I downloaded the leaked 232 ics update today. After playing with it all day, here is what I think.
No data drops...woo hoo
Smooth and fast
A lot of differences in look and feel that I have to get used to
It runs real hot...I guess that is what happens when you maintain data. Really hot.
Battery seems to drain faster, but still not sure.
All in all I like it.

Give it a couple of days to settle down before saying bad things about the battery - it should stabilize soon enough.

I love the new GMail, but I've been using it since I started using the CM9 unofficial ports for the BIONIC almost 4 months ago, so I've also gotten used to it. It really has a boatload of more features, like setting up individual notifications for each of the different labels that you create, easier access to report spam, mark stuff read, and now you can perform batch processing a ton easier....
 
two cores make it run hotter if your doing a lot with it but mine doesn't run hot very often.
As far as the battery life goes, I can't tell much difference from .904 all the way to .232 My OEM extended battery seems to run all day with 30 or 40% left at bed time
 
I'm so glad I flashed the ics leaks, 230 and now 232. data drops are non existent now and the phone runs so smooth and fast. only downside I've seen is the battery drains faster, other than that it's great.
 
I agree the battery is a little worse not too bad IMO. However, I haven't experienced heat issues though.
 
The first couple of days on an ICS leak (especially if you've never installed one before) I've noticed that there is a major run down of the battery and there is a heat issue, particularly if you have a lot of services / apps running in the background.

After a couple of days things settle down, your battery life goes back to quasi-normal, and the heat issue should be almost nonexistent, unless you are outside in the heat, or the phone is in direct sunlight, even if in an air conditioned space.
 
My major heat issue comes from running Netflix or HBO GO connected via HDMI to a big screen TV. It gets hot during a two hour movie but nothing that it's not designed to handle I guess:)
 
I agree it's a bit toasty, but I'm not afraid it'll burn up or anything.

New Gmail interface is nothing new to me -- I've had that (or something suspiciously like it) on my tablet for some time now. Initially annoying, but workable.

I like the new Email interface, though -- for my particular juggling of 5 AOL accounts and a Verizon account, it works a lot better than the last one.

Like the Smart Actions.

The "My Music" player is buggy as all hell, but is nifty the 30 or so percent of the time it actually works. (The "Play Music" player is, if anything, worse.) Anyone have a better option to recoomend?

So far my biggest gripe is the lack of a "no screen timeout" option. (Especially annoying in Car Mode. I want the damn thing on at all times during car mode.)

I also tripped on the bizarre shaky screen quirk you (apparently) get when you try to switch from driving to walking in Maps. (No idea why I even hit that -- I was just messin' around looking for changes in the apps. Had to google to figure out what was wrong with my phone because I'd thought ICS had killed it.)

But, really, I adore it. Especially because it does seem to have taken care of the data drops!

For car mode: Plug it up to a charger and enable the setting "Always on when charging". Et voila.

Mais non, monsieur. It's not possible with my particular set-up. My car cradle is on the lower left-hand corner of the windshield. (This is because: (a) I like it there; (b) it is legal there; and (c) the slope of my windshield doesn't really allow it anywhere else.) My power outlet, on the other hand, is in the center console. Reaching the charger to the cradle requires stretching the cord over the steering wheel, which is so crazy unsafe, I won't even try driving with it. On those rare occasions when I've had to charge the phone while driving, my only choice is to take it out of the cradle and let it sit in the cup holder, where I can't see it.

All of which is really beside the point -- I shouldn't HAVE to re-organize my car set-up in order to have the damn screen stay on when the Bionic is in the car cradle. (I should be able to set up a lovely little Smart Action that changes the display setting to "never sleep" when the phone is in it.) I imagine the "Never Sleep" option has been removed to save us from ourselves -- because it's a dangerous setting and can run down your battery if you're not paying attention. I say: give us the option; the people who don't want to use it won't use it. (I, on the other hand, always carry a spare battery, just in case.)
 
