Help My Verizon App Ruining Phone

Has anyone else had the My Verizon app updates mess up their Charge? Maybe my problem is that I have the widget on one of my home screens?

Earlier this week I was playing with the Samsung AllShare app trying to view files from my PC on my phone. Nothing seemed to syncing and it was time to go to bed, so I just left the phone to try and sync all night. Before I went to bed, I noticed that there was a "My Verizon" update and a couple other applications that needed updates. During this time, some other processes crashed.

When I woke up and tried to use the phone, all of my widgets were gone from the homescreens and the phone was slow. I tried restarting it and several processes were crashing. Then the phone went into an endless restart loop with that creepy Droid eye. I powered down and restarted and the phone was screaming at me that the internal memory was full, which was shocking since I was using only a quarter or a third of it beforehand. I moved every app I could to the SD card, but it was still essentially full. A couple apps were gone all together. I called Verizon support and all they could recommend was factory resetting the phone (ARRGH!) I needed my phone for work so I had no choice to get it operational ASAP.

Now tonight, I was browsing the web when all of a sudden some application updates and the My Verizon widget update came along. Once again, all of my widgets are gone from the homescreen and apps are crashing left and right. I called Verizon, and they want me to factory reset again.

So has anyone else had this problem or does anyone have a better solution than resetting? I'd rather not deal with the annoyance of getting my settings back the way I want them. Maybe I should take it to a store for them to look at?

To go along with this, for how many people does the Android market look like the attached picture? I noticed this the first time my phone went nuts, but when I reset the phone, it went back to the "old" look. Now that my phone has gone nuts again, it has this "new" look.

Okay, what the hell. I just opened the market up again, and it looks like it always did. See attached. The little circular arrow sync icon is in the top bar, so hopefully this thing is healing itself.

there is an app I got for my phone, bc my verizon app wouldn't load up and kept telling me there was update so I got this app called verizon single sign on engine. it prompts you to sign into my verizon and then it works from then on, is anyone else having this problem with my verizon not loading up?

Everything was fine till I got the Verizon update. Then weird things started to happen like:

1. warnings about running out of memory
2. unable to sync my email
3. various apps "forced stop" including their own
4. unable to update apps getting a "forced stop"

I'm about to take it to the Verizon store and have them fix the whole bloody mess.

I am having the EXACT same problem. A bunch of processes force close when my charge is turned on. I was on the phone with verizon tech for an hour and we tried everything we could think of. Manually removing apps that were force closing didn't work. They would appear again after reboot. We did a factory data reset in the settings menu. Rebooted after that and all my apps were still there. Then we did a hard factory reset (by pressing Vol Down + Home + Power) and going through the android recovery menu. We wiped data from there then rebooted. All apps were STILL there. We tried one last thing, which was entering in Safe Mode and doing a factory data reset again. All apps were still there after reboot.

Other glitches I'm having: When I do a factory data reset, it brings me to the recovery menu after reboot. It's not supposed to. Apps won't install/uninstall.

Getting my replaced Charge on Tuesday.

Well crud. I just got my Charge and it is distressing to hear about these issues!

I did update some apps yesterday and *think* My Verizon was one of them.....don't remember for sure. Noticed today that it is running slower. UGHHHHHH.

If you start getting notifications of the new widget and your phone starts force closing every single process, then your phone is done for.

I was able to uninstall the updates on my phone and I disabled the automatic updates for the app as well.

Erasing the phone and starting from scratch won't erase the app, it will only restore the phone back to the stock factory state in which you'll have to update everything include the Android Market app. This will also restore the My Verizon app back to a state in which it came from the factory, thus no "eating memory for breakfast," that is... it should be that way, in theory of course. But as many people know, theory doesn't always translate into fact.

I haven't noticed any issues yet other than there was some lag when I touch an icon to open an app.i did disable the auto update feature.

Do I really need to have My Verizon?
?

The only good thing that I can see as far as having the My Verizon widget on your Android home screen is if you have UBB for your data plan. If you have Unlimited data, take it off; you don't need it. Go ahead, soak up that bandwidth!

No, but you can't uninstall it unless you gain root access to the phone.

I went to a Verizon store to see if they would look at it since their phone support was only willing to factory reset it or send me a new phone. They wouldn't even look at it once I told my story, as they were shocked the factory reset didn't work. I guess the only solutions they offer are resetting or replacing.

I've posted a message on the official Verizon Wireless Support Twitter thread about this. Hopefully this can be fixed with an update. I've told them that it's causing issues with the phone using more than normal memory and causing other apps to be forced-closed.

I am going to root the phone once I am able to read up on it. I have no idea what to do once I root. I think I need android or at least droi Charge for dummies!!!! I'm not a total technotard but not very adept either.

So wait a second... even if you reset the phone it doesn't fix it? Wow, that... that's bad.

It fixed it for a week ... and then another update came! I reset it again finally last night, and I noticed the Android market looks different now (like the second post of this thread.) There was a My Verizon application update right off the bat that was successful, and I turned off automatic updates for that app and deleted the widget, so hopefully I'm safe.

If not, Verizon will give me another phone!

I got lucky and apparently did NOT update that particular app, and haven't had any force closures, etc, thank goodness! Whew!

Any update on this issue, please? I just got the My Verizon update yesterday and am having the same issues. Thanks.

Don't do it. had to get phone replaced because of it. Phone will be frozen. All the third party apps wont work. The previous posts will give you and indication on what will happen. As soon as you get the new phone deselect auto update for the MY Verizon App, and don't open it! I just use my computer for that. I have had no problems with CLN since then.

Good Luck!
