Root Need Help PLEASE

Sucessfully rooted my phone months ago not quite sure how I pulled it off but I did lol. HAve not had any problems since I did. However now that Im trying to either change to a new rom or go back to gb ive found that after reading the rooting for dummies guides and such that I cant find the "root" folder on my phone and I have no idea where it is or how to find it. The one guide says to find your hboot number and when I do that mine says 6.16.1002. Help please!! Lost in translation and stuck in the mud unitl I find which way is up lol

The root directory of your sd card is not a folder; it's the topmost level of your sd card. So if you're trying to flash a new ROM, you would transfer the ROM onto the root directory of your sd card (not in any folders).

Root is not a folder but is the parent folder most often referred. As. / on Linux or \ onwindows

Thanks for the responses! So I need to download whatever rom to my computer and then put it on my sd card. Then go thru the other steps and I should be good?

Quick question, What recovery do you have?

??? No Clue, downloading the mikg 2.59 to computer now and going to try to install that. Ive read the guides but all the techie terms fly right over my head. Any way I can get an english version Step 1, Step 2 etc guide?? The dummies guides are great but 123 pages takes way to long to find what i need. Thanks in advance!

Ok just followed the steps one by one from the install a rom video on htcevohacks.com and as soon as i hit recovery my phone went to the red triangle and wouldnt do anything. I dont want to mess with it anymore, anyway I can just get it back to normal like a brend new phone? I do want to keep it S-Off for bloat freezer and wifi tether apps, just done playing with the rom stuff.

You have a broken recovery, a simple fix! Download this recovery to your computer, rename the file to PC36IMG.zip (it's case sensitive, so rename EXACTLY how I have it), and place it on the root directory of your sd card.

Now reboot to hboot by powering off then back on while holding volume down. Your Evo will scan for the PC36IMG.zip file and when asked to update, select "Yes". Let it do it's thing and voila, you have a new custom recovery.

Now you can follow the YouTube video on flashing a ROM.

After you've successfully installed the recovery, don't forget delete the PC36IMG.zip file from your sd card.

I'm assuming Frenchy gave you Amon-ra recovery. Best recovery out there. ;)
Correct me if I'm wrong French. :D

ok I have the recovery zip on my sd card and the mikg2.59 as well. Where do I go from here to install the mikg rom?? I tried doing recovery with the recovery zip both on and off the sd card and neither worked, just got the red triangle.

ok so now go into hboot. if you named the PC36IMG file correctly and placed it on the root of the card (no folders, just on the card), it should scan for it and see it. if you see no image or wrong image flash by then one of those two things was not done correctly. if it sees it then select yes to update. once it is done select recovery make a nandroid backup then flash mikg.

i would also read the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html. it has a switching recoveries section that you can follow step by step on getting amon ra. also it has a flashing guide as well. and a section on how to get everything setup before and after flashing.

I am getting the No Image! and No Image or wrong image! when i first get into hboot and then it asks me if i want to update?? I checked 3 times and all the files are typed correctly and on the sd card not in any folders. I also tried reading that guide but dummy doesnt describe me in this technical stuff im more just ******ed! lol

Make sure the file is named exactly PC36IMG on your computer. The .zip is there, Windows hides the extensions.
Place that file on the root of your sd card. Hboot should then see it.

I'm a bit confused. If your Evo is scanning for the PC36IMG.zip and can't find it (hence the "no image or wrong image" message), then why is it asking if you want to update? You will only be asked to update in hboot if your Evo scans for the PC36IMG.zip file and finds it.

Maybe thats the problem because when I copied and pasted from frenchys post it has .zip in it

I have no clue im soooo confused, although when i put that recovery file on the sd card along with the new rom i noticed there is another pc36img.zip on it already, do i need to delete the one from before?

You only want one PC36IMG.zip file in the root directory of your sd card at a time. So the answer to your question is yes.

OK got the recovery thing installed without any issue and deleted it off the sd card!

Based on the above post you've already successfully installed a different recovery on your Evo. All you have to do now is boot to hboot, choose recovery, choose "select zip from sd card", find the ROM you place onto the root of your sd card, and flash!

This is where I got confused. Medic doesn't need to install a recovery anymore because he's already installed Amon RA.
