Root MyBackup Pro

On my old device (S3) I have MBP that I recently paid $4.99 for the privilege of having at my disposal. If I don't figure out how to restore my stuff, it's gonna end up in the garbage disposal

So, I did my backups for my Apps+Media on my old device and stored it to: /mnt/extSdCard (EXACTLY). I tried doing a WIFI restore between the new and old devices but that simply wasn't even close to working - after a half dozen attempts. Next I removed the micro card and placed in the new LG G3 and mounted it and tried then to change the path that MBP would use (same as the old device) but NOTHING I tried would allow it! WHAT is going on here?! Am I a total idiot? (DON'T answer that ;))

I'm really starting to think that all the hype I read and watched (YouTube) about this miracle backup tool was...simply that - hype.

Now, more info here, the S3 IS rooted and I haven't yet rooted the G3. Is THIS the problem? I don't think so but I certainly could be sorely mistaken on that. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated :) D

Hey there dk!
I'm not familiar with that app but you say you backed up your Apps+Media? Not sure what you mean by that  (apps+data?)

I think it may be an issue of the file path used on the new device:)

Reading thru a couple of those questions may help?

Hey Mikey! How goes it? Well it's THAT time again to move on to a new device and this time I chose the G3. I like the size of the screen, the 3GB memory, plus...PLUS, the glowing reviews from trillions and trillions of users :D

Yeah, I've been there on that site you have linked but man, I STILL am not getting this puppy transferring ANYTHING!

Think I'm gonna spend some time on YouTube lookig for a good, no...GREAT video teaching me how BEST (easy!) to migrate from an old device to a new one. OH YEAH. THAT means I'll HAVE to root the new device first.........:afraid:

What to do....what to do...?!?!:smokingsomb:

Ever heard of Helium app?

Yes, I've heard of that app and it also come highly recommended:)

Sorry, I wish I could help you more, but since going to the G3 myself, I started fresh.
I signed into google and all my apps auto downloaded. (wish they hadn't but I just removed the ones I didn't want)

Do you have data associated with some apps that you need?

Yes. And that's all I'm looking to do - restore the data, I can get the apps from the Play store.

Well, I've spent the last hour or so dl'g the desktop Helium for my unrooted G3. But now I'm going to see if I can figure out how now to transfer some data to my G3 ... stay tuned!

You gonna root?

Mike, can you verify the path to the external card? I think it may be

/storage/external_SD

...but not positive. I'm still running a G2 and we don't gotz no removable SD. :D

Anyway, if you could adjust the SD path in your MyBackup Pro app's settings, it may fix your problem.

Yup, on the G3 it's the same (as your G2)..
Code:
/storage/external_SD/

I would then assume dkl1's backup on his G3 should be
Code:
/storage/external_SD/MyBackupPro/backups

On the S3 however, it was slightly different.
Code:
/storage/extSDCard/

perhaps that is the issue?

Yeah I'm guessing his current path to the card is being seen as a missing directory since the nomenclature is different on the G3. Hopefully that will clear things up and allow the backup to be "seen".

Am I gonna root. LOL. Silly boy :p :D just kidding.!!
Of course! Done 1 day after I got it:D

Man, don't laugh, I've STILL got the shakes from what happened on my S3 a year or so ago!!! Soooo, it might take me a bit longer to get up the nerve! :p

Which root method did you use? Towel Root looks really tempting to me...any thoughts you'd like to share my friend?!:D

Helium will not backup or restore using ext sd card without root. cannot restore from cloud without pro version. twice I tried restoring a large game and both times the phone shut down. Its the only time my g3 shut down on me. wasn't due to tempature I was monitoring that.

try installing sd card fix after root. g3 is having problems with sd card writing some people say its due to kit kat. I have it installed and have ran into 0 problems moving things to and from ext sd card.
