Root Must know: htc sync 3 after root

if you apply an OTA update to a rooted phone, it will give you loads of problems and you will lose root. It's a no no!

it should as long as you have a htc sense rom.
please be aware that simply rooting will not resolve your space issues

Yes Rastaman-FB, I figured as much. But I didn’t want to load any new ROMs. Just use the one that is already there ‘rooted.’ And then use utilities like ‘app2sd’ to manage as many applications as possible, without any clever stuff like ‘ROM replacements.’ Also wanted to be able to do a ‘complete backup of everything;’ which – I believe – rooting will allow me to do? So, if I keep the same ROM that currently works with HTC Sync, it should all be O.K. – because I’ve changed nothing but the security??

first off, you don't need ROOT for using applications (utilities as you put it) like apps2SD...this is just a standard app from the market, and as far as I remember being rooted means nothing to this app.

Rooting allows you to use custom ROMS with whats called "a2sd" which is scripting which tricks the phone into believing a partition on the memory card is actually the phones internal.

We all suggest to root and use a custom rom as this will far maximise the potential for memory saving....just running an apps2sd app or using the trick for unrooted phones to force install's to memory cards (if an app allows that) still wont save you a great deal.

now to your second point about the stock htc sense rom...if you root you can install a HTC Sense ROM, that has the a2sd script in it like I mentioned above...this will full fill the need for space saving, as well as functioning EXACTLY like the stock HTC Sense rom you currently have (As it IS the stock HTC rom, its just had the script added to it) so it will function perfectly with HTC sync....I know, because I used to use the same rom and it synced perfectly, not that I used HTC sync often as it was really a crappy piece of software that to me wasn't needed.
Thanks for the reply deanshep85. You know Australians are posting to this site with their tongues in cheek as ‘rooting’ in Australia is slang for ‘going the full nasty.’ Anywaze.. My concern about loading ROMs and such is that I really just want to leave my phone ‘as is.’ But have super user rights on it. Don’t want to change anything on it – for the moment – and gradually play with removing and adding apps and such. Won’t loading a ROM mean that the phone’s current state – that I want unchanged – will be set back to default?
From what I read, there are apps (utilities) that – as long as you have su rights – can manage moving applications to and from the sdcard.

Also deanshep85, why is HTC Sync a “Crappy piece of software?” Is there something much better that will allow my HTC Desire to sync with OUTLOOK?
