Root Need help turning 'S-ON' to complete unroot

Hello,

I followed the 'unrooting' section of: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html

but didnt realize 's-off' was still on ...
I cannot find 'install from .zip from sd card' or anything of the like on the bootloader menu.

Is there a way to do just this now that the rom is back to stock and unrooted (i installed rom manger and super user and both say phone is not rooted)

Thanks.

well you are not unrooted until you get s-on. you are just on a stock rom with a stock recovery. have you tried and restart the unrooting process? you need to do the hex edit PC36IMG file that should turn you s-on and change the hboot so that the stock PC36IMG file will change everything back to stock.

get to the recovery screen and a phone device with the red triangle and exclamation point. I now see the menu (once i figured out to press power and vol up):
Reboot system now
Apply update from sdcard
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition

If i choose 'apply update from sdcard', it says : 'Invalid operation ' success rebooting.

then the phone reboots and starts up normally. Still 's-off' though and unable to choose any particular file.

no you do not have recovery. the red exclamation mark just means that you do not have a custom recovery, but a stock recovery which you do not have access to. the power +vol up gets you into some of the stock recovery menu but most of that will not work for you.

it is a two step process that you will need to do:
#1.get the hex edit PC36IMG file and rename it and move it to the sd card (root, not in any folder) and then go into the bootloader (power+vol down) and let it install the file. this should get you s-on.

#2.get the stock PC36IMG file to be installed by the bootloader using the same process as step#1. just make sure to remove the old file first or you(and the phone) will get mixed which one is which.

This is the PC36IMG_HBOOT file, right?
I tried that and it goes through the process, says success, but always shows as 's-off' at the top.

I'm trying the 'if for some reason you can't get s-on after flashing the hboot 6.17 file then
here is the instructions:'
these instructions, but cannot get to that process to install from the card.

I had run the 'PC36IMG_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint' files as the renamed PC36IMG after doing the first 's-on' process and that seemed to work, but still only 's-off'

Did i totally screw up?

no you are fine. what is your hboot?

ok, so recovery installed, backup running now. When powered back up, I will remove the file and (then continue to 'Unrooting' option B: Step 1 again?)

ok, following these:

EVO_Radio_2.15.00.11.19.zip
1. download the radio file and move it to the sd card.

2. then boot into recovery (power+vol down).

3. select install from sdcard and select the radio file.

4.you will need to flash the s-on tool found here:
unrevoked-forever-son.zip

5.move it to the sd card. (no need to rename it)
6.go to recovery (power+vol down)
7.select flash zip from sdcard then navigate and select the s-on file.

now you should have s-on, proceed to step #2 to get you back to stock

I had to restart after doing the radio flash. Ran the 'unrevoked' file and now it's showing as 'S-ON'

Thank you!!

So is there any other process or check that I need to do to make sure that I'm all back to factory default? (need to go for service)
I've not seen ay sort of post for this info.
Just want to make sure.

well what is your hboot now? if it is 2.18 and you have s-on with a stock recovery(the red exclamation mark) then you are good to go.
