Root Need help to un-root HTC Evo 4G

I have an HTC Evo 4G that I want to un-root. Below is the info on it.

I have tried the instructions found here ( http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html ) to try and un-root it but nothing I try works.

If I try the first option with Android Flasher it says that either my phone is unhooked or I don't have drivers installed. I know the phone is plugged into the PC because I can see everything on the sd card.

If I try the Bootloader method, I starts to work and then quits. It says something very quickly before the screen clears and it's something about an img. file.

I never get s-on and it always just stays rooted w/s-off.

I'd like to un-root so I can trade it in on a new Evo LTE.

Thanks for any help you can provide.
 
ok with bootloader, it is programmed to search for a specific file name found on the sd card. if it does not find it it will say wrong file or no file and then go to the normal bootloader menu. it does flash pretty fast. so looks like you either have not named the file correctly or it is not on the root if the sd card(not in a folder, top most level of the card).

so find out if your computer either hides or does not hide extensions.

if it hides extensions (ie .bat, .exe, or .zip are examples of extensions), then just rename the file to PC36IMG with no extra .zip at the end or the computer will rename it to PC36IMG.zip.zip which will not work.

if your computer does not hide extensions then you need to add the .zip to the end so that it is named PC36IMG.zip.

the file also needs to be on the root of the sd card which means to move the file on the sd card and not in any folder. it just needs to be on the card.

I've retried the process and now I have S-on. But, when I try to get the phone to see the new PC36IMG file, it saw it one time but did not do all of the upates etc. that I've see pics of on the web. It only indicated it found it and then was done and happy.

Now I've got S-on but am still rooted. I've tried repeatedly to re-do the PC36IMG file transfer to see if it will update properly but it simply acts like it's happy and never fully upates the file and I never get back to a stock phone.

I've tried doing it with Android Flasher but no matter what I try it always says the phone is not connected to the PC although it really is.

Any ideas??

what is your baseband(radio)?

edit: sorry missed that in your op.

well you almost unrooted. so it finds the file and you select yes to update, correct? and it does finish? can you report back with what it shows in your bootloader?

also what rom were you on before unrooting?
 
It found the file to update once , the first time, and never did a full update. It only blipped quickly and then was done.

Now, if I try to update it again it never gives me the choice of updating, it just blips quickly and appears to be done but it still hasn't updated.

During my trying to un-root, the phone had acted crazy a couple of times and I had done a restore. I did another restore and went through the whole process again and this time it all worked correctly and I'm now back to stock.

Now it's time to go shopping for a new Evo LTE.
