i have sucessfully rooted my 100% stock fascinate running Di01 using this meathod here: http://androidforums.com/fascinate-...-rooting-fascinate-regardless-os-version.html

Im looking at putting Froyo on my phone from this thread: http://androidforums.com/fascinate-all-things-root/269573-how-install-dl30-aka-froyo.html
but im seeing some ppl are having issues with sync, backing up contacts, and some other small things.

not sure if i wanna go through with this quite yet, so i mite wait it out until all the little bugs are worked out.

before 2.2 came out i saw threads on how to put DJ05 and DL09 onto the fascinate. i was going to do this earlier, but had the wrong version of Odin, and nothing would send to the phone...now i have the correct Odin for the phone, but i cannot find these updates any longer. tried looking for them in search forums option, but no luck. so if someone could link them that would be great.

i heard either of these will fix the GPS, i use GPS alot, does one work better? also just in general [not just GPS wise], if one works better, which one would that be? [youcan vote in my poll, so comments are not being junked up in this thread on debating/fighting over which is better]

my biggest concern with changing up my phone after i choose whether i want DJ or DL is that when i do this update, i want to change everything. i want to add a ROM, the kernal, and put a theme on it. in what order should i be changing things? i know the theme goes on last because it depends if you put on DJ05 or DL09...but ROM or kernal first?

when i look at ROMs i see ppl asking if it deodoxide [sp?] what is that?
and as for kernals, im looking for something overclocked nothing crazy, but an improvement. also would like it to be under volted for when at idle. what are my options? do all ROMs have themes built in? or is there any ROMs available without a theme, as i would like to find my own theme, i personally like.

lastly, i always see "make sure to make a nandroid back up" when doing anything to the phone on the forums here. where do i do that? is nandroid an app i DL in the market? is it something/somewhere already built in stock on the phone? icannot seem to find any info on this anywhere? so if someone could help me out here, it would be greatly appreciated, im really lost on alot of this!

It does not matter if you are on DJ05 or DL09 as they only thing that will be kept after you go to 2.2 is the radio. It also does not matter which one you are on. There are no kernels per se for 2.2 yet, The zImage is in the ROM zip so thats it. So basically all you do is wipe it, install the rom whichever one you want [I use superclean but there are others] and then flash the so called new.cwm zip and reboot and enjoy

well, i mentioned, i was thinking about doing 2.2.
but backed down untill all the little bugs i read about are 100% fixed
i think i read about contacts and other things not syncing correctly.

so i just want to either go with DJ05 or DL09 for right now.
just not sure what one is better. been hearing DJ05 last month..

so im thinking i will just update to DJ05. but i cannot find the thread on where to get it and how to install it anymore...

Try this,

[RELEASE] DJ05 rom, kernel, radio - xda-developers

You should install the radio through odin, and the kernel and rom from cwm.

thank you! i think i have just a few more questions before i go ahead and give this a try.

for the kernal and rom, i just stick them on the SD card and boot phone on in DL mode, right? also if i have the clockwork.tar file on my phone already from when i rooted, do i also need the CWM rom manager app from the app store? or just use the CMW in the boot to put on the rom and kernal?

before i do upgrade to DJ05 tho, how do i do the "nandroid backup" ?
...i have titanium backup, is that the same thing?

and does order matter? or can i install the rom, radio and kernal in any order?

EDIT: also, when i click on XDA link, takes me to XDA's site, then i click on the links for the DL's for DJ05...another web page pops up, about:blank, with the tan bar across the top, asking if i want to DL file. i click on DL file and then nothing happens...i dont get the pop up that says "RUN" or "SAVE"

You might need to log in on XDA for them to work, the only not working for me was the kernel link, you should be able to grab a different kernel from there and be fine.

Lets see if I can answer some of your questions. Are you saying you already can boot into Clockwork Recovery?

Nandroid backup, do this by booting into recovery, phone off and hold both up and down volume keys then power, wait until samsung logo appears and let go.

Make sure you are in green recovery, if you are go to backup and restore, then backup. That will back up everything for you.

If you already have CWM on your phone you and install roms and kernels from there, but you need to go into download mode and install the radio first. Or at least I do, not sure if that is proper procedure.

I am assuming you have Odin and have already used it.(Let me know if you haven't)

Open Odin

To get into download mode, take battery out, put back in, hold down volume button and plug phone into computer, should get a yellow icon and downloading mode, or something like that.

Now in oden you should see your phone connect in there, and I think com1 will be yellow. Hit PDA and make sure it is PDA, find your radio on your computer, where ever you have it saved, click on it and hit start.

This should take a few minutes then it will say success or something to that matter and be green at the top middleish. Your phone should reboot, now boot into recovery again, wipe data and cache, this is going to make you lose your apps, make sure to back them up if you care.

Then install zip from sd card, choose zip from sd card then install your rom and kernel, then reboot. You should be good to go, sorry if any of this confused you, a little busy at work and not enough time to walk you through it a little better.

Feel free to ask any questions, myself and others much more talented will gladly help you out.
