Help Moving contacts from iPhone to Epic (or any Android Device)

If you don't already have one, open up a Gmail account. From Gmail, you can import your contacts from Outlook. Once your contacts are in Gmail, the Epic will transfer them when you log in. As for you wife and son, they can also open a Gmail account, and import them from any computer.

Then login using the same Gmail on your android phone and you should be set.

i just did this with the wifes iphone. get a gmail account if you don't have one already. then in itunes, you go to info, select sync to gmail account, put in your gmail username and password and sync the thing, your contacts will go to gmail.
I tried the way listed on google sync and it didn't do anything and exporting to outlook and then to google is just too much hassle when there is a simple easy way to do it.

Yes this is so easy too. As soon as you enter the GMail account to the Epic all your contacts will be in your phone. soooo easy.

I just want to add one thing. I know this is in the epic section, but it holds value to any UI layer that comes with syncing calendar functionality (i think); I came from the Evo and although I did love the device, simply decided to sell it and go for the Epic. That's not what's important. What is important to note is that when I had my Evo, I signed my facebook account into the sense UI and it synced calendar events of friends, acquaintances and events into my GOOGLE calendar account. This is monstrously irritating and cannot be undone (at least not to my knowledge). So unfortunately my google calendar, accessed by any android phone or computer for that matter is very littered with unecessary information such as peoples birthdays and google cannot differentiate what was input by me or synced from facebook because the phone manufacturer's layer did all the behind the scenes work. I posted this here because we were talking about syncing with your gmail account which also links to your calender. So just a warning, be careful about what you're syncing and how often. That is all.

I'm not sure you're right. I just logged into my google calendar and none show up on my calendar. So no they don't infiltrate your "google" calendar. In fact if you go into your calendar on the Evo and click on menu, more, calendars...you can turn the facebook calendar off, and you will never see it.
So it doesn't combine with your google calendar. It is a separate entity shown in a combined calendar, and you can disable if you want to.

I stopped in yesterday to my local Sprint store to see if they at least had the Epic on display. They said that they are restricted to showing the phone prior to Tuesday.
But to the point of my original post, he told me that they will move all contacts from my old phone to the Epic. They have a device that they use to move the data. Should take but a minute. I wasn't concerned about my data as I have everything synced with Outlook, but this helps for the rest of my family that does not use outlook. Just avoids that extra step of syncing with Gmail.

Sounds good in theory, but I'm not sure it associates them with an account you can easily sync. They'll just be under the "phone" account. The point of the extra steps of gmail is so you can easily put them on any new smartphone that syncs OTA with google. You migrate them from their old phone to an android phone and what happens to their contacts when they lose their phone? They are gone. You sync with google, they are always there, an email and password away from being synced back up to your phone. WP7, webOS, Android will all sync with google, so why not just go through the extra steps initially and not have to worry about it ever again? Plus you can hop onto google.com/contacts and update things from there so it will sync to your phone.

I have my email and contacts in Yahoo, since I have AT&T internet at home. I was able to set up my email in the default client just fine, but there doesn't appear to be an "out of the box" way to sync contacts. I see an app on the market to do it, but before buying I wanted to check and see if I was just missing some way to do this with the phone as-is.

In case anyone else is in the same boat, YContact seems to work great -- all my 370ish contacts were synced to my contacts DB in less than a minute. Haven't tried to make sure changes get propagated yet, but it sure looks worth the $2.
