Root Need help - panicking now!

Thanks turbohobbit - if I mess up a flash to leedroid, can I not just revert back to my nandroid backup?

LECTER - I wasn't going to do a full wipe if the phone/cache as I read that its no necessary for flashing to something like leeDroid?

Cheers guys

I wiped when I first flashed to LeeDroid from stock. Pain free with Titanium anyway and I didn't want to be doing the whole thing again a few hours later. Pretty sure I read somewhere that the Dalvik cache is wiped by the roms updater when you flash LeeDroid anyway.

So if I get leedroid I can get Gingerbread 2.3 if it comes out? Can I add it on to leedroid to update it? Do I need to get it from HTC, or from xda website etc?

Still not sure about all this goldcard business, I think I get the jist of it - if I ever need to go back to a stock o2 ROM I would need to use a goldcard? I will try and make one later I have the spare 4gb micro sd card that came with the phone..

I'm sure if HTC release gingerbread for desires, leedroid will too. Failing that I bet the hd gets it and it will be ported. If like me, you don't really like sense, you can get gingerbread now, without sense

Goldcard: Correct!

Leedroid: It's currently a FroYo (2.2) based ROM. If you want Gingerbread you will have to flash a new ROM as and when. You can either flash the new 2.3-based Leedroid ROM once it's released or you can already flash a Gingerbread ROM like Oxygen or GingerVillain. The AndroidWorld is your oyster, my friend! Regardless, thought, you'd have to download and flash a new .zip file, the ROM wouldn't just bowl up as an OTA update.

Beat me to it Dan! Yeah, I guess the thing is LeeDroid is a Sense-based ROM (i.e. HTC based rather than a pure Android ROM) so LeeDroid Gingerbread will only come out if and when HTC decide to release a sense-based / "stock" 2.3 ROM.

I am trying to make a goldcard here using this guide: How To: Create a Goldcard | TheUnlockr

I am on step 14 - but HxD won't let me paste into the hex on the removeable disk. The paste option is not available - is this because I still have my sd card in my phone set to usb mode?

I dont have an sd card reader so not sure if this way is possible?

Seems to be read only? I managed to get usb mass storage mod via recovery but it still didnt work...

Oops - looks like when you open the removeable disk dex - the default is to open as read only. I didnt untick this option when opening.

I opened it, pasted in the values and saved.

Hopefully thats it created!

OK - booted into gparted cd and had phone sd card in mass usb storage mode.

I selected the drive and *resized* it to have 1 GB free. I made this new 1 gb partition to be ext3 and the rest remained as FAT32.

I clicked apply and it worked its magic.

Rebooted windows to check the size and all my data was still there?? Shouldn't have this been deleted? Well it looks like there is 1GB missing so I'm assuming that is the ext3 partition?

ANYWAYS

I have dropped the leeroid zip onto the sd card.

Hmmm - should I go ahead with the rom flash?
Any one want to give me some instructions, as whether to wipe, and how to load the ROM?

You've come this far, no point holding back now. I do remember it being a bit of a big step, best just to do it quickly.

Reboot into recovery, choose install from.zip, select the file, confirm and then don't touch anything until it reboots into LeeDroid. This may well take some time and you will, at some point, be convinced it's failed. It takes a while to start up the first time.

When it's up run titanium and restore your apps, then go to SD & Phone Storage in settings and marvel at the free space on your phone memory.

Edited to add
You should be OK without flashing a radio, never done it myself and def. not to install LeeDroid. What version do you have now?

and DONT apply any OTA updates if your phone tells you there's 1 available, it will screw up your phone and all that work will be undone.

your radio will be fine, i have quite an old 1 now, and i'm running leedroid with no problems.

menu, settings, about phone, software. baseband version is your radio.

Settings-About Phone-Software Information

What does it say under 'Baseband Version'

Mine is 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27

If you have the same then don't worry about 'flashing a radio', just flash the ROM.

you dont have to flash radio if hes already got a froyo based radio which he does

flashing radio is far more dangerous than rooting

forget about radio and focus on rom

Now flashing the ROM - seemed to be going ok, successfully installed.
Choose to reboot and then O2 splash screen came up?
Thought the flash would get rid of that..
Heard the R2D2 noise - pretty cool!

Now its been on a screen for 10mins now - the one that says leeDroid and has the green android robot...then finally booted up! woop

I unlocked the phone and am given a choice:

Complete action using HTC Sense or launcher??

Havent chosen yet lol as I dont know the difference..

Chose HTC Sense as was dying to look at the phone layout..and...it looks the same as before?!?

All my apps are there, plus a lot of new ones.

Internal memory is only 86MB though? I partitoned 1024MB?

ok using quick system info - A2SD storage is 812 MB!

Internal storage is 81.89 MB
System storage is 27.57 MB
System cache: 38.41MB

Look ok?

If so.....what now? :)

If those are the free space figures it all look OK. Free system storage is a lot less than mine, but I'm using a fairly lean non-Sense ROM, whereas LeeDroid is Sense plus a lot of extras. So yeah, I reckon you are fine.

Now what? Play with the settings and the extra apps, and enjoy the extra space you have :)

Just wondering, I rebooted my phone again - and the O2 splash screen appeared (and the phone does a quick 'buzz' vibrate).

Takes a good while before it disappears and the leeDroid boot screen appears (r2d2 noise).

Possible to get rid of this O2 initial splash screen?

Well having rooted and installed LeeDroid I guess you don't want to run a generic RUU to debrand, then have to do it all again!

I believe there are relatively simple methods if you have S-OFF, but that's a further step and one I've not taken so far. If there's a way without S-OFF then I'm sure someone will tell us shortly. Otherwise I personally wouldn't take that step just to change a splash screen (custom partitions, yes, but only when I decide I need them).

Don't know about the splasg screen. Did you de-brand before rooting? Would have thought to be honest that by flashing a custom ROM you would have lost it so it shows how much I know.

One thing you will find with LeeDroid is that it does seem to take a while to boot up. Have tried GingerVillain (not quite ready for it yet though as I'm still finding problems when I install it) and it starts up much quicker.

With regards to internal memory I'm a little surprised as I have about 119Mb free using the same ROM, still if all your apps got to the SD partition from then space should not be an issue.

If everything works and all your apps are installed I would recommend going into recovery and creating a nandroid backup of the phone. Should you then wish to go and look at other ROM's it's very easy to get straight back to where you are now. I've now got 3 backups of different setups on my phone, I had to make notes to remind myself which backup was which and what exactly I would be restoring.
