long story short i installed a custom rom from sd and forgot to wipe cache, etc and now my phone wont go past the boot logo. any help to get past this would be appreciated.

This is why you always make a backup so you can always revert back to your previously working state. However, the simplest thing would be for you to pull the battery, restart and hold X to go back into recovery mode, do a full wipe, and reflash the ROM.
