Root nand backup problem

cexcells

Newbie
I seem to be unable to do a nand backup.

Alph Rev
BRAVO PVT4 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-0.93.001
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SVNW0101
RADIO-5.11.05.27

When I select recovery option and get to the menu

CWM-AlphaRev Recovery v2.5.1.8

There is a list of 8 options but no matter which one I select with the vol up/down and then the power button the screen just goes dark and nothing else happens. If I press the power button again the menu reappears etc. and I have to pull the battery out to reboot.

The phone is HTC Desire from Orange.

Anyone got any ideas?

Woohoo. My first root-related question that I can answer!

When in recovery, you click the trackpad to make the selections. You can use it to scroll up/down as well.

A bit confusing at first.

Awesome.

Also, if your PVT4 is erase size 40,000, you would be better with AmonRA 2.0.1 (see the rooting faq / guide here), or if its erase 20,000, flash CWM 2.5.0.7.

The reason for this is that the alpharev 2.5.0.8 is a bit buggy and unreliable

im testing rmd recovery at the moment based on amonRA 2.2.1 source
its awesome frankly
hes just made an update to do more fancy stuff but he has yet to reply back to me on whether it supports 40000 erase size

Its compiled from the 2.2.1 source. as 2.0.1 supports 40k, I would assume 2.2.1 does but you never know.

yes but its his own kernel and it looks like he knows his shit as hes adding some nice custom stuff to it.

looks like we have a new recovery maker on the scene and im so glad too as we need a GOOD alternative to cwm 2.5.0.7 and while i liked amonRA 2.0.1 it was missing some of the features that 2.5.0.7 had
this still supports amend as well as edify (unlike cwm 3.0.x)
this would be perfect for the pvt4 40000 users that want the features of cwm 2/3.x but with something that doesnt break their device

infact it would be nice for people who want the features of the latest cwm without dodgy bugs

I dont even know what the features of > 2.5.0.7 is tbh. I have been keeping an eye on that thread as it looks interesting.

What would be good is CWM backup support though so legacy backups can be restored.

i think that will be a hard one as it even compresses the backup files differently

for example, cwm 2.5.0.7 has stuff like reboot recovery, indevidual backup and restore options so you can restore only certain areas.
on his test build hes just included the latter although he did have the section based backup options before.
hes adding alignment to it and hes open to suggestion.

Cool.

2.5.0.7 only restores specifics but cant back up specifics. This is a functionality I would really like.
