Water here is not bad, just very hard which is ok for Africans.......I'm bummed about my bucco though.

My local fish shop always tells me never to do a water change/clean the tank/filters etc before putting new fish in (or for up to 5 days after).
Maybe that's it?
). You have some hardy fish there(AC's can live in mud, lol), so they may well survive this, but remember this for the next time. My local fish shop always tells me never to do a water change/clean the tank/filters etc before putting new fish in (or for up to 5 days after).

Tank had been cycled already......water parameters are fine.........not really sure what it was, but the water change helped. This is it. I've had tanks over 40 years now, one of the first things I learned was to never introduce new fish to a just set up tank. You need to cycle your tank at least a month before adding fish, it's a rule that should never be broken(yes do it that long, fish stores just want to sell you more fish so they shorten that). Oh, and adding "cycle chemicals" really truly doesn't help with cycling, patience is the only way to go. Nice set up, btw, it looks great!

Hey ocnbrze,
Sorry about the delay. We do usually only guarantee live delivery since we have no control over the conditions or water parameters of peoples tanks but we'll certainly take care of you on your next order. We don't like to leave people hanging. I'm really sorry that happened, I guess the trip was just to much for them:-(

As for running two filters, try combining your soon to be leaking(I kid, I kid)canister with a quality standard filter, like an Aquaclear. For AC's they really are more than enough all by themselves. Two 500 series will work just fine for your sized tank, and you get to pick and choose what media to put in it, the list is almost endless. Up to you.
i was going to isolate the borleyi and let the albino peacock recuperate and regain control of the tank. those two pretty much dominated the tank......though the albino was way more peaceful then the borleyi.......he is the alpha male of the tank....especially now.

Great choices there! I cant wait to see this set up and running, it sounds awesomeok so an update......i just put a deposit for a 180 gal glass tank, stand and canopy. i should get it in a few weeks. i also just received my fluval fx6 from amazon.......this thing looks sweet. i can't wait to set it up!!!!!
also i ordered more fish from kgtropicals. they should be here this friday. i do plan on removing about 6 of the fish that i currently have.
the ones that are going are the red shouldered, sunshine, and blue peacock. also leaving are three africans i can't identify as i bought it under the assorted african tank and my lfs had no idea what they were.
the ones i'm getting are:
Ngara Flametail Peacock, male 3"
Taiwan Reef, male 3"
3 X Blue dolphins
bucco noto
another trout cichlid (yes another one....theses guys are baddass!!!!)
so the plan is to move the 55 into another part of my room to make way for the 180 gal tank. the 55 will be a species only breeder tank.....gonna raise red cap lethrinops....and my 180 is my show tank.
all i need now is some heaters, gravel, and more rocks.

i am also paying my LFS to deliver my tank this coming thurs.....coordinating with my friends have proved unreliable at this point.
How are the other fish doing did you get the rocks
oh yeah i did get more rock....it is all i can afford for now.......i will have to wait see how the tank is setup before i know if i need more and how much if i do.
i got rid of some of the random africans that i got.....most of them were juiced(given hormones giving them more color now....which the color soon faded)....so i'm 6 short with 7 more to take their place on weds.
when my project is finally finished( it never really is) i will give you a species list of my tank.
