My Droid deleted ALL of my texts AGAIN...

:/

I wondered what limits y'all were talking about. Yeah, in the original android messaging app, the setting was set to "delete old messages as limits are reached", even though I use Handcent. I unchecked that and will see if it happens once I get a ton of texts racked up again.

I have had my AT&T motorola Backflit ANDROID for 2 months now. You all are lucky to only have this issue one or 4 times. I am having it between 1 and 3 times a day.. I have called warrenty twice now, they are sending me out a third phone as i type this.. how do u change the max settings on the texting. i wont even get into how anoying it is to have texts deleted or force close as we all feel the same.....So, how do i change the setting and has anyone found a better text app.

my Droid is not rooted and I use the stock messaging app. For the first time it happened yesterday... all messages gone. Ugh. No clue what caused that to happen.

anyone know the steps to lowering the limit? I have researched how to but cant find any info on the AT&T Backflip.... HELP!!!! please

My Droid has done this 4 times now. The first 2 times it was a "WTF" moment, and I just brushed it off as a fluke. The 3rd time was 2 weeks ago. I was in Detroit with some friends and it happened. I chalked it up to being out of town and maybe something with using different towers made it lose its mind. Forth time was tonight. My phone beeped telling me I had a new text. I read it, replied to it, then BAM! they were all gone.

Let me ask something of you all. Are you all on standard 2.1, or are you rooted? Would being rooted get rid of this? I've lost countless photos and phone numbers due to this issue, and it's really starting to upset me.

I mean, if it's deleting them to clear up some memory on the handset, that's fine. At least it could give you a pop-up letting you know that it's going to be doing so. That would at least give me a chance to save some photos and contacts...

i decided to be a follower of most and downloaded the handcent text.. its working great, I have gone from 2 and 3 times a day with the issue to NONE. I advise you all to use the Handcent app It does seem to be working....

i have the same exact problem and its been happening to me since i got the phone, each time i've been trying multiple things to try to fix it. What i noticed helpe for me atleast is change the limit to a WAY lower number.. I used to have it at 1000 or something crazy, and it would always delete everything around 300-400 texts in a single thread. So i lowered it to 250 and i've been good for months, so it may have something to do with the limit. i been trying to increase it by 10's to see how far i can take it before it dumps all my texts. i'm at 280 right now. So we'll see, other than that just try lowering the limit and you should be good, havent delete my inbox in a long time, so i know this has atleast helped me, give it a try..

the amount of messages per thread isnt the problem. i had one thread up to around 1100 before it randomly deleted them all.

This happened to me for the first this this last friday 6/18, I do not use hancent, I do not have a back-up, I don't use my task killer unless I am low on battery which is hardly ever, and I have the delete old message turned off. I can't believe that Verizon calls it a 'user error' which I had someone in the store say it to me. I asked them, "How is it my fault that all my text are deleted?!? This is nothing that I did! Why would I be here if it was my fault?"

Is there anything to do about getting them back?
I do not want to pay anything or much at all.

I've had this problem too! Just recently though since my first droid was smashed by a 45 pound plate. The new one is perfect then goes nuts and deletes all my messages even the locked ones. Which i had a protected informants information on and booom deleted...shit. Im a cop so that was bad news for me :)

mine deleted all my text messages last thursday.

first time it has happened to me.

using the stock messaging app

for some reason i don't think it has something to do with the limit. i was up to 600 something in a single thread.

i had it set to not delete any messages

Maybe not necessarily a limit, but the sheer amount of info that's being saved and stored. I've had three Droids so far and never experienced this issue, though I don't keep huge amounts of txts "lying around" as it seems to be the case with most of, if not all, everyone in this thread. What's the point?
