My Evo Review

My touch pro 2 is like that you have to hit the top button. Or I think you can open the keyboard but I'll be used to hitting the top button. I just thing the EVO's is on the right as to my TP2 is on the left. And the volume rocker will be on the opposite side too. But I'll get used to it. I can't wait to get this phone.

I think this is the way it should be, especially if your going to pocket it. Although I think Apple got it right by having a recessed button.

great review. especially since i'm in an area just on the border of 4G, now I know I'll be adding that 4G widget that comes with it.

IMO the lack of any kind of hard button (s) or a recessed one is a major miss. Expecially on a phone this sized there really needs to be more than one way to wake it up. I could live with it if were assured the notifcation light stayed lit for more than 5 min. Still waiting word on that aspect. Can someone please try 'missed reminders' and see???

thanks

mike

People need to back off the 4g thing. Of course service will be spotty/buggy until its all worked out. That could take some time. 3G sucked for a long time until it was worked out, now its mostly fantastic.

So next time you are standing somewhere and you're getting 1Mbit down with your 4G and your AT&T iphone friend is beside you laughing, remind him that he has no 4G, his 3G probably isnt working and once you punch him in the face he wont be able to call an wambulance because the call will drop. ;)

The notification light stays on for exactly 5 minutes. I can not find a way to change the setting.

Ok guys I have a little more info on the phone. I have got Swype up and running. It runs great, but with the keyboard being so big and responsive. I just don't know if it's faster anymore.

For the gamers. I have NES and SNES Roms running. This is the best I have seen on a phone. The games are very playable.

I have handbraked videos on the phone and they are great to watch. I have been using the standard iPhone setting.

Thanks for verifying that. Could you possibly try the App 'Missed Reminder' from the market and see if that will allow it to flash for more than 300 seconds? You'll need to go into that app's settings pages..

THANKS!

Well, that's stupid. So, I miss a phone call at, well, the time of calling, and there's a notification light to notify me that I missed the call. Makes sense. But then it only would like to notify me about that missed call for five minutes? That's silly. If I missed a call/email, there are going to be many times where I won't be able to check the phone in the next five minutes. Grumble.

(Though if Missed Reminder does what I seem to understand that it does, that alleviates my worries.)

Agree. Really hope someone can install and configure Missed Reminder and let us know. It is a deal-breaker for me if not.

i dont know about yall but 4G is just as advertised, sometimes more in Houston, EVERYWHERE!!! It's so fast, faster than my computer's internet!! (I have the Overdrive)

I hit 3.3 megs on the speed test today. I was pretty happy about that.

I also forgot to mention the FM radio is excellent. I am listening to it now as I type this.

Out of curiosity, can you have, lets say google maps nav on the phone while driving and also have the phone connected to the car for music(aux)? Or is that a bit much?

Shadrap, have you seen the screen on the HTC Incredible? I've been trying to find some one who can give me a comparison. The Incredible screen fits it's name, and I'm hoping the EVO has a great screen on it too. If the screen is washed out or less then stellar I might jump ship to the Incredible :\ Dunno.

nice review, it really helps us get our fix for the day. It will be nice to get the phone and know what it is truly capable of.

Yes, and it even works with the voice guidance over your speaker system.

I have played with the Incredible and it does have a great screen. The EVO screen is so massive and beautiful you will not notice anything else. It is huge and beautiful, every time I cut the phone on I am surprised by it's size.

To me, when the screens are next to each other (Evo and Inc) the Incredible will look better. But how often would you have the screens next to each other? It's like when you go to Best Buy and all the LCD TVs are hung on the wall, you can tell which is the brightest. But usually when you take one home, it looks incredibly bright. The only reason it looked dim was because it was next to something else. Is my Toshiba really as bright as my buddy's Samsung? Doubtful, but it looks very bright to me and I have zero regrets. I'm assuming the Evo/Inc is the exact same.

I must agree with the review. Phone is awesome and I am getting it, but 4G seems to be severely lacking. I live in Austin, TX and most places that say they have 4G coverage on Clear's site do in fact not with this phone. Even areas where Clear says 'best coverage' there was no usable signal indoors and barely any outside.

Why they would want to ruin their reputation by releasing a '4G' phone when 4G sucks is beyond me. I'm all for Sprint pushing the envelope, but their 4G doesn't seem to be ready.

Wow, there's a ton of people on this forum from Austin! Maybe I'll see some of you out on 6th, just look for me and my EVO whenever I come to visit!

Good News! Missed Reminder works and will flash for either a specified amount of time or it has a forever setting. I am gonna keep the app for myself also, so thanks.

On my TP2 I am not sure how it works now I can't remember. I know trhew green light flashes and I think for missed calls continuosly and for others you can set it to never or 5 minutes I think. But my phone will pop up on the front of the screen missed call and you tap it and it shows from who. Guess I'll have to play around with this phone and I'll probably get that app too..
