Root Motorola Triumph having problems restoring

I wanted to try out a new ROM on my phone today, so I downloaded the new CM7 2.3.7 ROM. I followed all procedures in that I made a nandroid backup in CWM then installed it via CWM. As it turned out, I don't like the ROM, so I wanted to restore my phone. I went back into CWM and did a restore of the saved backup. When I rebooted the phone, the screen hangs on the red "M". This can only be resolved by installing the CM7 ROM again.

I just want my original ROM back without wiping the phone. Any suggestions?

I'm sorry to say that it seems like your backup has corrupted or failed. It's like that sometimes. Check the clockmodwork\backup\ folder for the size of your backup. If it's less than 100 MB, it's failed. Usually backups are like 200+ MB.

You can always reinstall the ROM you had before and go to Google Play Store -> My apps, and redownload them fast. You will have to re-setup the ringtone and stuffs and you won't be able to recover your old SMS/MMS anymore. Sorry.

I'm using 5.5.0.4 and am just trying to restore my phone to the way it was before I tried out the update. Not sure if it's corrupted or not because the backup file is 800MB or so.

My backups on CM7 are around 600MB, so 800 doesn't sound bad. Look at your backups. if they say something like system.ext4.tar, then change them to ext3. The stock kernel doesn't support ext4.

Have you tried doing a "Format/System" under Mounts & Storage in CWM before restoring your backup? I'm thinking something is being left behind from CM7 when you're doing the restore.

By changing them, I assumed you meant renaming the files. That gave me an MD5 mismatch. Is there a way to convert them?
