Thunderbolt Multimedia Dock, Extended Battery & Wireless Charging Battery Door Leaked

by Quentyn Kennemer on March 15th, 2011 at 6:29 pm
Although Verizon has finally officially announced the HTC Thunderbolt’s launch today – it’ll be in stores this Thursday, for your info – we haven’t gotten many details on what you can pick up beside it. New images sent to us confirm they will be offering an extended battery and a multimedia dock with it, though.

The battery is 2750 mAh – a step up from the stock 1400 inside the thing – and will run you about $50. Sounds like it might be worth the investment considering how much juice you’ll need to keep those LTE radios going. Staying in the realm of batteries, there’s a special battery door going for $39.99 that’ll allow you to charge your device wirelessly using induction charging technology.

For $59.99, you can grab the multimedia charging dock that’ll prop your device up in landscape mode and – well – charge the thing. We’re sure there’s some sort of port other than micro-USB on there – it wouldn’t be called a multimedia dock, otherwise. We’re not sure exactly what’s on here, though. It’s a toss up between mini HDMI and a 3.5mm headphone jack. We’ll be digging for more information on that, obviously.

What’s more is that it not only has room for an external battery should you choose to install one, but it can also charge a second battery while your phone is sitting inside. It’s clear Verizon and HTC have thought long and hard about the power requirements of the Thunderbolt and want to afford every option possible to the end-user.
Less exciting stuff include a couple of holsters and cases. It wasn’t said whether or not any of these accessories would be available at launch, but we’re not going to assume they will be. (We all saw how long it took the EVO’s more desirable accessories to come to market.) Any of you thinking about picking any of this stuff up? [Thanks, anon!]

Thunderbolt Will Have a Multimedia Desktop Charging Dock, Priced at $59.99

On 03.15.11, In Accessories, News, by Kellex
As a huge fan of desktop charging docks, this is great news, especially since the Incredible’s couldn’t seem to find any room on a store shelve during its life. Our buddies over at Phandroid snagged a shot of the Thunderbolt equipment guide though, and it details a lot of the accessories that should be available for Thursday’s launch including a multimedia dock. It looks to be priced at $59.99, which is pretty standard for these types of docks. We aren’t sure yet if it’ll have an HDMI-out port, and we’re thinking it won’t since the device itself doesn’t, but they did call it “multimedia.” We’ll keep our fingers crossed.
And hit up the source link to see word on the extended battery that will be available. I know some of you are battery freaks and have been dying to know when or if it will come out. Yay accessories!

So very happy to see this. Been loving the dock since the storm 1. Have one for my Droid X aswell.
Im REALLY loving that it will work with the extended battery

dock looks pretty sick- my dad has 2 port external charger that he can charge his phone AND another battery simultaneously. seems TOO convenient actually! so this is basically what the dock is for? where as the wireless battery cover is...?

So if I can charge the extra battery on the dock, I'm wondering if I really need an extended battery or if I'm just as well off with two standard batteries. I guess I may just hold off for a week to see how the standard battery works. I hate having the extended cover so if I can get by with two standards that's preferable for me. It is nice that the charger can handle the extended battery both on the charger and on the phone. I wonder if they took that into consideration with the car dock as well.

Also, I wonder if there is some way to change the program that starts when inserted into the dock. I plan to use the dock/phone as an alarm clock as well so it would be nice if the clock program started instead of the multimedia menu.

How can you not be good with 2 standard batteries ya know? I guess it depends what you're doing but 2 fully charged batteries seem good enough-- not to mention convenient. going to really think about the dock b/c idk if they will have a more simple 2 prong charger

--PS- HDMI OUT is what this phone is missing. that would be soooo sick if it was on the dock!

I've gone the route of extended thick batteries and I find that just have an external charger and a spare battery is by far a better way to go and doesn't make your phone look like a brick . The only thing the extended big batteries are good for is long Road trips that you will be pounding away pandora the whole time and are like me and refuse to have your phone ever plugged in haha

Also that dock looks awesome , I wonder if it has a HDMI (like someone else asked earlier) $60 is pretty steep even with my discount it's stil about $50 with tax
I feel like it would be listed if it did have and HDMI

Hmm to get the dock or the wireless charging cover and a powermat.

im not a big fan of the power mat-- its really the same thing as normal. there is still a cord plugged into the powermat and you just set you phone on it. its not truly wireless. also, you have to change the back cover to a special one (which i wouldnt want to do) for the powermat.

-just my 2cents, maybe the multimedia dock will have some cool feature besides charging?

the price is steep. with hdmi out it's a non brainer, no hdmi out makes it a more difficult decision. i might wait to see what seidio cooks up since i have their case. being able to charge an extra battery is nice though.

I'm going out on a limb and going saying no HDMI out. I'm guessing this dock has speakers built in it and uses Bluetooth to stream music from the phone to the dock.

I love my dock for the X I have one at home and one at the offfice.

I was very disappointed to hear that they were not available for the TB today.

FWIW: I never used the HDMI out with my x, I used the dock for charging and as a stand.

it's really stupid that sense doesn't work in landscape... especially if you are going to put it into a dock.

I ordered the Multimedia Dock at a Verizon Store on day one ... and still waiting :(

I went into a VZW store just a few days ago and it showed up in their system as N/A. He didn't even offer to have me order it.

So I don't even think it's available yet. I want it very much too, so please update me if you hear anything about your order and when it will come.
