Root Myn's RLS4

ok thanks so basically to change themes I need to find the zip files and flash themes and bars etc.. just like I will with the font pack? once again sorry to derail this thread temporarily, loving how the phone has no lag now :)

Yes, basically, but be careful. Myn's now has the toggle widgets in the notification panel. Themes and most mods need to be made with this in mind. If you flash something not compatible with this, it will (most likely) break.

Oh, and here is a response to the wallpaper issue. I can't test it as I've removed the sense launcher:

EDIT:

got it thanks, guys!
Akazabam, makes sense when you say to backup prior to flashing anything new. Now when you say backup, you are talking about doing a Nandroid backup correct?

Yep, you should always make a nandroid backup of your current rom the way you like it now, with everything working. From there, flash whatever you want. If it breaks, you're safe.

gave this a shot on my evo and so far im in love with the rom, I wish I had this on my moto droid. the look is great!

few quick questions, i am planning to upgrade to rls4 tomorrow

1. i always to a nandroid back up, do old nandroid back ups get written over, or do you go in and delete old back ups? if so how to tell which are old back ups?

2. Are you using the battery tweek? i installed it on my last flash, but i am curious if people think it helps.

3. Does flashing the Dark star/coconut Fonts get rid of the word wrap problem or do i need to find other fonts? if so can anyone point me in the right direction

4. what kernals are people using?

thanks

1. No, you will not overwrite old nandroid backups, but make sure you have enough space on your sd card if you're going to make several of them. Whether you're using clockwork or RA recovery, they both name them based on date/time GMT. Clockwork backups are in the clockwork directory, and RA backups are in the nandroid directory, both on the root of the sdcard. If you want to delete one, just go to whichever directory, and delete the sub-folder for that particular backup. You'll have to remember when you made each backup and which one is since they are named by date and time.

2. From what I've gathered, most people prefer to use either setcpu or a havs kernel, but the best way to figure out what works for you is to try out combinations of non-havs kernels with setcpu, havs kernels, and non-havs kernels with the battery tweak.

3. Haven't tried it, but some were saying flashing other fonts fixed it. There's also the RLS3 browser a few posts up.

4. Netarchy 4.2.1 BFS more-havs, here. Ziggy's kernel was unstable for me.

1)backups do not get written over. You can name them via ROM manager or clockwork just uses the date the backup was made.
2)No. I was on RLS3 and my battery life was excellent with the stock#10. RLS4 comes with the stock #17. I have not had a normal run with this set up yet so I cannot comment on battery life yet. But I have high expectations.
3)I don't know as I have not had a chance to play around with different font packs. I have flashed a different font(Libersans or something like that) and it did not help.
4)see #2

Alright I successfully flashed 4 more zip files, some fonts and toolbars, launcher, keyboard etc for this rom, this is fun :)

Question, do I need to clear the cache and davlik cache inbetween installing each zip file while in recovery? I did, jsut wondering if it was necessary, or if you can just clear them once, and then proceed to install all 4 files etc...?

Also what is word wrap? lol

If you're going to flash multiple zips in one recovery session, I don't see why you'd both clearing cache each time. If you boot up at all in between, though, it certainly can't hurt to clear cache again.

Word wrap is where a line of text hits the end of the screen, and "wraps" to the next line so that you don't have to scroll over.

Where can I find the dark star coconut font?

Use the link on post# 24 of this thread

Can someone tell me if you should use setcpu with this rom and the kernel it comes with? If yes, what are some recommended settings? Thanks
Also is there anywhere to download the stock htc keyboard For this rom?
And is it possible to dowload a file that will change up the look of the icons?

I will tell you this, from my experience with any other ROM/kernel, use it in its preset form for at least 2 days before you make any changes. You won't have a good idea of what sort of effects different tweaks/changes have until you develop a baseline. I will likely add a screen off profile with SetCPU at some point, though. It worked really well with the HTC kernels & Myn's previous ROMs.

cool thanks, I will do that

I used Fresh before this ROM.. I started with RLS3 and never looked back RLS4 ROCK'S. One thing I have noticed is to use the stock kernel (HTC- #17) its fast smooth and I have gotten at-least 23 hours of battery life. I use this phone as a secretary in my pocket for computer support biz and photography biz. Thanks Myn ... this should be commercially installed by Sprint. LOL

been using Myn's since the beginning with RLS1 and I'm impressed more and more with each release. He really does listen to what ppl want and asks our input on features he plans to implement. RLS4 is fast and smooth and the stock HTC kernel has surpassed my expectations after calibration. Right now I'm sitting on 20hrs with just the first charge after flashing the ROM.

The darkstar coconut font DOES fix the word wrap issue. It is a nice font too. A welcome change to the liberation sans font pack I was using on RLS3.

I was surprised as to how nice it looked actually. I was so used to Comfortaa.

I actually like the new browser reflow setting. When I pinch to zoom I want the focus to be where I zoomed, not where the page reflowed and wrapped the text. If I want to reflow so I can read all the text then I can just double tap and wraps. Best of both worlds if you ask me.

You know, you are actually right. Pinch to zoom for pictures and such, double-tap for wrapped text. You can actually pinch first and it zooms in where you want, then double tap and it wraps the text in that particular spot. Much better than stock.

Is there anyway to use the keyboard from MIUI? The thing that drives me crazy about Myn's keyboard is that it moves punctuation against a word. This is a problem when I'm typing out an emoticon, for example "Good Morning :)" will end up as "Good Morning:)" unless I delete the colon, space it again, then start retyping it. Really minuscule gripe, I know, but little things like this frustrate me.

Secondly and more importantly, when going back to respell a word, the word addition feature will only account for the piece of the word I added. So if I typed out "exclude" but meant to type "except" the word "ept" will get added to the dictionary when I backspace to correct it.

This brings me to my last issue. On the MIUI keyboard if I type an unknown word then accept it from the bar, it will say "tap again to add to dictionary." This way I'm not adding all sorts of uncommon words that I just wanted to use once and not have it autocorrect to at a later time.

I would keep using MIUI but I for some reason have terrible data service slowness with it. I have to admit the style and animations along with the keyboard made it coolest ROM I've used to date, but the functional issues with sms/mms/ringtones and service is bringing me back to Myn's.

Everyone seems pretty satisfied with RLS4 so I'm gonna give it a go.

If anyone has a better suggestion on a non-Swype, no-arrows keyboard that does what I want above and is black, let me know!

Thanks

I too use this darkstar font I liked stock font on rs3 but this is easier to read. After my phone being used for the past 5 hours I'm still at 83% battery even with that 5-10% initial drop. I had good luck with bfs king kernel 9 and still use it over HTC kernel 17. I also use stock HTC keyboard but the rest is myns. I use quadrant just for my own testing and found this kernel/Rom combo the fastest on my phone after cm6/turbo

Oh and I love being able to turn WiFi on and off with the notification bar, makes life a lot easier
