Root Need help! ):

Ohkaty

Newbie
Okay so I just rooted my Motorola Triumph and I want to free up some space since it keeps telling me I have internal low storage!

And I did download Titanium and deleted some useless apps, but I don't know what else I can delete? Or how I can free up anymore space?

Also does doing a factory reset mess up the rooting? I heard I can get more space from doing a reset, but not sure.

So any suggestions? I have moved all possible apps onto an SD card. :(

It's log files in the stock ROM that are eating up your space.

Let me find that link concerning those...

oh okay.

but i have no idea how to fix that..
like how to access those files and what to delete and what not to delete ):

Take some time to read thru the tutorials in this forum. U will find instructions on installing a custom recovery and a choice of many roms that will make your triumph experience much more enjoyable. I suggest one of the cm7 roms. This phone has a ton of internal storage and that shouldn't even be an issue. Hope this helps and I never really post on here so I'll take this time to thank all the devs who make this phone worth having! Thank you!

I don't know what a custom ROM does. And I am afraid of doing it wrong. I heard something with alog files, but you have have to dowload an app to delete them, butt how do you know which ones you can delete?

I just typed up a long post on what to do, and it's gone.
I'll try again in a bit.
IN the meantime, get ES File Explorer from the Playstore.

btw, to answer your question...
a factory reset will not unroot your device, but will only be a temporary fix, so don't do that right yet.

In short, you will delete the alog files, mainly alog_events will be the largest.
They will be immediately recreated and start to grow again, so the permanent fix is to remove write permissions while they are still tiny.
simple, right? :D
No really, it is... you'll see.

i know i seem it too ... i seem the tutorial for the alog files fix and seems kinda conplicated for some one not familiar with that since you gotta change permissions and stuff and find the system files seems there is a high risk for accidental delete or changes that can mess things up quickly i think it would be more easy to install a custome ROM and are less changes for a major mistake to be made
also aint ROOT explorer better since ES explorer requires to enable the ROOT setting first i guess you can just show how to enable the ROOT setting on ES

I can't find the alog files... where would they be under?

I don't disagree, but...
I don't intend to try to talk some one into installing a custom ROM if they don't want to, and their problem is fixable without it... even if it IS the best solution (in our opinion).

The solution I propose really is faster, anyway.

Where are the alog files? :( I can't find data directory anywhere

I can't find the alog files... where would they be under?

first, in ES file explorer (yes others will work, but I prefer this and I can give exact instructions using it) hit the menu button and then settings.
scroll to the bottom and hit Root Settings.
Check Root Explorer and Mount System writable.

Next, at the top, click the Favorites (has a star icon) button and select / (the phone icon).

You are now in your root directory.

scroll down to Data and click it.

You are now in /data.

scroll down past the sub-folders to the files... this is where you'll find the alog files.

Long press each file that starts with alog to delete... alternatively, you can hit the multi select button to highlight each file, and them long press one of them to delete them all at once... (a menu pops up where you can select delete).

Exit and then reboot your phone.

Upon reboot, go back to ES file explorer, same directory (/data) and long press each of the newly created alog files, click properties.

You will see a Properties window that shows permissions... click change and un-check the w (this removes write permissions. do this for each of the alog files, and you're done

If you don't remove write permissions on those files, the problem will return. You must change permissions to make a permanent fix... preferably before the files grow too much bigger.

LONG press each file.
When you do that, a list of options pops up. scroll down to the bottom and click Properties.
In the resulting window, click Change and uncheck the w and then hit ok.

Oh, and you're welcome! :D
