Root Need help with Apex 2.0 RC2

xhanx

Newbie
I have a few questions on the correct way to install the Apex 2.0 RC2

Currently on rooted .595 Will be doing the zip file to upgrade to .596 deodexed.

I tried downloading the Apex file but the link did not work so downloaded via ROM manager.

I planned to use the DX2 bootstrap method to flash the ROM but can't find where the ROM downloaded into thru ROM manager.

1. Is it safe to install the Apex ROM with the ROM manager?
2. Where would the download file be located?
3. Instructions say wipe data/cache if on RC1. I am not on it so, thinking no need to wipe/data?

Want to try the Apex but not sure if this is the right way.

TIA

I think the safest thing to do is download the file directly to the phone and use the Droid2 Bootstrap (or Droid X bootstrap with USB debugging turned off) method to flash the zip file. Also, you'll need to wipe three different places prior to installing: wipe data, wipe cache, wipe Dalvik cache (found under the advanced settings in recovery).

Be sure to backup your applications using Titanium Backup because you will loose all your data and apps when going to Apex 2.0 currently. It is a minor inconvenience if you have the apps backed up. But it is a major PITA if you don't.

just open d2 bootstrapper and hit bootstrap recovery, hit ok
open rom manager
try to download apex rc2 again and it will begin the prompt for install because it will not download again considering its already downloaded, and installing it through rom manager is also an easy way to go, its how i installed mine

Thanks for the quick replies.

Couple more questions if I may.

1. I have just been backing up user apps in TiB. Should I do user apps and system data to restore all settings after upgrade?

2. "just open d2 bootstrapper and hit bootstrap recovery, hit ok
open rom manager" So don't hit reboot recovery and open the rom manager?

TIA

Do NOT restore all system data. Only restore the data for apps that you absolutely need the data for.
If you hit reboot recovery then you will reboot into custom recovery. So just hit the top one then go to ROM manager

which he may have already done, we dont know yet because he hasnt disclosed his system version, i always like to believe our visitors and members have taken all the proper steps to be with the rest of us

and the answer is yes! I am on .12 baseband. Not that I did it on purpose, just follwing instructions from this great forum...:D

Thanks for the heads up guys...

Thanks to all that helped... Everything installed fine without issues.

One thing tho... Is it just me or does the touch screen feedback seem slower with the Apex vs. .596

I seem to have to put more pressure on the screen to move around with the Apex than I remember using just the .596.
