Root Myn's RLS4

I too use this darkstar font I liked stock font on rs3 but this is easier to read. After my phone being used for the past 5 hours I'm still at 83% battery even with that 5-10% initial drop. I had good luck with bfs king kernel 9 and still use it over HTC kernel 17. I also use stock HTC keyboard but the rest is myns. I use quadrant just for my own testing and found this kernel/Rom combo the fastest on my phone after cm6/turbo

Oh and I love being able to turn WiFi on and off with the notification bar, makes life a lot easier

Where did you get the stock htc keyboard from?
my battery life has been mediocre thinking about improving it with either setcpu. Or a different kernel any suggestions?

I just realized this, the darkstar font messes with the bold font in the mail program. Normally, unread messages are bold and read messages are not. Now, all of them are bold with the only distinction being the little green indicator off to the left. I am either back to the Liberation font or going to try Comfortaa. Too bad, it looks good.

Myn's sounds like the next ROM I'm going to try. Currently on my first non stock rom, the latest fresh. That being said...

Great point and it probably deserves its own thread. I would really love and make use of this feature. There are so many words that I'll temporarily use that I don't want to add to the dictionary. I don't enjoy editing my dictionary because I don't do it often enough. Too much stuff ends up in there accidentally.

I'm loving myn's ROM, the battery life seemed to have gotten much better the 2nd charge. Not to mention the ROM is completely smooth, everything from the animations, to the expanded internal. Couldn't be happier. I wish it gave the option to be able to view the homepage in landscape and then I'd be set.

Cool o noticed the battery wear was better towards the end of the day, ill see how she does tommorrow, I agree its smooth for sure

Having trouble finding a good keyboard for me, the stock one on myn's is fine except that the black kills me, for some reason I cant see anyting on it, and my typing is terrible with it. I liked the stock sense one that came with the phone, anyone got a link for that keyboard?

I like the multi touch keyboards but I can't do without the directional arrows, is there any multi touch keyboards with those arrows??
Thanks!!!

completely seperate question, whats the easiest way to flash a zip file? Is it just using quick boot to go to recovery and then doing it there and rebooting? Or is there a faster way?

Wow! Just flashed this ROM and I cant believe the speed! And how nice is it to not have to reload everything, all my settings and apps stayed intact except for my font. I reflashed comfortaa as the stock font is just a little too thin/small for me. I'm truly amazed at how much faster my pages load now though, hoping battery life works out too.

You can open ROM Manager and choose "Install a ROM from SD" card, then choose the .zip file from the list (it is showing the files on your SD card). It will give you the option to backup and wipe caches as well. You can use that menu/option to flash font packs, themes, kernels, and such, so it isn't just for ROMs.

Luigi, check in your apps drawer and there will be something called "warm updater". Get it set up and there will be a couple of keyboards in there as well as some other stuff. Yo can download from there but don't flash from the updater if you use clockworkmod.

I went to add ons and themes, but it said no updates available, what do I need to do specifically in there ? Thanks !

From the myn's Warm FAQ:

Q: How come there are no addons or themes available in WarmUpdater?
A: You first must configure an Addon/Theme server. Do this by going to: menu | configuration | Addon/Theme Update Settings | Manage Addon/Theme Servers | Menu | Update Featured Addon/Theme Servers" Then check for Addons and themes and there should be a list presented.

@munnarg what do you mean by calibration exactky?

After flashing a new kernel or rom, you charge the battery to 100% then let it run all the way down until the phone can't boot up anymore. From there you charge to 100%, boot into recovery and wipe battery stats, then use as normal. I also do a top up when the battery drops to about 88% and that seems to stop that fast 10% drop.

I don't see that 10% drop with this ROM anymore. It comes off the charger at 100% and stays there for a coupla hours if I don't touch the phone. The phone while sleeping uses basically no power.....

I had been running RLS3 and flashed to RS4, but I found RLS4 to be bit slower (more lag) and not as great on battery life as RLS3. I switched back to RLS3. I realize I am in the monitory, so I will most likely try RLS4 again in a few days.

