I just did the hard factory reset. I was at 70%, and now am at 90%, and has been off the charger for 5 hours. That is with browser, and words with friends games quite a bit. Definitely made a huge improvement and the reason I bought the phone to begin with!

I wonder if there's a way to just delete the cache'd files relevant to the battery calibration instead of having to reset the phone...then re-root...then restore backup...multiple times...

I'm getting about 14-18 hours from full to 5% empty in a day with minimal use.

Also, is there a way to get around the 10% battery reports? I'd like to see it say 86% instead of 80% and making me guess.

So we need to do a hard reset instead of the soft one in the Android menu?

What is the difference?
Soft reset = turning the phone off and then on again.
Hard reset = setting the phone back to factory settings, aka Factory reset.
You can do a factory reset through the menu setting (I believe there's a subfunction that asks, 'do you want to do a factory reset') or by going into the phone's directory setting when it boots up.

Okay, thanks. I did a Factory reset under the menu. Just want to be sure it is the same as the phone's directory setting when it boots up.

NO They are not the same, I did the one in settings 2 times and no results. I did the one from the boot up and amazing results!!!!!
