Neat ROM

parag1dubey u forgot bout me :P yes i know, i dont show up to often in here recently but i`m busy man, too much work... ;)
anyway ready for flashing... :D

ps. will Dorimanx or Siyah work with JB Neat release?

No mate only stock and Philz kernel but there are rumors that CM10 stock works too, but I cannot confirm at this moment in time.

:( bloody typical... i would have to think... " ill have a quick look on android forums for a nosy"

That leads me to think (just minutes before the screenshots!) ill go check my email.... arrrrghh

im stuck at work till ten, then 35min commute home... otherwise my download limit is 500mb a month, and i kinda need the 400mb ive got left!!!

although there is a community group who have wifi.... i may just nip up and use it again (i watched the scotland v all blacks game last weekend, so i just hope they have left the keys in the usual place :-p)

Calvo... can you let us know how you feel the battery is compared to the stock release.

I have the email, pity I'm on call and busy. I wanna flash !

Thanks salesale, you truly are the best. There are a lot of SGSII users who really appreciate your time and effort.

:(

Calvo... can you let us know how you feel the battery is compared to the stock release.

Ofcourse my friend, but I don't judge it until 2-3 days after flashing, at the very least mate

Sale close your eyes and ears mate

I've been running omega Rom 16.1 and the battery has been magnificent the last few days, and I mean magnificent considering you can't tweak things

Sale I'm sure will blow this out of the water...but if that Rom is anything to go by then we are in for an absolute treat

What I have learnt is that Google now and Google maps plus the Samsung bloat ware are the main culprits for battery consumption..

If you can live without these then you're in for a good ride.....as Doc Brown said in back to the future...."where we are going we don't need roads".....well that was lost in translation and basically he meant if you can live without Google now you're on to a winner

A personal recommendation would be to use links2sd to remove/freeze bloat ware, its a lot more straight forward than titanium....but that is just my personal opinion

I will leave the technical write up of NEAT Jelly Bean, XXLSJ, Android 4.1.2 to Hawker.

Because I have not flashed a Jelly Bean ROM until now, I'm noticing a whole host of new app's and features, such as ChatON, S Planner, etc: Not to mention the new TouchWiz launcher and widgets.

As most of you will already know, I'm a big fan of the clear, clean, crisp, stock, look and NEAT ROM XXLSJ keeps this. Very easy to read at a glance, with or without reading glasses.

Scrolling and menus are quick and smooth on this ROM. No hint of judder or lag for me. It remains to be seen what the battery life on the PhilZ_3.5 kernel, that the ROM comes bundled with, fares in battery tests as it is roughly a stock kernel with no manipulation. As far as I am aware, neither Siyah or Dorimanx are compatible with this ROM, or stock JB, and so it is a case of Hobsons Choice at the moment. However, the PhilZ kernel at least contains the, "brick bug", fix.

I had to rescan my Music on my SD card with my PowerAmp player but this was to be expected.

I cannot comment too much more as I am still finding my way around the NEAT Jelly Bean ROM.

For those of you who have tried NEAT ROM's in the past, this release will not disappoint you. For those thinking about trying it... go for it!

ironass, serious note:

Seriously, I would urge all of you though, if you like and appreciate salesale's work, please consider making a donation. It doesn't matter how much, anything would do, so that he can continue to produce quality work such as this and we do not end up losing him. Remember, apart from his time, effort and skill, it does cost him to bring us these awesome ROM's that are in effect, extending the life of our handsets and keeping us up with the latest releases. Be honest, we've all paid for cr*p app's from the Play Store that we no longer even use... how much more are the NEAT ROM's worth to you?

I mean... for God'd sake!... even Hawker's donated! ;)

Big BIG thanks to Sale who was kind enough to give me a copy of this first NEat JB offering early today.

I spent the majority of the day having a good old fiddle, and after fiddling, I had a quick look at Neat XXLSJ! :D

Firstly I want to say that compared to GB->ICS, the leap from ICS->JB is HUGE as far as what it has to offer to the user. I don't know if technically the jump is huge (it may well be even bigger) but to you the user, JB is a whole new ball game.

With the exception of one or two minor niggles (detailed later) the ROM itself up to now has been flawless. Its very slick and smooth, boots up very quickly compared to ICS. I did not expect for one minute that this leaked pre-release would be as good as this. I'm already convinced it will now become my daily runner over XWLPY. Battery is still of course an unknown quantity but I'm not too bothered at this stage.

With Sale's init.d and build.prop tweaks, I expect XXLSJ Lite to be slightly better again.

I shall now go through some of the differences I have noticed between ICS and JB. As pictures speak a thousand words.....