Just a quick info post. I got a beanbag dash mount for my original Garmin several years ago. It has a gooseneck with a ball on the end that the cradle snapped on to. It is the same size as the socket on the mobile mount for the Bionic and you can position the beanbag on the dash, center hump, cupholder, passenger seat if not in use. Very versatile and I hate sticking things to my windshield. Also easy to switch from car to car.

Ahh. Then the easiest manner would probably be a tasker / SA profile that disabled phone timeout when in car mode. Since you seem to indicate that you cannot....welp...hmm.

You're right, you should not have to mod it at all - but I do know that modders would most likely run a power cable under your center console, through the dash and come out at the bottom left of the windshield where you have it installed....

I will say this - this issue alone says to me that the leaks are not ready to be final yet....

Bought one of those and a 10 foot usb cable and ran it under the drivers seat along the front left side of the dash like John is eluding to. Works great. I also got one of those Y cables from Motorola and plugged my auxilary speaker cable into it, so now, I just pop the bionic into its dock and away I go. No extra cables, and the sound comes through the stereo.
 
Until yesterday, I had no idea the data problem with my Bionic was such a big issue. I thought my phone just sucked and that was the reason I found it on eBay for such a good price.

After spending the day out with my Blackberry-obsessed friend and having him rub my nose in the fact that his phone "just always works", I decided to do the 232 update. Everything is perfect now! My phone is fast, smooth, and the data has worked every single time I've used it.

I updated my old Droid X with a leaked update once and could never undo it, and could never get another OTA update so I was very worried with this one. I just couldn't take the data problem anymore so even if this phone is stuck this way, it was well worth it.
 
You are not stuck on .232. And, unless Motorola does something VERY VERY STUPID even those of us (including me) on .235 will not be stuck.

well, I know I'm not stuck on .232. I was referring to my Droid X, and I was stuck on a leaked version of Gingerbread at the time.
 
Sorry, I was making it clear (to everyone who reads this thread), b/c the last thing you said was "even if I am stuck".
 
Some of my observations:

Dock modes - I've noticed sometimes when I dock the phone (both car and bedside) it doesn't always register that the phone has been turned to landscape mode. SO I have to undock it and redock it real quick and then its fine. Its a nuisance, at this point, but hopefully will be fixed.

More specific to the car dock mode, I've noticed when using the ICS car dock mode, the phone will not bypass the lock screen. Its rather annoying. I have just the slider mode for unlocking the screen on. Also, when I press the home screen it goes to the regular desktop. Perhaps its made this way, but it would be better to be able to go back to the home screen of the car dock. Say, if I want to start a music program and then use navigation to get me to a destination, or use any other function for that matter, I end up having to use the drop down menu and select the car dock mode. Not a great way to handle such a function while on the road. Getting a call while in the car dock tends to suck too. If I end up answering using the answer button quickly, it will hang on the voice command function to answer or dismiss until you choose one. Worse still, when I'm done it takes me back to the desktop. Which means if I wanna get back to what I was doing, I have to use the drop down menu.

Bedside mode - the clock mode has been great as far as backlight bleed is concerned. Its dark enough to not be uncomfortable to face it while sleeping. But, its pretty hard to read the numbers. Sometimes moreso because the clock will disappear sometimes as it fades out and then fades back in elsewhere (kind of like a screensaver). I'd rather the clock move around on screen than fade out and back in. I feel like I'm out of focus when I don't see the numbers. The layout and functionality are great though. Namely, I can quickly dim the screen by touching a non-button area of the screen. It used to suck when I reached over to check a message or email in the middle of the night only to have to wait a minute for the screen to dim again.

Just about everything else has been flawless.
 
So today my phone rebooted itself for three first time on any ics build. Happened right after i put it in my car dock and tried to play some music. Not that the car dock itself was the cause, but its kinda funny it happened in the car dock since my only gripes about .232 occur in the dock modes.Still, I'm not disappointed...it used to reboot itself more often in gb.
