Root Need help badly!!!

Ok I've spent hours trying to fix my desire but no luck. What i tried to do was root my phone and after making a mess of that i've been left with a phone that has the following problems:

1. Phone is sim locked.
2. USB mass storage does not connect to computer (pc says it cant install the drivers). Micro sd is working but i cant see it on the phone but have tested in another desire and it finds it.
3. Phone wont switch itself off. Every time I turn it off, it switches itself on.

Currently as the phone is i'm running:
Firmware 2.1 - update 1
Baseband 32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2
Kernal Version 2.6.29-0cb9f166 htc-kernal@and18-2 #1
Build number 1.21.405.2 CL174215 release-keys
software number 1.21.405.2

In thew fastboot menu i have:
HBOOT-0.80.0000
RADIO-4.06.00.02_2

I hope somebody can help me to get this working as every-time I try to sort it something stops me like it needs to be rooted which would require usb connection or an RUU needs to be installed but again a usb connection is required. Any help would be greeat and in easy to follow speach as i'm finding it difficult to understand things as it is. Cheers!
 
Yes i'm on orange. I got my desire last year and made a gold card and was able to install roms but they were RUU's with the official ROMS from HTC it was just to get rid of the Orange crap on the phone then last night I thought I'd try rooting and put on Gingerbread (big mistake).

I honestly cant remember even how i started as I've spent hours trying different things but at one stage i tried unrevoked and it did nothing. I think my problems started when I tried to root with a bootloader version of 0.93 when i think I should have downgraded to 0.80
 
ok, so it looks as if the gingervillain flash was unsuccessful
it was kinda important to know what you did to try and root it as this behaviour and the way it manifested is a bt odd


if you still have your goldcard and it works (hasnt been partitioned) then you can use a pb99img.zip from shipped roms (remove the sim from the device when doing this)
Shipped ROMs
place it on your sdcard (using a card reader)
boot to bootloader (voldown + power)
click ok when it loads the image. you will see a progress bar on the right side of the phone vertically
make sure you have over 50% batter before attempting this

im not sure what caused the simlock if you have successfully flashed non orange roms before

you can permanently remove the simlock using this tool

The simlock on orange phones is a common issue, once rooted. Its always advisable to remove the sim before flashing custom roms.
 
he didnt even get the custom rom to flash judging by his software version


would you recommend he uses that tool to remove simlock then he never has to worry ?
 
I have seen simply rooting cause this issue too.

Most people just used an unlock code to fix so I see no reason why the utility wont work. Definitely worth a try.
 
ok so i upgraded to 2.2 and now the bootloader is 0.95 the sim lock has removed but it has no signal and and says that the sim card isnt allowed on the orange network.
 
Right I tried the sim unlock utility and the phone is still the same. Everything is working but it wont let me on the Orange network saying your sim does not allow a connection to this network. the actual phone is running but still have no network or usb connection and i noticed that when i switch the phone on it takes ages to boot up and the White htc splash screen flickers on and off quite a few times before it actually loads.

Any more ideas please as I can feel the anger building up inside me!! :mad:
 
Hope i get this right. I can load files onto my micro sd card and boot them using fastboot or load an RUU of windows with the phone connec ted through fastboot usb. I cant get the phone to connect for mass storage through usb so have to keep taking the micro sd out and loading files onto it using my galaxy tab or desire hd.

i'm currently trying what rastaman told me to do and using the pb99img.zip file that he told me to download. just finished that and:

holy shit its working sort of!!!

Just made a call to my girlfriend and while it connected if it wasnt on speaker phone the call cut off and said out of service on the phone. I then tried calling my mum and the call cut again and i noticed something on the screen saying radio off. does my radio need updated now its currently at 5.11.05.27 whatever that means.

Have to say a big thanks to everyone so far just need a little more help!
 
Give it a reboot. Check all other functionaility is ok. If it is, try the unlock facility again.
 
Gave it a reboot and now it has lost signal again and wont let me call or join the orange network. I'm not clued up on all this but it looks like a radio problem does it not???

hmm it does :(

theres not a way of flashing a new radio without being rooted so you may have to root again so you can flash a new radio
is SDcard access back?
 
nope still no usb functionality in windows but works fine in fastboot. The phone isn't actually sim locked it just wont go onto any network. when its sim locked it asks for a code but it isn't doing that. If i try to make a call it says out of service and if i go into settings and try to join the orange network it says its currently unavailable.

RUU's tend to fix usb bricks but in this case it seems it hasnt :/
very odd

maybe sim is borked from taking it out and in to many times?
have you put it in an old phone just to test it?