Only issues I have so far is:
1. Samsung Dive doesnt want to play ball for me. I've frozen loads of stuff (eg. all the Samsung cloud stuff) as its the full version, but I dont think I've frozen anything associated to this. Android Lost works fine.
2. I can't use DroidExplorer to connect. Think this is a PhilZ issue with adb.
3. Weather on lockscreen doesnt seem to update unless it is disabled/re-enabled

Will the lite version be able to be flashed nonwipe too? I was using the simplistic Rom, which is very similar (stock but with the rooted kernel already added) and just did a non wipe flash with no issues at all:-)

thanks again sasa, can't wait to see what we get in the coming months... especially with siyah kernel :-)

All my roms are No-wipe ;)

thanks

I wouldn't hold your breath on the Siyah kernel being compatible with Android 4.1.2 sntaylor. The developer, gokhanmoral, doesn't even own a SGSII anymore! :(

Our only hope is if he takes pity on us and borrows an SGSII. As for Dorimanx, I guess we're about to find out how good a dev he is, since his kernel is based on Siyah.

Same here old boy!

I may do a clean, fresh, install tomorrow to see if this helps as I just quickly flashed over NEAT LPY.

I also cannot get Root Explorer to show anything on my external_sd although PowerAmp, MX Player and Gallery have no problem.

A friend of mine has got the latest Galaxy Note 2 and is only running Android 4.1.1. :aetsch:

Basically, I'm like a kid in a sweet shop at the moment.

sadly I thought that was the case :-(

hopefully he gives us one last kernel, or at very least gives some advice for the dorimanx kernel :-)

/mnt/extSdCard :)

Thanks for the feedback mate

Cheers sale!... That'll teach me to get all excited and not go through it with a fine tooth comb.

I'm going to go through now, if I'm not too tired, and find out where CWM backup's are stored, (as I just did one and it isn't showing), and where Titanium Backup's are.... or just take my Teddy Bear and climb up the wooden hill. :goodnight:

UPDATE

CWM backup = /mnt/extSdcard/clockwork

Titanium Backup = /mnt/extSdcard/TitaniumBackup

Goodnight!

ok so kinda off topic, but.....

you are probably all aware that if you tap android version it has jelly beans you can flick across the screen.... well a while back on cm10 I could of sworn I saw a candy cane pop up too!

turns out I did ( see screen capture!) all you need to do is turn your screen on and off, think it has to be done twice, maybe three times... but it works, and I'm not crazy! spread thee word :-P

I'm waiting for lite version but thanks Hawker for very detailed info :)
Btw what about jkay? Any info will it be included soon?

Ps. Whoever she is, Kerri has really nice... eyes :D

THIS ROM IS FOOSHIN AMAZING CANT PUT MY PHONE DOWN LOL. I need the full version as I have recently purchased a 55" samsung smart tv :D

First of all, Twinn, mate, I didn't forget you, I think you deserved to be mentioned in a seperate post :) Second, Ironass,Hawker, thanks for your detailed analysis of the rom. Third but by no means the least, quite the contrary in fact, Sale, man I can't thank you enough. I am waiting for Neatrom Lite, which I will then flash. I have two questions. I am currently on Jelly Bam rom which is AOKP based. Can I flash Neatrom lite without full wipe too? Second, I keep losing mobile data connectivity randomly (even on Neatrom 3.5) and i have to toggle data on and off several times, before GPRS connects again. Could you point out what could be wrong, mate? Thank you. And enjoy everybody, the best JB ROM is here!!! :D

P.s. Where in the world is Syd? Not only will he be the acid test for this Rom but also for Philz kernel ;)

I can answer the second question, which has nothing really to do with your ROM. It boils down to one of two things...

1. Your modem

2. Your received signal quality/strength

I know you've tried a few modems in the past and so it might be time to check the quality/strength of your carriers signal in your location.

Install the Network Signal Info app from the Play Store and see what quality/strength of signal you are receiving. Maybe even try other carriers sim cards in your phone and see if their signal quality/strength is any better. it sounds as though, if you have to toggle data on and off, that you are in a marginal signal area I'm afraid.

One thing that I've been a big fan off is the Quick Controls in the stock browser which allowed me the whole screen for viewing. These were a little clunky for me in ICS but in JB they are smooth and fast.

JB stock browser, Quick Controls

There's a little tip I came across which I had never seen before, not sure if I'm repeating a well known fact here.....but if you pull the notification bar down and long press on any of the toggles, it takes you directly to the relevant settings menu

Might be old hat but if like me you've never seen it before..It's really useful

thanks again, ironass. does this mean, that the signal bars in the notification area are unreliable? My data connectivity drops even when all 5 signal bars are available. I will download this app right away. I am currently running DDLP8 modem (India Specific), the links to which you had very kindly provided (Modem+RIL).
P.S. Sale said Neatrom Lite will be available tomorrow night. Since I am in india, I am confused about the time :) How many hours does this mean I have to wait??? (This is not the same as asking for ETA :D)