Thansk I will do this tonight, assuming that you dont have to do it immedaitely after installing the rom....Cuz I already have done regualr charging the past few days without letting it run way down.

So I tried to flash the zip files striaght from warm updater (it gave me the option, and I had already backed up so I figured why not) and it rebooted to the black screen with an android guy and a yellow triangle with an excalmation point inside, had to do a battery pull, but everythign seems fine now. Thanks for everyone's help on here, learning as I go :)

hmm now I tried to do it through quick boot, booted into recovery but couldnt find the zip files (for the 2 keyboards I got from the warm updater) Then I decided to just reboot, since I couldnt find the files. Well when I tried to reboot it got stuck on a screen with a little white bin that had an orange arrow coming out of it, an an android guy... gunna battery pull again.
Would love to figure out how I can actually install these keyboards :)

Oh and what is the extra internal memory that people are talking about?

Oh also I tried through Rom manager but I couldn't find the files that I downloaded from warm updater, but i had done a backup through Rom manager before and it asked me something about clockwork mod before it let me backup , I think it was asking to install it... so I let it do its thing , I wonder if that has contributed my problems...
On a separate note, for some reason the only lag I get on this Rom is bad keyboard lag when typing online (like right now on this forum )

After playing around with this rom for a while the battery life is still so so, it lasts for maybe 12-14 hrs before desperately needing a charge. I noticed once that when I tried to make a call the screen would flicker between being blank and showing the outbound caller id. Only happened once so I wont say to much about it. But overall this rom seems to be ok. Though, I wouldn't mind seeing a small update to this ROM just to smooth things out.

I used rom manager to download rs4. It has an option for the HTC keyboard there is a link for it too in his xda forum. I use setcpu and kings kernel9 for fantastic battery life

Is there anyway to use the keyboard from MIUI? The thing that drives me crazy about Myn's keyboard is that it moves punctuation against a word. This is a problem when I'm typing out an emoticon, for example "Good Morning :)" will end up as "Good Morning:)" unless I delete the colon, space it again, then start retyping it. Really minuscule gripe, I know, but little things like this frustrate me.

Secondly and more importantly, when going back to respell a word, the word addition feature will only account for the piece of the word I added. So if I typed out "exclude" but meant to type "except" the word "ept" will get added to the dictionary when I backspace to correct it.

This brings me to my last issue. On the MIUI keyboard if I type an unknown word then accept it from the bar, it will say "tap again to add to dictionary." This way I'm not adding all sorts of uncommon words that I just wanted to use once and not have it autocorrect to at a later time.

I would keep using MIUI but I for some reason have terrible data service slowness with it. I have to admit the style and animations along with the keyboard made it coolest ROM I've used to date, but the functional issues with sms/mms/ringtones and service is bringing me back to Myn's.

Everyone seems pretty satisfied with RLS4 so I'm gonna give it a go.

If anyone has a better suggestion on a non-Swype, no-arrows keyboard that does what I want above and is black, let me know!

Thanks

Ok so I noticed all of these are resolved except the "tap-again to add to dictionary" and just figured out a security reason for this.

I've only noticed it in handcent so far but it saved my password (for the handcent login) to the dictionary. It's more of an issue with handcent not telling the keyboard that the user is entering a password in the sense that Gmail or Facebook would.

Also, I don't understand how any one can tolerate the arrows on the keyboard. I guess I'm not super accurate because I fat-finger them constantly and send the cursor and letters all over the place when typing really fast.

Another gripe: Why is "it's" not a word in the dictionary and why can it not be added? I always have to backspace into the word, add the apostrophe, then "s." Note that it's not the capitalized version but the lower case. If you can't tell I'm super picky/anal/OCD on the keyboard and these little things just elude me with why they exist.

I'm telling you, the keyboard on MIUI is amazing and coming to this thing is the reason all these annoyances to me are sticking out like a sore thumb.

I guess I'll stop being lazy and start trying out other keyboards. This one just isn't for me. In any event, the ROM itself is very quick and solid; I'm gonna stick with it until MIUI gets all the stability issues ironed out out.
