My Droid deleted ALL of my texts AGAIN...

Mine just did this to me for the 3rd time... this glitch is becoming extremely annyoing... howcan a phone that claims to be able to do it all have a hard time with saving old text messages... this is ridiculous..

My phones done this twice in the past 2 day, both time have been since i installed 2.1 gallery so i just uninstalled that but i doubt that was doin it

My phone does this all the time.. really fuking annoying.. it just randomly deletes all my threads..

just to make it clear:

-no 3rd party app being used, stock messaging app doing this.. has nothing to do with reaching limit capacity.. all text messaging threads are being deleted

EVERYBODY WHO IS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THEIR DROID RANDOMLY DELETING ALL OF THEIR TEXT MESSAGES (Even locked ones).

I have had this problem numerous times in the past. I bought my droid the week it was released by Motorola and have been using the stock messaging app as well as Handcent for a period of 1 month. I discovered the culprit to this problem is either an "Antivirus" application, or something similar, or a task manager such as "Advanced Task Killer", "Advanced Task Manager", "Task Panel, etc. . When the total number of text messages reaches a certain number, the task killer or antivirus software will attempt to help you by clearing up space.

I know many will wonder what to substitute these apps with. I have discovered that my phone functions normally, it does not slow down or even suffer from lag, without my task manager or my antivirus software. You can search this Forum for other threads about whether or not task managers are needed, I will not discuss that here as it is off topic.

I hope this help!:)

I have neither a task manager, killer, or antivirus app. and mines done it 3 times..

I'm also having this problem and it's very irritating. I don't want to use Handcent or any other third-party messaging app. They all look like crap and looks are very important to me in an app.

Google, Verizon, or Motorola needs to address this problem.

i have neither of those as well.....
Hmm, I'm sorry, but i dont think i can help. I found that as soon as I uninstalled those apps, my messaging stopped deleting my texts. I'm surprised this issue hasn't been resolved yet. I really don't know what to tell you as there is no way to take it back to a Verizon store because they simply blame it on a human error and there is almost no way to replicate the deleting.

I've reached my third time of this. It is completely random. The first time it happened my phone was barebones...no added software. This is crap and they seriously need to address it.

Ok you guys up there were right, I had none of the software I previously mentioned and this problem still occured. I believe it is because text messages are stored in RAM on the Droid, and Android, which is Lunix based, takes care of memory itself. It may be deleting the messages when they are taking up too much space; I've noticed that my phone deletes messages when the counter is up around 900 total messages. Once again, I could be wrong, so if you guys could respond to my post that would be much appreciated.

I dont have any proof of this, but i beleive you're right JAWNPIECE, I think its deleting the messages to create more usable memory. This never happened to me before i started using auto memory killer. Although i do not beleive it is this product or any other task killer's fault directly, i do think they may contribute. And even without a task killer, android/linux is closing apps to make room for more memory all the time. If texts are saved internally or in RAM somehow, then i beleive this is a feasible conclusion. I do not have a solution though.

well for those who do not have a task killer or anything like that...

i haven't had any trouble since 2.1 came out.

but i was wondering what everyone's limit per conversation are. i have mine set at 200 and 20 for multimedia and i didn't know if somewhere the messaging app has a memory allocation limitation. so even if it set at 200 per convo and it breaks the memory allocation it would crash.
if that makes sense

Really? And you think the stock messenging app looks good?? To each their own, I guess.

I know it doesn't solve the problem, but after I had my delete all my texts for the second time, I installed SMS Backup & Restore from the market (as mentioned earlier). The newest version allows for automatic backups of your text messages. I have it set up for daily backups of my text messages.

Although, after I installed the app, I haven't had my phone randomly delete all my texts either. The last instance of this was back in December.

I had mine get deleted just the other day. On 2.1 and using Handcent for all SMS. I don't even open the stock app ever.

It's happened to me about 4 times since November. Very random. This time I had all my texts and I sent another one and then boom, they were all gone. It's almost like it happens when you reach a certain text number level. As though the phone can only store so many text messages or threads and once you reach that max, instead of simply deleting the older ones, it deletes everything...Not sure though....Everytime mine have been deleted there have been a ton of texts/threads on the phone, so thats the reason for my theory.

Is anyone using Phone Fusion Voicemail? I feel like this is contributing to my deletions because it occurs often when i check my texts after receiving a voicemail.

I'm using MyBackup Pro to save my texts automatically, nightly. Unfortunately you have to buy an app so your phone doesn't sabotage your inbox.

had the same thing happened, 2 weeks ago, a couple of days after i installed 2.1!!

SO Freaking annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

glad to see it didn't happen to me only!

I bought my wife the Motorola Backflip through AT&T the day they came out on 3/7/2010. After 2-3 weeks, her texting locked up. She restarted the phone and all texts were gone. Thinking it was just a fluke, we ignored it. Then about 3 weeks later, it happened again. Today is the 3rd time and now she hates the phone.

She was texting with a friend and hit send. She gets a message back saying that the text could not be delivered. So she goes back into her texts and there is nothing there. She likes to keep running conversations with some people and leaves stuff there to go back to later...so much for doing that.

I haven't found any forum articles like this for the backflip or AT&T yet, but it appears to be an issue with the android OS in general, not specific to a phone or carrier.

It really is ridiculous. Backing up messages to have to restore later seems likes a pain and it's extra work you shouldn't have to do. I have an iphone and she almost bought one too, but decided on the backflip after seeing the cool commercials. Now she's regretting it and looking for someone to trade an iphone for her backflip.

use Handcent, and have since day 1 - literally - not had this issue. Also have ATK and Antivirus installed.

I use MyBackup Pro to backup data just in case.. but this has not been an issue.

seems more people using the "stock" sms app mention this issue.

I have this problem now ever since I updated to 2.1. Twice in about a weeks time all my messages just randomly deleted themselves. I hope they fix this soon

Ugh, happened out of nowhere for the first time a few weeks ago. First time ever since November. Maybe I did reach a memory limit Whatever the case, I'm pissed and now I'm running SMS Backup & Restore. Freebie and I have it backup once per day at 9am:

My droid deletes all my text messages randomly. I've had it for 2 1/2+ months and it has done it twice, leading me to believe that it happens every month, regularly, because it always happens at the beginning of the month. The last time it happened, I brought it to the Verizon store but all they do is blame the consumer for any faults with software because Android is open source. Is there a way to get my texts back and how can I solve this problem? Is there an app that deletes text messages every month or so because of a hidden setting? Is there a solution to this problem without reformatting (I have my contacts, calendar, and a bunch of other stuff on my phone and also apps and I don't wanna delete anything).

i have the same exact problem and its been happening to me since i got the phone, each time i've been trying multiple things to try to fix it. What i noticed helpe for me atleast is change the limit to a WAY lower number.. I used to have it at 1000 or something crazy, and it would always delete everything around 300-400 texts in a single thread. So i lowered it to 250 and i've been good for months, so it may have something to do with the limit. i been trying to increase it by 10's to see how far i can take it before it dumps all my texts. i'm at 280 right now. So we'll see, other than that just try lowering the limit and you should be good, havent delete my inbox in a long time, so i know this has atleast helped me, give it a try..

Mines at like 230 and its still doing it. So either it doesn't matter and its going to glitch and delete anyways, or it isn't really designed to go past the factory settings of 200
