Root Need help with WiFi hotspot/tether

Cheetiah

Lurker
I spent the entire day rooting my phone and trying to set up WiFi hotspot/tethering (which was the primary motivation for rooting my phone). I've tried a variety of ROM's and a couple different builds of the WiFi Tether for Root Users to no avail. I've sifted through tons of information, but much of it is dated and contradicts other articles.

What's the best/current method for setting up a WiFi hotspot from my phone short of paying Sprint an extra $30/month?

HTC Evo 4G LTE
Software version 3.16.651.3
Android 4.1.1
ROM: 3.16.651.3_stock_rooted_deodex_CPTB.zip
moonshine S-OFF
TWRP 2.4.1.0

Welcome to the forums cheetiah!! :)

Wind hit the nail on the head above. :)

There are a few more settings, mms clamping, change the frequency, etc.

Let us know what you try, then we can go from there. :)

Thanks for the thoughts and greeting. Are you both referring to WiFi Tether for Root Users app? I didn't see any related options built into the ROM's I looked at. I'm not using the Sprint Hotspot. (Or at least, I'm trying to avoid having to resort to that.)

Assuming you are referring to WiFi Tether for Root, which version? I can't download it from Google Play. It doesn't even show up when I search from my phone. When I search from my computer, I see "Wireless Tether for Root Users" but no "WiFi Tether for Root Users." When I try to install it, I get "This app is incompatible with all of your devices," and "This item is not available on your carrier."

Can you send me a link for the version you recommend I use? I presume I need to download and install the .apk, right?

I have WiFi Tether version 3.3 beta2-06102013

This is included with Viper4G rom out of the box. Works fine for me, and the rom is pretty nice too. ;)

I have the same version as Granite. It's just called Wifi Tether in my app drawer. It comes with most roms. I've rarely seen a ROM not have it. Pretty much all AOSP ROMs have it. I know Viper and MeanBean come with it for sure. I'm on MeanBean and it works for me flawlessly.
