I BROKE MY DESIRE!!! :'( :'( :'(


I dropped it on my bathroom floor, it landed screen first. Although it didn't smash, when I turn on the phone the screen is just sorta black/green.

Luckily tho, I have insurance so I can claim a new one. Speaking of which, does anyone know if they will replace with another Desire, or let me have a HD instead?

Also, thanks to titanium and the cloud, everything is backed up!!

I still could have cried my eyes out tho.


While the insurance is getting sorted out, I spent 0.99p on this bad boy to keep me going...

Someone said they might give the option to upgrade by paying a little extra. Heard of this before?

Also they will replace to something of the same value. Well I bought mine for
 
Usually they try to do a like for like if they can't get the same as before.

Ive only ever been offered the same model again though

Well, wonder if I can say that as mine was an amoled screen, and they only now have SLCD, that its not the same? Gonna try it!

Would you prefer the desire hd? What has the user experience feedback been like on the new desires?

I also take my desire everywhere I go, even the bathroom. Except when its charging!
 
Sorry to hear you broke your phone.

I Think it will all depend on who the insurance is with. if its with the network they will simply send you a like for like phone i.e a Desire. If you have independant insurance brought away from the mobile industry they may simply let you have the 410pound you originally paid to buy a replacement ... meaning you could get the hd :cool:

The 99p phone looks damn good value for money by the way :D

Could be worse... my mate ran his desire over less than 2 months after buying.. :(

It all depends on the insurance, the same guys iPhone got stolen back before the Desire got released and they replaced it with a 3GS (when 3gs had only just come out) and I don't think it cost him any extra.

Argh this reminds me again about how badly I need insurance! Still haven't gotten around to it, I'd be devastated if i broke mine (sorry, not trying to rub it in lol)

I was just going to suggest this route because it is no longer a like for like swap anymore. I would definitely bring it up if you want the HD.

Gutted for you though. :eek::( Did you have a grippy gel case on it? I'm paranoid about dropping mine as I'm naturally clumsy.

Hope the insurance sorts it fast!

Damn I feel for you Lekky!

Another fallen comrade...I reckon if you ask they could do as I broke my N95 and asked for an N96 and they agreed. Think it depends on the mood of the person on the other end a lot of the time and also the targets they have already hit etc.

my insurance gave me me a like for like desire, but let me keep the old one, which i fixed and sold on ebay :D

Ouch! Also been there. Put my Desire in a pocket that was on the lower leg of my jeans and knelt down without thinking... CRACK! I very nearly cried. :(

Luckily insurance through O2 got it sorted in less than 3 days so I was on a Samsung thing for a couple of days. Best part was that I nabbed the 4GB SD card out of the old one and kept it and when the replacement came through it was a brand new sealed one... with an extra SD card! :D
 
I use a cheap rubberized skin I got off ebay, it even covers the buttons and has a hole where the trackball is. It makes the phone significantly thicker but that thick soft rubber can absorb an impact so I'm not worried, I also have a zaggs screen protector on it.

I also have a holster for when I go out and have small or no pockets.

Really sorry to hear that. It seems like a really twisted fate that would let yours die, what with all that you give to the community. But at least you have insurance, so it's not as bad as it could have been.
 
Was locking up last night and heading off to bed when I launched my phone out of my hands about 3 ft into the air onto a hard wood floor :eek:

The first think that went through my head was this thread and the loss that Lekky has suffered! Luckilly when I picked it up and apprehensively switched it on it all seemed ok :cool:

Got a FlexiShield gel skin on so seems to be doing the trick!
