Help Nandroid Restore Failed- How To Get Contacts Back

I had a failed Nandroid restore. I can see the following on my PC:
Android_Secure
boot
cache
data
nandroid.md5
recovery
system

All are .img files except for the nandroid. Is there a way to move my contacts back over to my phone? I'd appreciate any help as I have a lot of contacts. Only a handful were in Google. I'm currently running another ROM.

What happened when you tried to restore it? Did you get a specific error? Had you changed hboot versions between making the nandroid backup and trying to restore it? What recovery did you use? That looks like a clockwork (2.5.0.1?) nandroid. Are you using the same recovery?

Hello, When I try to restore I get "Error while flashing boot image". I did change hboot versions to hboot_0.76.2000. This was done after making the Nandroid. Do you think this is the problem? Is there a way to revert back to the other hboot? I was running stock before and was trying to flash to Cyanogen.

I know for a fact that that is your problem :). Depending on how long ago you flashed CM, switching to the eng bootloader became an obsolete step some time ago (starting with 6.1, I believe). Anyway, I assume you rooted with unrevoked, then downgraded to the eng bootloader? What hboot version did you have before? Do you remember?

I have a backup on the phone fro back in October. I'm sure the hboot on that is the same one I had all along. Is there a way to get the hboot version from the .img file?

I have a backup from Oct that I'm sure has the hboot that I've been using all along. Is there a way to get the version info from the.img file?

Can you give me some more information?

1) What software version did you have when you first rooted?
2) How did you fist root? Unrevoked?
3) Have you flashed any other ROMs previously?
4) Have you ever updated your radios?
5) After rooting, but before downgrading to the eng bootloader, did you ever change hboot versions?

EDIT: Wow, you post fast :). I don't think you can get the hboot version out of it. I know how to get the sw version out of it. Can you answer the above questions? That will help determine if that info is useful or not.

1. Froyo 2.2
2. First rooted in Oct
3. Never flashed a ROM before
4. Never updated radios
5. Never changed hboot until yesterday

You rooted in October? Software version 3.70.651.1 was released last month. Did you update to that at some point?

Maybe this will help. What method did you use to downgrade to the eng bootloader?

I don't remember updating. I was following instructions on Cyanogen's Wiki:
First Method (easy method)

  1. Download the Engineering SPL.
  2. Place the Engineering SPL update.zip file on the root of the SD card.
  3. Launch the ROM Manager.
  4. Choose Install ROM from SD Card.
  5. Select the above Engineering SPL update.zip by navigating to the location on your SD card where you placed it on the SD card.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  7. Once the installation has finished, select Reboot system now. Now the HTC Evo 4G's Hboot version should now be 0.76.2000.

Right, those instructions need an update. People who do that end up in this situation. Anyway, what software version did you have before this? You said 3.70.651.1. Is that what you meant? I don't see how you could have that if you never updated, never flashed a ROM, and rooted in October.

3.70.651.1 is what I have now. I rooted the phone shortly after getting it in Oct and was careful not to take any OTA updates.

Got it. How did you get that, though? Did you flash a 3.70 ROM? You tried CM, correct? What did you after that? I think we can find out though. What is your radio version? I'm curious as to how you're running 3.70 without the latest radios, if that's the case.

Someone on another forum directed me to this ROM when I was stuck in Boot. I did use CM. That was when I was trying to install Cyanogen and it wouldn't work. My current Baseband Version is 2.15.00.11.19 Is that the radio version?

Ok, but I want to know how you got 3.70 and the latest radios. What did you flash? It's not that important, but I want to track down all that you've done. Unfortunately, I can't be 100% sure what you had before. I have an educated guess, but that's all at the moment. When did you get your phone, by the way? What is the last OTA update you did before rooting?

Got it. That's exactly what I figured you flashed. Ok, so because of everything you did, you now have a different hboot, but also different radio versions (which is good for you current ROM). Because of that, I can't say exactly what hboot you had before, BUT we might be able to find out. When did you get your phone?
