Music Apps Question

Newbie
Is everyone primarily using the music player in the Android phone or is there a favorite out there?

Well, now I seem to have a bigger problem as none of my music will copy over from iTunes. Annoying...

Can you locate the mp3's om your computer, if so create a folder on the Droid named music and copy everything into it.
 
i use the stock music player, mostly because the tunewiki app/widget (especially widget) are ugly as sin and the buttons are too small.

the stock music player also integrates into my last.fm app; tunewiki has last.fm but it automatically scrobbles in the app, and i want to use the last.fm widget, which tunewiki doesnt' seem to integrate into (i may be doing something wrong there).

one thing i don't like, tunewiki seems to be opening on startup on me (even when the widget isn't on my home screen) which i don't like.

however, i love the idea behind tunewiki, hopefully they can get a good designer on board and stop it from running on phone boot :)
 
Where will that folder show up? I created on my home screen (should I have created it somewhere else?) and it is not showing up in the "no name" icon folder on my Mac. Yes, I correctly mounted, unmounted etc.

Dang that was annoying. You had it right...at least as near as one can get. I had to create a folder on my Mac entitled Music (with whatever I wanted in it) and then copy that folder over to the "no name" drive.

When you mount, create the new folder via your Mac - not via the Android UI. The just stick your mp3s in the folder via the Mac. Does that make sense?

folders on your home screen vs folders on your SD card are different - when you create a folder on the home screen, you won't see it when you mount the drive to your computer.

mounting shows you the contents of the SD card, which you can imagine as an external drive, whereas the folders on your homescreen are equivalent of your internal hard drive on your computer (yes, this is a very strange but visually easy to understand similie).

so, you won't have to create anything on your home screen, just mount the phone to your computer, and on the "No Name" drive on your mac create a Music folder, and drag what you want in there.

it should automatically find them no matter where on the SD card you put them.

TuneWiki 2.0 will not run on boot. It currently runs anytime the Android Media scanner finishes scanning, so that it can synchronize the internal TuneWiki library with the Media scanner's list. The media scanner scans on boot. This will no longer be necessary in TuneWiki 2.0. In 2.0 we will have some UI refinement, but in the long term we will be changing the UI quite a bit, so keep an eye out.

makes sense but... :) to me that sounds like it does run on boot then, even if it's not firing itself because the phone booted, the user experience is: phone boots, tunewiki is started :p

that's not to say i don't understand why, and thank you for the explanation, knowing what it's doing encourages me to install it again. if this was in the release notes i must have skimmed it; if it's not i'd suggest adding it? as it's the only reason i uninstalled tunewiki and now that i know the deal will be putting it back on the phone so i can keep track of updates for when the design of the widget is changed up some (the look doesn't bother me as much as the size of the buttons to be honest)

Good point, it does basically run on boot. Don't worry though, just keep an eye out for 2.0 where we will no longer run on boot...it will include other changes that makes the background playback service shutdown much faster when your music is paused or stopped also.
 
I just tired tunewiki and one big problem I have is that you can open a list by Genre. Meridian's music search let's be open by Genre, so I'll stick with that for now.

But agree, would be nice to get some better players.
 
I've been trying out RockOn since last night, free in the market. Looks promising but I haven't had enough time to really form an opinion vs. the stock Droid player.

Awesome! Can't wait :) Is there somewhere to see a list of upcoming changes? The big one I'm concerned about is the design of the widget, I really like the simplicity and large buttons on the default music widget and the last.fm player. If not no biggie, I'll just wait with baited breath, as I really want to switch to TuneWiki. I already reinstalled it ;)
 
I use RockOn, which has a nice little widget. I hate TuneWiki because it keeps advertising to me and soliciting me for dates. The stock player is OK, but RockOn is more fun to use.
 
I second MixZing. Been using it for a few days and like it much more than stock...especially being able to sort by genre...
