Naked or case?

Using protection?

After deliberation I decided to go naked as well, just a front screen protector. Some of the pockets of my pants are pretty tight, I don't want to make me EVO bigger than it already is. I'll either use a SGP Steinheil Crystal Clear screen protector or Phantom Skinz.

My new current thought is that I shall go naked with a phantomskinz screen protector. Even if the screen is scratch proof, it's just not worth the risk. I will have to order as soon as it's available, because I'd prefer to apply it before ever touching the screen.

After messing with my brother's Droid (with the Zagg Invisible Shield on it), I've changed my mind from completely naked to just one of their screen protectors.

Same sensitivity, and didn't show fingerprints or facial oils at all. Pretty sweet. Was a bit tackier than naked glass, but not enough to go unprotected. I'm VERY careful with my iPhone (gets its own pocket with nothing else in it), and it still has scratches. Not interested in getting a case since dirt always finds a way in there, and then just grinds between the case and the phone, scratching things worse.

It's classy, but I couldn't imagine having to open the thing every time I wanted to grab my phone--I'm constantly getting it out of or putting it back into my pocket.

Again, though... classy *_*.

I've read great things about Steinheil Crystal and Steiheil Anti-fingerprint screen protectors. People who have tried them swear they are the best. In fact, so far...I've yet to read where anyone tried them and found they liked another product better. The trick is finding people who have actually tried them. So far, they are not showing protection for the EVO 4G....so I may start off with another...probably phantom skinz based on what I've read here. It sounds like a cool solution might be Invisishield for the back...and Steinheil or phantom skinz for the front. I'm the type that rushes around...always a bit behind....like to grab and go...putting phones in my front pocket. So...this being my first smart phone...I want to err on the side of caution. Nice reading everyone's opinion! :D

I've had cases like this before, and it's no extra effort to open the phone. While you're getting it out of your pocket, you just insert a finger under the front cover and it flips open.

Yeah but do you keep that whole huge case in your pocket? A leather case like that will almost double the thickness of the whole thing. Way too big unless I'm wearing really baggy jeans. Their thin leather pouch is probably the only thing I would get from that place. The pouch that the Pre came with was exactly what I always wanted for a phone--protection without bulk. Just a soft pouch that won't take up my whole pocket.

Screen protector and an Otterbox Commuter case whenever they make one for it

I just checked out the otterbox cases...they look pretty cool! It looks like they add only a little to the overall size and offer great protection. I'm just not sure...since the EVO will be a larger phone from the start.

I ordered the Clarivue Ultra Clear screen protector today. It said it was backordered but as soon as I added it to the cart it said "In Stock" so I don't know how long it'll take to get here. I was torn between the Ultra Clear and Anti-Glare. I have a different brand of anti-glare for my iPod Touch and while it's good for glare and keeping fingerprints away, the screen is a little frosty. I want to experience all 4.3" of EVO screen goodness so I decided on the Ultra Clear. Now that I made a (small) financial commitment there's no turning back :p

Mine will be exactly how I sleep at night...

Well, you're all set... :p

Haha, that's hilarious! But I have to ask you cluck....have you ever tried sleeping in a thong? I can assure you that it is NOT comfortable! :p

Can't say I've tried it.....

...this week.

For reals though, I tried the ZAGG Invisible Shield on my POS Instinct and it started peeling fairly quickly. I might give the Phantom Skins a shot on my EVO, but if the history has taught me anything, I'll probably end up naked :p

LOL, no matter what week you try it, it sucks!

I never worried about screen protectors until I got my Pre but the Zagg (or anything for that matter) was horrible to deal with because of all of the curves on the phone. I took it off after less than an hour and threw it away. Yes, I know, I have no patience! I'm hoping that it will be a lot easier on the Evo. I plan on getting a Ghost Armor because it is supposed to be almost if not as good as the IS and it doesn't have the orange peel effect. I have bought cases for my last 4 phones, but don't like them for touch screens because they seem to crowd the screen. I will probably get a gel skin for the Evo and see if I can keep them both on.

I was hoping to go with Steinheil too, but they aren't making them for the EVO yet:mad:. So I might go with Ghost armor until Steinheil comes out with a protector. But It will just be a screen protector and nekkid for the rest.

A quick question though: After you put one of these screen protectors on, are they easily removed if I'm not happy with it and want to switch? TIA

For anybody who was looking for Steinheil protectors for your EVO, I got this in my mail today.

n0apostrophe: Welcome to the forums. Personally, I feel that adding such a case to the Evo or HD2 significantly worsens its look, as well as its thinness. I imagine that they offer a pretty good protection/mass ratio, however. If you're interested in all-out protection, go OtterBox. If you're careful with your phones, go with just a screen protector or nothing at all.

So these skins such as Ghost Armor that cover the entire phone..do they really cover the whole thing? Like the front and back meet on the sides or something? How do you take the battery cover off then? If they don't meet I guess they just cover front and back with no side/corner protection? That happens to be the areas that get scratched and scraped most often. Just wondering..this is the option I'm looking at since I don't like cases..especially not wanting to make this phone any bigger. Never had any sort of protection on a phone and always get some damage..but I've always owned cheap plastic Palms. Thanks.

thank you. it took 3 days to finally be able to activate my account here. i believe that there is a significant difference between an otterbox and the plastic silicon case i posted. i was more looking along the lines of protection from little scratches to the back of the phone from repeatedly setting it down. the otterbox is much too big for my taste and since the phone will either be in my pocket (tight jeans) or purse, i am more looking for protection against scruffing up the body of the phone. due to a poor experience with the invisashield, i am not a fan of the screen protectors/or body shields.
