Motorola's Official Triumph Forum.

I've been browsing through Motorola's support forum and realized that they have supplied no help in getting their hardware to work properly, and as of today, their website "update" system doesn't current support devices that they've been selling in retail channels for nearly a month now.

https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/55114?tstart=5

This morning, I made a few phone calls while travelling. I used the device itself, and then tried (2) different bluetooth headsets, attempting to speak with folks on both land lines and mobile phones. I could BARELY hear them on the other end. I've had other experiences where I didn't have the volume cranked like I did today, and when I did turn the volume up, the phone's audio started to break up.

This coupled with the idea that I have to download some Market app to get GPS to fix properly, with the fact that the video camera can't record above 9 frames per second (regardless of what their advertising info may read), throw in the fluky bluetooth in some circumstances, and the reception that runs significantly less than other Virgin Mobile phones. And that's just touching on everything that's wrong with this darn thing.

I understand that some folks are willing to overlook the basic operations of today's telephone, but dang, this thing is rapidly approaching unusable.

I could enter the Motorola forums like others have, only to realize that their attitude is "we'll get around to it when we get around to it," but clearly this isn't going anywhere. I'm getting close to the Best Buy 30 day return window, and I don't know any other way to vote that we need a better device, than to pack this thing up and take 2 to 3 hundred bucks back OUT of Motorola's pocket.

Is THIS the new standard for smartphones? Hey, it doesn't really do what we advertise it will right out of the box, but maybe we'll think about updating it, if we get around to it.

Maybe my expectations that a device would do what it said it would were just too high. I've only been using Android devices for about a year now, but this Triumph is the grandest disappointment of them all. Do all Android devices have this extreme disparity in being incapable to operate properly? Am I just out of line here?!?! This is crazy!

(HELP!!! really frustrated here)

Careful. That person may or may not be an employee.I think expert status comes from the number of posts one makes there.....not ones expertise with the phone.

With all of the issues that you list, it sounds like your phone has some hardware issues. If it were me, I would take go and exchange it before the end of your 30 days are up. As a side note, I don't have any of those issues so you might get a better one in exchange.

I've noticed folks that have returned their phones 3 and 4 times, only to have the same exact issues. I really don't think I have that much time on my hands.

There must have been a bad batch of these phones because as of yet the only issue I have had is the light leak at the bottom of the phone.

If that's the way that you feel, it might be best if you return it and get something else that you might be happier with before your return period is over and you're stuck with a device you don't want.

You should probably return your phone. Three hundred dollars is a lot of money to have spent if you are that unsatisfied. I think there must be a huge disparity in the quality of these phones that initially shipped out. In my opinion some people on these forums have just been nit picking while others seem to have very legitimate issues with their phones. I bought this phone on July 19th and have used it extensively since then every single day. The call quality on both ends is fine, the signal strength is fine, gps locks on with google or any other app quickly, touchscreen has been ultra responsive (I did peel off the second screen protector). What I would like to see for this phone is an upgrade of the Android OS and a higher capacity battery. Those are both things I am willing to wait for. This phone easily met and exceeded the expectations I had coming in to it. It's too bad that so many others seem to have real problems. I honestly love this phone and only posted this so that others out there could read about my positive experience with the Triumph.

I returned the Triumph about a week ago. I, too, do some business and need to be connected and at least receive notice that I received some sort of communication and need to return calls or emails, etc. etc.

I only had 1 Triumph, which out of the box, worked pretty much most of the time. What finalized the decision to return and go back to a major carrier was the 3G outages I experienced too often. Whether it was phone antenna or software related or VM side... Having to enter Airplane mode and back out a number or times and having VM reset my connection to the tower... that was enough to out weigh the savings cost between VM's $25/month and $60/month...

Connectivity to my family with elder relatives is a MUST even over business... 99.5% up time is a must for me and for me VM failed in that area.

