So, I want to use an available upgrade on my family share to buy another Inc at Best Buy (free), transfer the new Inc to my line, disconnect my current Inc and then connect the dumb phone back onto the line I took the upgrade from. This sounds like a great plan in my head, but I don't know if it's something that can be done?? Is there any reason why I wouldn't be able to do this? There's nothing wrong with my current Inc, my laptop crashed yeaterday (no backup :o) and I want to sell my current Inc to help supplement the cost of a new computer. As long as I have an upgrade I'm willing to use, I'm good to go, correct? Sorry if this is a "wasted thread" or an "obvious answer" I just want to make sure it's possible before I head to Best Buy.

The only thing is that the plan you buy the new droid on will be locked into an internet plan wont it?

It's my understanding that it will have a data plan attached to it until they reactivate the dumb phone back onto the line I upgraded from and transfer it my my line (which already has a data plan) Can anyone confirm that this is correct?

WD, I'm not sure that I completely (!) understand what you're doing - don't know if I have all the 'lines' straight in my head.
It sounds sort of like what my wife and did when we got our DIncs. The folks at the store said they couldn't do what I needed (which I think is close to what you're doing), so initially I put a new DInc on a new line and made 'my' line be a dumb phone. The data plan moved from my line to the new line.
After a couple of days I called customer service and asked them to swap the phones on the two lines. So the dumb phone went to the new line and the DInc (and data plan) back to my line. I'm not quite sure why that all couldn't be done at the store in the first place (lack of imagination?), but it got done the way I wanted it to be eventually.
Does that help?

I think I made my OP harder than it has to be, haha. I want to disconnect my Inc on my main line, use an upgrade on another line that currently has a dumb phone attached to it, connect the Inc, transfer the Inc to my line and reconnect the dumb phone to the line I upgrade from. I don't see why it wouldn't work. It's basically the same thing I did to get my Inc I have now and a lot of other people have done this as well. It's kind of sneaky, so I guess that's why I'm questioning it's validity.

Yeah theyll never do it in the store. We had the same trouble before because I always take everyone else's upgrades and just give my old phones to my parents.

But I thought the data plan would stick on the non-smart phone since you signed for it for 2 years?

Correct you will still be paying for 2 data plans because you signed a contract with a new data plan.

I don't think this is right because I already did this, basically, to buy and activate my Inc. I used a dumb phones upgrade on my family share and had the data and Inc moved to my line and the dumb phone now had a new 2 year contract. Technically, with the dumb phone they can't charge a data plan anyways. I don't think VZW/BB care where the data plan is, as long as it's being paid.

Anyways, I think I just answered my own question, this can be done because I've done it before. I was just worried BB may say something about me wanting to have another Inc on my line when I just got one back in October. For all they know I could have lost it or maybe it was stolen. As long as I disconnect my Inc before I go in and activate my old BB (so a data plan is still present) I don't forsee any problems. If there is then oh well, valiant effort. I will update this thread with my results after I go to BB this weekend.

Sounds to me like it will work fine. As near as I can tell the only downside is that you will have a different phone number on 'your' phone. Though that can be solved by simply forwarding the other line to you (assuming that's an unused line).

Hoto,

Why do you say I'll have a different number? When I did this back in October I was able to keep my number on my line even though I used a different phones upgrade.

Sorry WD, I was confused for a bit - I thought that in the shuffling you were going to end up with 'your' phone on a different line. I just went back and reread what you're doing though and that doesn't seem to be the case. So feel free to ignore my previous post. :)
