If you have a 2.2.2 OS version then the bootloader is locked and you will need to use the Gingerbreak.apk.
Look in this forum at the sticky entitled "Optimus V: All Things Root Guide".
If you have a 2.2.1 version then you can use SuperOneClick v1.6.3,
Use the ShellRoot option only. Push Busybox and su with a command prompt..
You can use Gingerbreak as well. No computer is needed.