Here's my two cents: it's all about context.
I ran a law firm and a busy personal life for three years on an iPhone. I had no issues like the ones I and others discuss on this forum everyday. Between a $300 solid, reliable phone and the minutes/data I used, my expenses were well into the triple digits per month. That was okay...until the economy did what it did 3 years ago.
I am back in school, so I use my phone for academic and personal use alone- that is to say I spend time at my laptop on campus, not at a desk or in a courthouse. Therefore my requirements for a device changed -as did my comm. budget.
I have (and will keep) the Triumph. I sincerely hope that the network improves, that updates happen, etc: but I do not plan on it. Since my expenses are low, I'll make do and cross my fingers.
I cannot say enough good things about the Optimus V - if it weren't for the dinky resolution and lousy internal memory, I would've gladly kept it for long time. I gave that to my mother to use, who is pleased as pie (also a former iPhone customer).
Bottom line: I switched to VM out of budgetary concerns. I get a strong phone signal in my home, at school, and on the roads between my home and my family half a state away. I use wifi most of the day. If that weren't the case, I would bitch and moan and go sign a contract and get a huge discount on a very nice Android or another iPhone with one of the big guys.
With the issues you present - which remind me of my previous life as a paralegal - it sounds like you need a carrier that can be accountable for quality control and reliability. Sorry to say that that just isn't VM, much less the Triumph - I would never keep either if I were back to my old job.
Good luck to you, MP

I "lurk" the Triumph forums and have yet to jump from my Optimus-V. My only issue with the V is the display size. I just rooted it (after 6 months), and now I have over 100mb free memory (which was my only other issue). I hope Motorola fixes their quality issues and updates the software, once they do I'll reconsider it.

In regards to display size, is the main text actually bigger and more readable on the Triumph? (like icons and menus where you can't change font size). I ask because I bought a 7" Acer tablet and found it worse than my OV, so I returned it.

It is. Not only is the screen bigger, but the icons and text look more clear when compared to the Optimus. The only reason I "upgraded" to the Triumph was because of the Snapdragon and larger screen.

Considering going back to my Optimus for awhile...it seems like other companies are starting to put more phones out on the prepaid market.

After about 27 days with the Triumph, I'm back on the Optimus V (and very happy with it). The screen size of the Triumph was one of it's [very few] advantages, if that's what you're looking for.

It makes me sad to hear about the problems people have with their Triumphs. I've had mine for over a month now and have had zero problems with it. And I'm thankful for that. I got one of the good ones. It's too bad the quality control wasn't up to par before these were available. I wish everyone's worked as well as mine.

@ previous posters -text size is bigger, and the resolution obviously better. The display is a big part of why I left the OV with my ma - Netflix looks great on this over wifi.
But yeah, the quality of the first units out the door would seem to be pretty crappy. I will be initiating an exchange for a new unit hopefully on Friday - scared to really, since the GPS is the only real, consistent, meaningful issue for me. And yeah, if I had thought this through more in advance, I'd have kept my OV for a few days after I got the Triumph - but I can't really ask my mom for a phone back, can I> ;)

It is really disappointing. The one thing the Triumph has the the Optimus does not, that I miss the most, is that little blinking light letting you know there's activity when you screen is asleep. It's silly, but after having that little light for a month or so, I really miss that with the OV.

Frustrated.

I'm trying to do daily business on this smartphone.

Then you are doing it wrong. If you have daily business to conduct, you should pony up for a higher end phone on a REAL carrier. The Triumph is a LOW END smartphone, and Virgin Mobile is a LOW END carrier.

A Virgin Mobile phone will never have better reception than any major carrier because it can't roam. At best you are equal to Sprint service.

The price for a standard peice of hardware with the Triumps features is over $500. Yours was $300. Things need to be cut to get that price, QA obviously being one of them.

You can't expect filet mignon for the price of ground chuck. If you rely on your phone for work or business, you don't buy a Virgin Mobile phone, simple as that.

Ah forget it. I simply returned the device and put Motorola's cash back in my pocket. Went back to the Optimus V, and strangely, a phone at half the price works fine.

Honestly, as I'm never out of Virgin Mobile's "claimed" service area, I really don't have a problem with the service. The problems were with the Triumph device itself. Whether I got a good one or a bad one, it really was a disappointment for a handheld device ... at any price.

From what i am understanding after looking at many forums is that the first couple of shipments had lots of lemons but not so bad with the later ones... mine (which i have had for a month) have been flawless. No issues stock or after rooting and heavy modification...
