Root need a bit of help with replacement (warranty) evo

wife cracked her screen evo 1 (still operable)
received replacement evo today (wow that was fast placed claim yesterday, overnighted phone received it today)

Would I

Activate new evo
root evo (replacement)
install titanium backup
swap sim cards and do a restore
then whipe old phone and do unroot?

do I need to unroot and whipe or will whipe take care of both...? Just want to make sure I'm going about it the most efficient way.

unfortunately swapping sd cards and using old nandroid backups will not work. it is specific to your phone only. you still need to unroot the phone. wiping will not unroot the phone.
 
but doing a TB backup will get the rest of the stuff on there correct? I dont even remember how I rooted the phone i rooted back in the day when going from 2.1 to 2.2...im thinking of not even rooting her phone (she never uses wifi tethering) and just upgrading her to GB.
 
thanks man...just saw gingerbread 2.3 rooted version was out..worth rooting her phone to go to 2.3 rooted or just give her plain ole 2.3 non root? Don't see the need of the rooted phone for her unless the rooted version (having setcpu) for battery management and (tb) just to backup a few apps that she could always redownload is still considered to be worth it...no rom swapping or kernel changing really goes on, on her phone.
 
that is up to you. there absolutely no difference with the rooted stock ota. just so you know though you can't re-root her phone as of yet. it might be awhile before a new exploit for the new hboot is found.

oh yeah sorry about that all over the place on the forums today. if you unroot then accept the gingerbread ota then you will have to wait until an exploit is found. if you leave it at 2.2 then you are good to go.
 
thank you sir...actually just finished running unrevoked on the wifes phone...installing amonra then going to root 2.3...thanks for all your help..(im not such a noob) anymore :)
