Neat ROM

I hate to say it but I've had a couple of issues with the full Neat LS. My phone has died a few times randomly, nothing but taking the battery out will turn it back on. Every time it's happened the phone has been idle. Anybody have an idea as to why this happens? Is it a kernel issue perhaps, I'm using dorminax V7.44. Betterbatterystats shows good deep sleep and relatively low cpu states.

Agreed, Philz has always worked well and so has Jeboo, had one issue that was actually SU related but thought it was Jeboo originally so switched back to Philz
 
I'm a fan of Dorminax I have to say, I could try the latest one to see if it makes a difference. My feeling was that if it was a neat issue more people would have reported it. Thanks for the replies, fantastic forum we have here!
 
OK, a strange one. On my Windows XP machine it is struggling to play back videos recorded on the phone. The audio and video go out of sync, with the audio finishing first, and the video running on for a good 5 - 10 seconds afterwards. Playback is very jerky. I have a windows 7 machine and playback is fine on that.

The windows XP machine plays back MP4 files from other locations without an issue. It is though it is struggling with movies encoded on the phone. Anyone got any ideas?

Bit more info. When playing MP4 files from other sites etc, CPU usage is around 50 to 60%. When playing the ones from the phone it is 95 - 100%.

Is it just that the phone is using HD and and the others are typically 720 and my old machine can't cope? I'm sure I've watched some of these clips on this machine before without a problem.

After having no Internet for wot seems like an eternity, downloaded & flashed new neat rom full this morning.

I did usual backups, cleared data, cache, dalvik & battery few times before running Hawkers Kernel & Rom wipes. 1st install of Neat full got stuck on yellow triangle screen & after 20mins holding power button turned it on. Restored apps & was changing settings, layout etc & phone suddenly reverted back to yellow triangle. This time couldn't get phone to start regardless of wot i tried. Re Flashed rom, fixed permissions but to no joy, same thing even without restoring apps.
It was very jumpy as well & when touching screen, responsiveness was nowhere near normal.

Bit stuck on wot to do now before attempting flashing again.

From Sales XDA thread for a clean install

Go to recovery, Select Wipe data, Wipe cache
-Go to Advance and Select Wipe dalvik cache
-Go to Mounts and storage, select Format system
-Select Install Rom from SD card
Note, first boot takes about 5-10 mins, so don't panic
Reboot device

Got to say i have never had an issue with any of the NEAT ROMS i have installed but the first boot can take a while on a clean install, if it sticks on the triangle again just try removing your battery

I've never really had major issues before. Few minor bugs that's all.

Stupid question... am I at risk of losing anything if I format system?

As far as im aware nothing that has not already gone since you run Hawkers ROM wipe

Just run the kernel wipe and try again

Ok this is what I did;
Wipe data, cache, dalvik x2
Ran Romwipe, Romnuke & Kernel wipe
Format system
Installed Neat rom full

Phone has been stuck on yellow triangle for 40mins:mad:

Try removing the battery for 30 secs or so and then reboot

If that fails i would flash the official releas via ODIN, make sure its stable then root with Philz and finally flash the Neat from CWM, the links are on post 7 in this thread

You could just flash a GB or ICS modem to JB but NOT the RIL as it is the RIL that will cause the problems. Not flashing a compatible RIL should not make a whole heap of difference to your phone. Therefore, if there was a modem that was particularly good for you in the past, give it a go after you have made a nandroid backup.

As for unlocking, the easiest method to test is by slipping another carriers sim card into your phone. If it is locked, then there are a few app's on the Play Store that claim to unlock an SGSII, not to mention that a few mobile phone shops also offer this service.

First of all, thanks for your answer.
I don't fully understand what the RIL is but I think it avoids wakelocks that drain battery but not sure if that is the advantage or not.

So, if I want to flash a UHLPH or UHLPG modem I just do it. Is that OK?

Hey folks. I see a lot of faces still knocking about. Thought id pay a visit to see what im missing. Maybe also as my phone is starting to show signs of dementia in its old age. Strange goings on i see the messaging app involving telling me the front facing cameras photos are too big to send when the main camera on full size photos work fine. Videos and pics sent to me display in thumb nails and I've had to resort to using whatsapp for these to work properly. Alarms going off and sending the phone into deep sleep meaning its doing the opposite of what its ment to. Now with 4 months left till upgrade and the possible release of an S4 imminent maybe i can update my Rom for now and see if it helps. :-)
 
So when I run Hawkers nuke file and try to install NEAT 4.1 lite or full, I get installation aborted

Cant open sdcard (sometimes emmc)/xwls8_neatrom_lite_v4.2.zip (bad)

Whats the solution?

I had jumped from 2.1 if that makes a difference. Im sure there is a step im missing, it has been a while. :S

EDIT: I read earlier that this problem was due to a bad upload from SALE but was reportedly corrected , yet for me this problem remains. Several full wipes, cache /dalvik /permissions cleared and no dice . :(

Will do although if thats the same link as the one from sales xda page then i think ive tried 3 time lite and full and no joy. Still why not persevere eh. :) My restore was from 9 months ago :D

EDIT: No joyu Twinn. Same error.
For lite I get cant open Sdcard, for full I get cant open emmc.

Tempted to try a full re root via odin for this. Deep breath.

Save what you need from Internal/External memories.

Format internal/external memories.

Factory reset phone.

Flash official Samsung, XXLS8, firmware via Odin.

Re-root.

Flash NEAT ROM.

Do NOT re-install any system backups or settings and no settings for app's.

That should keep you out of mischief for awhile. ;)

The apocalypse is in effect. Everything is being nuked bar some CWM back ups just in case.

Typically the sam mobile site is down so this mirror from the spanish firmeware is all i have. :(

Im so angry right now this is not making my day. Phone is not even activating USB storage mode now. So no restores right now. Absolutely fed up.

Yay unknown baseband.

EDIT: Thankgod i take my own advice sometimes. Phone is back to default with neat 1.2 Just a few months Rudedawg till your upgrade....phew



EDIT 2: Never being one to leave things alone...ahem Ive managed to abide by Ironass's doomsday instructions and am currently on JB with philz root. Fingers crossed NEAT will work from now on. Thanks for the help.
 
I could be the only one - but Kernel-wise, I'm having constant temperature hikes with Full and Lite Neat LS8 for the past 2 weeks... PhilZ, dorimanx, Gok's 6b4 and JeeBoo producing 42
