VZW Nexus Please!!!
Hey can anyone help here? Someone asked for my help and I have reached my ADB knowledge limit and don't want to leave him/her hanging (Some names have been changed to protect the innocent
)
Any help, I'm sure, would be appreciated!

- With ADB, type the following in your computer:
Code:
adb shell
# format DATA:
# format CACHE:
# format SYSTEM:
The data and cache you do all the time I'm sure...but most people don't ever format their system. This is where you are writing all of your system files to and if your switching from ROM to ROM...you are leaving fragments and possibly other files behind. Like I said...I have had less of these problems performing this EVERY time I restore a new backup or ROM...If you want to keep data but you are moving to a new ROM...just format the system and cache.
im trying to do this now and im getting
format_root_device: cant resolve "data" and the same for system and cache
What recovery are you using? You can only do this inside SPRecovery. Clockwork Recovery does not allow these commands and that was an issue for me...but they have updated it and now you can format SYSTEM in Clockwork via menu option (no code needed).
I'm guessing that you are using Clockwork Recovery or you have not booted into SPRecovery when you try this.
Does that help?
I am using sprecovery and had it booted to that when runiing the commands
1) What version are you using? I have the most current version of SPRecovery...99.3b and I never tried these commands with 99.2b...it may not have been available with older builds.
*I'm not trying to insult you here with the questions below, but I don't know your level of adb knowledge*
2) You are not typing the # are you? That is just designed to be a place holder...I don't think that would give you the same error though...
3) I always make sure I'm at my adb.exe directory when I do anything adb related. In command prompt you MAY (don't know for sure) need to change directory to get to where your SDK tools folder is.
I have to type the following to get to mine but yours may be different based on what you named your SDK folders:
cd/
cd android/tools
I'm sorry if this is a pain...but I haven't heard of issues with this (I don't know how many people actually format system...I didn't for a long time until I read about it on a forum somewhere).
im using 99.3b and i do exactly what you said i dont type # and i navigate to the tools folder with those commands
