My Hero survived the washing machine

Hi All,

I thought I would let you know how my Hero survived the washing machine. The waranty is obviously invalidated and there are a few scratches to the paintwork on the top corners where it bounced against the drum but everything is working fine including battery and SD card.

The washing machine was about 20 minutes into the cycle when I realised my mistake, I turned the machine off and grabbed the soaking Hero. The back, memory card, sim card were immediately removed and all were placed on a radiator. I found that condensation was forming in various places under the Hero's display so it was turned and put in numerous positions over the next few days until the condensation had gone. I left everything on the radiator for the next 5 days (hero face down) and finally re-assmebled the device, plugged it in and it's alive

I have read other methods for drying a water damaged phone on the interweb including rice and silica gel, I am not saying that this method is better than any other but drying on the radiator worked for me.

My phone was not insured so fortunately this has not turned into the costly mistake I had first feared.

Now the bigger question is did the washer clean out the dust underneath the screen? LOL

It certainly did . Some might say that this is an extreme way to get rid of the dust.

No because obviously if it was insured it wouldn't have been a costly mistake...since he would have just claimed under insurance! lol

I remember i did this to a phone ages ago, it work for about two week's but the soldier on the circuit boards started to corrode and it died in the end,
not to say that yours will tho hopefully not

you can try putting it in rice for a few days just to make sure its completely dry (the rice draws the water out)

Personally, putting it on a radiator is something I'd not do as it'd warp circuitry.

I'd have used a hairdryer.

A lot of the websites I read explicitly say not to use a hairdryer even on cold mode as it can force water deeper into the device.

That's if you blow water directly into the device...

Using a tissue to dry up some of the water and then blow air at an angle away from the battery connector would dry it pretty well.

No, because the phone is working. The phone wasn't insured, so if the washing machine had killed it, then it would have been a costly mistake.
