Wondering if anyone has had problems with navigation app on Warp in that its appears to make phone freeze up and reboot its self automatically for no apparent reason

Ok I don’t get this.....I've had this phone coming up to a yr. in August. It’s my first "smart phone and android so have not much to compare with....recently within the month I have needed to use the navigation app (stock app) quite often due to travelling for work.......


I have been experiencing phone freeze ups and unexpected self-rebooting it does seem that it’s primarily happening when using the navigation app.
 
iram, have you considered rooting, staying stock, only flashing a faster kernel.?
Nothing changes on your phone but your recovery program, and you can have
an OC kernel. I highly recommend that for you.
 
Thank you LilBit.......On one hand I knew someone would probably recommend rooting....You know I suppose I’m a touch "old School" I actually bought the phone just to talk...What a novel idea :) gradually used it to check email and some texting....trust me u really don’t want to know how badly I type...talk about all thumbs :)

It’s only been in the past month that I have needed to use the navigation app quite often due to my current job. The phones a yr. old now. Have actually considered upgrading to the galaxy 3 but even that seems to have issues
I seem to me that there’s something going on with the NAV app and the phone. The rebooting and freezing as far as I can tell is only when I’m using navy app. If I’m not using it but keep gps on the phone appears fine.
That’s why I was wondering if there had been some sort of upgrade to Nav app and maps that may be causing the trouble and if anyone else has experienced this problem.
I know I should read more on rooting for the possibility of attempting it in the future.
 
I will consider this...this may not be proper place to ask and I'll have to spend some time reading the root forum but does rooting change any else such as the launcher or background which I have gotten used to

Rooting itself doesn't change those things. If you flash a custom rom it probably will. But you can always change them back. For instance I like the xperia home launcher no matter what rom I use.

If you do flash a custom rom as long as you make a full backup(called a nandroid) you can return your phone to EXACTLY how it was before you flashed the rom.

If you just flash a kernel like the Alien Kernel, that will not change anything you are used to. You will just have the option to run the CPU as fast as 1869 MHZ. The default speed is 1024mhz and you aren't really even overclocking until you go over 1400 MHZ as that's what the Snapdragon S2 is rated for I think.

As long as you are careful and follow the guides, I agree with Lilbit, you have nothing to lose here.
 
Nothing changes iram, You will have a program installed called super su, and a better recovery program, that's all. Your phone will still be straight stock, I rooted and stayed stock for a few months while I waited on Mr. Bobo to finish up a version of his rom.


But all you want is a faster kernel. SO, all you have to do after Root is flash one, you will still be completely straight stock. Your phone will look and BE Stock, How could it not be? If you do not flash a Rom, You wont have one, Right?

Now, go root the phone, and flash one of the kernels. Need help with the process just ask and we will take you step by step through it. It is one of the easiest things to do. No computer needed.

You can be up and running again in about ten minutes.
 
I am seriously considering this. Am starting to read of the All Things Root forum. While rooting may give certain advantages what about just doing a hard reset on phone to put it back to when I bought it. I know I would loose every thing but if I backed up all first it would just be re installing apps. Does one have more advantages over the other.
I realize you may say rooting is best but thought it may be an interesting comparison

Give the hard reset a try first Iram, you would feel more comfortable with that. ;)

A couple things. After reading your first post more closely, I had that problem on my first Warp. It was a heat problem for me. The GPS being on makes a lot of heat on it's own, and it apparently taxes the processor further making heat.

Try taking it out of the case if it's in one. Like you know those rubberized cases you can buy? Taking mine out of that solved my problem.

Back to your most recent question. Doing a factory reset can solve problems, for sure. But you are comparing apples and oranges here. A factory reset is NEVER gonna make your phone run better than the day you got it. Rooting and installing a custom ROM will.

If you want some numbers, look at it like this. A stock warp will get a benchmark score of around 4500. That's testing CPU, RAM, 3d, 2d, and input/output. With our latest ROMs and kernels that we've got here, we have been topping 8200.

That's almost doubling the speed of your phone.

If you are happy with your phone and just want navigation to work, try a factory reset and what I said about the case.

If you want to get your money's worth out of your phone like never before, look into rooting first. You don't have to do it all at once. Root your phone. Play around with it. Flash Alien Kernel. Learn to overclock and feel how much better your phone preforms. Then go all the way. Flash a custom rom and never look back!

Actually, rooting can help with the gps too, even a custom rom. Halo Jelly has the gps set to United States so it'll lock on to a signal faster, whereas my moms warp never gets to within 500 feet because of the gps configuration.

While I am seriously considering rooting. And I understand its being advocated by all of you. I have been in contact with boost technical just to make sure I have exhausted all and that its really not a phone issue…..I am under warranty until August 19 I am told.
Look I know it’s not the most advanced phone and I’ve never had an android phone before so I really can’t compare it to any others that I’ve had.
I have been generally satisfied with it...
At times over the course of the last year it has frozen on me and I have had to manually reboot It or remove battery to reboot it ….yes but it’s not often and I’ve probably had more problems with my home pc then with the phone.
It’s only been recently maybe a month that due to a new part time job that I need to travel more that I have had to use the default Navigation app which is preinstalled that I have found the phone freezing and or just rebooting on its own after about 25 to 30m minutes though sometimes even at shorter intervals
One possibility is that it’s overheating.
Called boost and they lead me through standard reset msl stuff and they recommend calling zte to possible have zte look at it for warranty.

HOWEVER and this may not be related with in the past 3 days I have notice that any text messages sent to me are taking within 2

I'm just wondering is the navigation app tied to Google Maps? I thought there was a recent maps update. Now it dosent seem that there is any way to uninstall Navigation and reinstall it but apparently Google Maps can be uninstalled and renistalled (I think) Could it be possible that if they are "tied " together that any recent updates may not be "playing " well with each other and the phone causing it to reboot?

Actually yes, since I've never seen an update for navigation but theres been tons for G-Maps. Its possible, though I've never had that problem on my own rom, I've had it on others though, so it could be either the updates not playing well or just the stock rom...
 
Update:
Too soon to say if I've solved problem but may be it was not over heating.....I went into > manage apps and deleted cache and all updates to maps app.....now for the past 2 days phone has not rebooted on its own......It still needs another week of trying before I can say I'm comfortable in that rebooting problem is solved......Is it possible that there had been some update that just wasn't "playing ": well with Warp/
